Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for your support so far.

The first thread that I started in here was because I had a weird dizziness and vertigo, and I was looking for a reason, to see if it has anything to do with vaping.

Eventually, after several tests done by my GP, they have finally found a track; my blood iron (ferritin) has been high for more than two months now. The normal range is 400, where mine was floating from 530 to 430. Given that I have been diagnosed with fatty liver for around 6 years now, one concern is that if the high ferritin is caused by a damaged liver (unlikely, because surprisingly now after few years other enzymes of my liver seem fine, but iron), or has another reason (I am setting up an appoint to donate some blood if I can pass their test and be eligible to do so - that helps lowering the iron).

A few tests are being done on me to find the reason, will be out in a few days; but my concern which requires your help guys:

All the dizziness and vertigo started around 2 weeks after I started vaping. I wasn't on vaping all the time, and had occasional analogs here and there. In the past few days I am feeling waaaay tired, some times I am just lying down on my bed for four hours.

Is there any relation between vaping and high blood iron (ferritin)? Has anyone else experienced his? or it's just pure coincidence? I have done some research, and didn't find much.

Any idea is appreciate guys.

Regards.

The way we absorb iron I don't think that there would be any correlation, in fact if there was doctors would probably be prescribing a vape along with iron supplements because it's actually pretty tough to absorb and the only reliable way to do so for people with anemia is via shots.

Iron is one of those things we absorb, do you eat a lot of red meat, beans, seafood and greens like a high protein diet would offer?

Also. What nicotine levels, amount of liquid a day and device are you using? This could help a lot

A high ferritin is very hard to tie to vaping. Why you have your other symptoms like fatigue are occurring is also impossible to tell whether its vape related or not. However, I've not read of vaping causing those sorts of issues like a high ferritin so best to ask your doctor's opinion.

My niece's husband has this, and he's never smoked nor vaped. One thing I might add is be sure you aren't eating foods that have been cooked in cast iron, as some of the iron leaches into the food. The condition is primarily genetic, and you may have had it all your life, but it's just now showing up.

Not a doctor and I don't even try to pretend to be one on the internet but I'd go with coincidence. If this were my experience I would continue to vape instead of smoke, as long as my doctor was on board (my Dr is a huge harm reduction believer though, so he'll support anything I do to to keep from smoking).

I was diagnosed with fatty liver a couple yrs ago and my iron was high. They included it in my frequent lab tests and were going to send me in to the hospital to remove some, but it went back down and has stayed there since.

No changes in my vaping habits and it came and went about the middle of my vaping career (?).

Love my red meats and I thought we had an iron fry pan but apparently it is carbon steel. Still, I am on my best behavior when together with wife in the kitchen :).

Were you diagnosed with hemochromatosis? If I'm not mistaken, that's hereditary :)

Your coils aren't rusty are they? J/K

Welcome to ECF, hope you get it all worked out.

Yes in fact, my diet was highly based on vegetables, beans, red meat and seafood because I was trying to lose fat by avoiding carbohydrates (rice, bread, pasta, etc.) to help my fatty liver. So I guess I will need to come up with a new diet.

I am currently on 18mg; the lowest that seems to help me stay away from 1pack a day.

Thanks r77r7r, that was a relief.

I have been tested for this, waiting for the results right now, will update you guys. I am sure my parents do not have this, but still, apparently it is possible that both of them are carriers and I would get it!

There's two types of carbs, fast carbs that get turned into sugar quickly which makes you fat :p Then there are slow carbs that don't convert so fast and help to fill you up.. I'd suggest swapping out some of your higher in iron foods with slow carbs...

    Just google "Slow carbs List"

Actually maybe not , i have found many doctors these days have no clue about vaping and automatically think it's still nicotine so it must not be good .

Thats been my experience with them but i'm sure some are knowledgeable about it, just not mine but i live "Murphy's Law" so them not having a clue fits .

Giving blood and cutting out red meat will help with the hi iron but you need to do both.
At least until your iron level drops. ( condensed from reading I've done, I've never had high iron levels:?: so take it for what its worth:2cool:)
Fatty liver I have had and the simple answer is take lots of choline bitartrate or eat lots of eggs! I went the choline route and got rid of my fatty liver in less than a month, checked by ultrasound, so it can be done but no doctor told me how or why:cry: so take it for what its worth:danger:

    Hi Lowjumper,

A bit off the topic, can you please elaborate a bit more about this? You took the supplements? Was it prescribed by your Dr, and did it eventually solved your fatty liver problem?

    Thanks.

Dizziness and vertigo are also a side effects of smoking cigarettes. Sounds like a classic case of tobacco withdrawal symptoms.
