i was wondering if i should go for it an try to build a puck my self. i use to solder when i worked at lucent. an ben out of the game for 10 years. worked with optics to. but when it comes to numbers i draw a blank. :) but any ways. im going to try this mod with a 510 connector. if thats what the ego uses. all my cartos i have are for the ego. but i was wondering if it would still work if a had the 510 connector stick out atop the the mod rather then sitting deep inside the mod. an was wondering if you or any one else dable into making a tube mods using D batteries.

Exactly, go for it Mark, just as Stosh says. Soldering is minor and you have doen it before. You don't forget how to solder. Also, I Pucks with a 510 connector all of the time.

Tube Mod... Well since I mainly use NiMH batteries, I would have to use 4 to get 4.8 volts. That would be a pretty large tube mod using 4 D cell batteries,... but you could probably vape a month on them :) I found that 4 AA NiMHs give me over two days worth of vaping and thats with using dual coil tank cartos.

You could try a flashlight body to start with and modify that. Just find one for the amount of batteries you need.

I got my parts! Got a question and an observation. First the observation, prices have gone up since the OP was written, I got out of the store for just under $17. Got the parts as listed too. Wanted AA, but they only had one with a cover so that was a no go.
Anyhow...my question. I'll start by saying I've never done anything like this, and I haven't soddered since my freshman year of high school. I have a 901 pass through that isn't all that safe (it likes to stay on even after I release the button) so I have no trouble parting it. I do have a lot of 510 and eGo stuff available. Can I use the 510 stuff with the parts as listed in the OP, or will the jack only fit 901?

@ Mark, that would work for a 510 connector, but a bit pricey --- Madvapes or Good Prophets have them cheaper.

@ lilith79, the jack will only fit a 901 but you can pick up an adapter with your next juice order to use any connectors 510 or otherwise

The Puck mod is a way of providing cheap safe battery power, you can use whatever connectors suit you and the attys or cartos you have or like best. You can also change the position of the button, led and connector to suit however you like to hold it and vape. Took me a few tries with different button / connector positions to find my favorite  but it's still way cheaper than buy a mod, and there's nothing as satisfying as your first vape on a mod you built yourself!!!

i think im going with a 510 connector an get a 808 adapter. im thinking the new phoenix Bottom Coil will look good on this mod.:) do you no if they have a 510 connector at radio shack. an is it a good idea to have the threads sticking out rather then so deep into the box ?

Radio Shack won't have any e-cig-specific parts like 510 connectors. The dc jack that Puck used just happened to have the same threading as a 901, and required modification to make it into a working connector for that. You can use just about any adapter or connecter that you can manage to solder to. A 510-to-ego adapter would give you the ego threading, too.

Recessing the connector into the box just lowers the overall height of the unit when the atty is connected, and may provide some support to prevent lateral forces from breaking it off of the box in case of poor handling. Many builders put the connector right on top, too, and that may be preferable if you want an eGo connector on it.

Edit: Just in case you haven't found it, there is a site dedicated to this with other good info:

ok one more question before i go all out. my friend just gave me a bunch of odds an ends stuff. an he has two 4AA battery box holders with one only having a on off switch. witch is sweet. now whats the longevity on 3AA, 4AA or 3AAA, 4AAA. im going to get all the parts for the original post. but want to save the 4AA boxes if they last longer but was thinking going with 3AA an using them on there on rather then putting them together. but also might but it together to make a feeder. so many idea floating around in me head. but im going to build original puck first to get the jiffs of building a mod. but dont no any thing on battery life with AA AAA 3 or 4 or even 2 together.

I just got done putting one of these puckin' pucks together, and all I can say is, "Puck Yeah"! Now I know, (switching over from eGo), what all the "box mod" hubbub is all about... Clouds of puckin' vapor, great puckin' flavor, and it only cost me about 15 clams!!! What is there to complain about??? (wait a minute while I take a toot... and another). I can't put this puckin' thing down!!! AND... it's the first time I used a Boge cartomizer. So far, I think I like it better than the SmokTechs that I've tried, but that's puckin' irrelevant. THANK YOU "Mr. Puck"!!. This is EXACTLY what I've imagined GOOD VAPING to be all about. An all-around awesome experience. (Haven't had this much fun with electronic kits in a LONG TIME!)

The half-puck is what I use now, i gave my original puck to my friend who's been vaping with egos for 2 years now, he loves it, and says he won't go back to ego, I truly thank puck, as i did on his site for the great tuitorial and it got me hooked on modding, the half-puck is the same wiring but with only one AA battery box(i used AA for my puck because the store the source didn't have any AAA boxes) and my batteries are 2000mah, it lasts what seems like forever, and 4.8volt vaping is awesome!!!!Thanks again puck!
