Did you try smoking a cigarette after quitting?

Thanks everyone for the input, it's very interesting to read other people's experiences.

As NCC said, I think it's more the idea of the "forbidden fruit" that makes me want to try one, almost as if I'm 14 years old again and that was the reason I started smoking in the first place :)

The cravings are very short lived so hopefully they'll go away entirely eventually.

....It might be because I quit smoking without the intention to quit smoking, so maybe I feel like I didn't get closure, if that makes any sense :)

I quit unintentionally as well but continued to smoke cigarettes for the 1st week with my PV. I ended up tossing them out. Something about vaping makes cigarettes taste horrid. I could not get the taste of the analog out of my mouth and no amount of tooth and tongue brushing worked. I am now 4 months quit and the memory from that first week continues to stay with me and keep me from *really* wanting one. While I think that I would never smoke again, I also understand I must tread carefully and not underestimate the power of a 20 year addiction.

It's been a month and a half now since I quit smoking and I haven't smoked a single analog since. For some reason these past few days I've had moments during the day that it's all I can think about, trying to remember what it tastes and feels like. It's not so much that I have an urge to smoke a cigarette, my Reo keeps me very satisfied, I guess it's more out of curiosity.

My question is: is it a good idea to try smoking a cigarette just to be reminded of how disgusting it is, or would I be playing with fire?

I ain't the ecig police. You have my permission to smoke and vape at the same time regardless of how much you smoke :)

Agreed! If you don't want to give in, then don't give in. If your curiosity is killing you, have a puff. IMO, what it really boils down to is how much your time completely smoke free means to you. I appreciate any time I can be smoke free for a while, but I don't feel guilty when I do have an analog or two here or there. If your goal is to quit completely and forever and you really want to go the distance without an analog, try not to cave. If you're like me and just happy to be mostly away from analogs but are really dying for one then there's nothing wrong with that. I was a 2-3pad smoker and because of my PV I have one or two a week when I'm going berserk or if I'm having a really off day with my e-cig. I've heard so many stories about people who quit cold turkey, or with patches, gum etc. and as soon as they pick up a cigarette they're back to square one. Everyone is different, but having one or two analogs hasn't thus far made me go right back where I came from... and that's entirely thanks to my PV.

I still smoke 2-3 a day. Or maybe a cigar instead. It's not always for the same reasons.

Sometimes I just "miss" the feel of a cigarette in my fingers. Sometimes I just want to visit my old friend "Marlboro", it's a comfort thing I think. I've always liked sitting and smoking a good cigar, I really doubt this will ever change, and it's never been more than a once or twice a month indulgence anyway.

I can't seem to kick the 1st one in the morning. Not sure I want to either. I can do it... I vaped instead for 5 mornings straight just to see if I could, no withdrawal at all, no problems really, I just like to have one then.

2 or 3 cigarettes a day down from 2 packs though... I can live with that. Of course it's not healthy, we all know that. Neither is drinking, and I'm surely not giving that up. It's nice not to "need" them anymore, and to be able to easily achieve moderation. My breathing has improved, my stamina is climbing, things taste better, and I'm smelling all sorts of different things. This seems to be working fine for me :)

I carried about a half a pack around in my shirt pocket for the first two weeks. For some reason I kinda felt panicky without them there. I ended up making a box mod that I now carry in that pocket, lol. In my truck console I have an analog in a glass tube just in case. Just knowing it's there seems to put my mind at ease. Give yourself the option and you're mind will probably quit screwing with you.

You know I've been looking for cheap cigars that are good and I won't want to inhale. So far I like the cheap Winchester filtered cigars. Pack of 20 for less than the price of a pack of cigs (Kroger).

Let me know what cigar you end up choosing...

Those things are evil, and if i allow myself even one little puff it could take over my brain lol... I don't trust myself or them and as long as i have my pv i am great. Have not touched a cigarette since oct 09, i can be around smokers and not be tempted even though a freshly lit cigarette still smells good to me. For me to smoke one would be a big mistake at this point..

There is really getting to be very few places to smoke. I will never smoke in my car again. Seems I'm limited to home and outdoors, and I'm a geek who likes to stay inside watching horror flicks (not as bad as sci-fi nuts, I guess).

Some of you people have a husband or wife who give you more of what you really need when you don't smoke at home. I'm single and no one tells me I can't smoke at home and I don't get much of the good stuff anyway. Maybe I'll find a third wife who won't give me sugar if I smoke at home.

One has to REALLY want to quit, you know what I mean?

I live in south Florida, so I generally smoke Cubans ;)

You have to spoil yourself once in a while. There's nothing wrong with a $5-$8 cigar once a month. Try it you might like it.

It's been almost a year since I put down the cigs totally for vaping. I've smoked three cigs just out of curiosity. I was a real hardcore smoker. I loved smoking as well as all the other tobacco products. The main reason I quit was for health reasons. As much as I smoked and used other tobacco products, I was really pushing my luck and I could tell my ticket was going to get punched if I didn't change my ways.

The smell and mess didn't bother me terribly when I was a smoker, though I appreciate being free of it now. For me, the impression I get with smoking has not changed much over the course of my vaping experience. I tried one at 6 weeks, then again another 6 weeks later, then about 8 months. Got a similar experience each time. Certainly vapors taste much better than smoke, but the smoke didn't tast all that horrible to me. I can still taste the elements of tobacco I like a lot. I'm just a real tobacco lover. Even after a year, tobacco flavored juices are still my favorite. I'd say the most significant thing I prefer about vaping is the smell. Cigarettes smell very intense to me now, but not totally in an unpleasant way.

I lit up 3 times, but I only smoked 1 whole cigarette about a month after I started vaping. It's weird that the last one was the whole one that I smoked, but that was also when I realized I was having withdrawals. I was under the impression that if I had nicotine I wouldn't actually be in withdrawal. I had a bad morning and went slick off and turned in to a crazy woman. Smoked that last cigarette, calmed me right down, and haven't had one since. I still have odd days when I want one but it's so much better now. I've been tempted to smoke one just to see if it makes me want more, but I think it would just taste too bad.

Smoking is such a headtrick. Yeah when you vape, they taste disgusting, but trust me once you quit vaping too and then after a few days of not vaping the cigs taste good again. They only don't taste good when you are vaping as you have your nic fix, so your brain doesn't need to fool you into liking the taste of burning leaves. Take from that what you will.

But I must admit when I was vaping, as long as I wasn't having a drink, a mere 6 - 8 draws on the pv with a nice juice would completely make me not want a cig again and not only that, it made me glad I didn't. But I was only a light smoker (as just a few a day would literally make my bp rise from 129 to 135) anyhow.

I still get the urge every now and then to have a cig, but I know that as soon as I have one, I will be smoking again. When I got back into vaping this 2nd time around, I had half a carton of smokes just sitting around and I would have 2 a day. They tasted terrible, but I could not see wasting the money. When I finally got down to the final unopened pack, I just handed it to one of my smoking co-workers and let him finish them.

I was stuck with analogs for 3 days recently because I ran out of juice. Limited options in Belize to restock so a special thanks to Johnny at Ecigg for the bailout with fast shipping. Couldn't wait to get back to vaping again!

That is great to hear. At least you are no longer puffing on analogs now. :)
