Nice!.. That's one large carto on there :).

If the switch is the same type as in the photo, I've never had a bad one. You may want to give the wiring another once over just in case. You can test the switch by putting an volt/ohm meter across it and see if it shorts like it should when pressing the button.

Puck, as I mentioned in another topic, I was looking to find out if I could use non rechargeables in a mod, and you have come up with it. I visit my family out of town, I don't want to be plugging in battery chargers at their house, or as a guest, etc. and if I'm gone 2 weeks, I'd just as soon not have to pack it all up again.

I can see a real application for this, I love it!

I see you found your way over here! The Puck is great. Always good to have one in the glove box for those "oh crap" moments...

I didn't read the whole thing and am sorry if this was brought up to you but they say that rechargeable a explode. What are the chances of that happening?

Zero chance of explosion for NIMH rechargeable. I have been using NIMH AAA batteries for two years in these devices and have had no problems. See the sticky notes in the battery mod forum for advice on L ion batteries. Some earlier posts in this topic address this issue as well.

Howdy Folks,

As some may already know, i did my first Puck about 3 weeks ago, it has been dubbed "The Hydrant" cause how it looks.

It's getting a coat of bright red paint as soon as it stops raining to look even more like a hydrant.

Now, i'm getting ready for the next one, and I'm gonna use these instead of the AAAs,

4.8 Volt NiMH Battery Cell

Anyone used these yet? Any advice you can provide?

Thanks,
Big Mac

I tried those in a box mod. They seem to take forever to charge, and, of course, you can't just snap up replacements locally. They require a special charger which I couldn't find locally, either. If your intent was (like mine) to have something you could obtain spares/replacements for locally, you're better off with the 4xAA's or 4xAAA's.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't find the 4.8 v from these to be as warm as from the AA/AAA's, and they didn't seem to last as long either. Just my 2 cents.

Howdy Ancient,
The first one i built was for the ease of the build and for the reasons you mentioned. On this next mod, since this safe battery is available, thought I would try it. The mod I'm building could use the NiMH or a 18650 since the size is gonna be close. It will offer the use of a safe battery with higher voltage, or a protected 18650 at a lower voltage. Its also something different to try. I bought the charger and 3 of these batts a short while back, before I really had the little knowledge I have now ( the more I learn the more I realize how little I know ) and they are just sitting, so gonna use them for something.

Thanks for the input my friend, appreciate it.

Big Mac
