Did you smoke cigarettes while taking them? What specific medications are you taking? What is the dosage?

Paramedic here, I may have some insight.
Yes I did smoke cigarettes while taking my coumadin. I was at 7 mg of coumadin now I am down to 5mg hoping that will keep my INR in range. I was out of town for a week before the test that was high and didn't eat much. I am using the 50/50 PG/VG. I also take lipator and aspirin and am on morphine for bad back and fibro problems

Hi and welcome to ECF, jonig35!

We're not supposed to give medical advice here on the forum. I suppose it' due to liability issues, and in any case, I'm not a medical professional.

Have you discussed your vaping with your doctor? he/she might need to know about it in case it has any effect on you medication dosage. Just a thought.

@ jonig35: You have to have a certain number of posts to have a banner, but it's not very many. I think it's 15. Anyway, here is a link that shows how to apply one once you have your requisite number of posts:

I am not going to tell you that vaping isnt hurting your overall health. I am for sure telling you that vaping isnt causing any type of medical problems any worse than cigarettes.

You are far better off vaping. Coumadin is a dangerous drug, aspirin along with Coumadin has a synergistic effect ( greater effect than the sum of the two parts ) because Aspirin is a platelet inhibitor. I believe that combo is far worse that vaping. Lipator is is pretty well recieved... I am not even going to discuss the daily use of an opiate or my views on fibromyalgia.

I am not a doctor. I am not licensed to give medical advice. You are doing a good thing by vaping instead of smoking. Vaping still isnt idea, but certainly no worse than the combination of drugs your doctor has prescribed.

How do you feel? Have you had any positive effects since you quit smoking? Are you fully quit? and for how long.

I feel great, can smell so much more than I used to when smoking and can taste things so much better, I have not had a cigarette since I bought my ego twist and the e-liquid, so I have been off cigarettes completely for this whole time about 2 months, I can breathe so much better and am not moody like I was when I smoked,

Keep up the good work with the vaping. As your overall heath improves you may find that your mood will improve even more and you may be able to come to terms with the Fibromyalgia more effectivley. You feel better because you are better.

to ecf jonig35. Nice to meet you and glad that you are here. Definitely best to discuss this with your doctor but if it makes you feel any better. . . I have been reading ecf for quite a while and I have never read where someone had this particular concern. I still believe vaping to be a healthier alternative to smoking and because the water vapor is absorbed differently, maybe it is not the vaping. Good luck to you and please let us know what you find out because it could help others here. Have fun.

I too am on Coumadin. I have had some very high INRs lately, however, I attributed this to the addition of over the counter medication for GERD. I am also a registered nurse. I never considered the ingredients in e juice having any effect but it's as good a guess as any. But, I also know that no matter what you do, even if it's eating spinach, if you do the inr testing and regulation of Coumadin while doing this and you don't change your spinach intake, you can be successfully regulated. Unfortunately there is probably no data out there about the interactions but let your doctor know.

I will be testing again Tuesday. I am hoping it hasn't changed or if it has hopefully not much. Last test was at 2.7. After I had been out of town that week the end of the year I wasn't eating much and it was 8. Now it's been back down for over a week so I hope the dosage keeps it the same as last test. But I will talk to my doctor again about it. I know when I said I was vaping he did say he preferred I do this over cigarettes. I will keep y'all updated. How long have you been vaping? It may be the over the counter meds and not the vaping for you if mine stays at the level it was last test

I do know I had cubital tunnel surgery back in June and I was allowed to use one of those e-cigs that look like real cigarettes while in the hospital and it did not mess with my INR. It is normally an outpatient surgery but due to the blood thinners and having to be off them for the surgery I had to be in a week I was on heparin and it took a while for my INR to get back up in range for me to be able to come home. So if those didn't raise my INR I would think it was my not eating right that caused the thinning. I didn't vape much that week just when I really needed a nicotine fix as I was with my grand babies. And I used to smoke 1-2 packs a day.

Good news!! Vaping is not what caused my high reading. Doctor said it was due to cholesterol meds. I had been on them then when they were due the cardiologist didn't call them in and I forgot about them so I was off them for about 3 months then the middle of December the doctor put me back on them and that is what caused the rise in my INR. PHEW!So glad it's nothing to do with the vaping!!!
