my IPro melted 2 clearomizers ... once while it was sitting on the desk, I was focused typing until I smelled juice ... the 2nd time it heated up while I was holding it in my hand, resting on my knee while focused on another task

in the first instance I had to grab a paper towel and hold the IPro to unscrew the bottom cap ... in the 2nd instance I was able to unscrew the bottom cap immediately to turn off ... thank goodness for that quick on/off feature

in both cases I was using a Visions clearomizer, 2.8-3.0 ohm ... in both cases the IPro was set to approximately 4.5 volts ... in both cases the IPro fired randomly ... the button would not turn it off ... this behavior was repeated numerous times in tests

I have used these clearomizers for months, on other pvs and almost exclusively on the IPro, since I purchased the IPro in December ... in fact, I had used the very same clearo for a full week leading up to the first incident ... in the 2nd incident I used the same type, same ohm clearo that had been previously used, cleaned and used again for several days, successfully, before the 2nd incident

initially, I had no desire to post this here on the forum ... I've previously posted my frustration over my IPro failing in less than 30 days use, and I was not shy about pointing out that others have had the same symptoms and issues with their brand new IPros ... I didn't want this to be another angry post or look like I was busting Mikes ... over a possible bad batch of pcbs, over which he has no control, he doesn't make them, I know that ... I had a new, replaced pcb installed in the IPro when these overheating issues happened and the correct notcigs 14430 batteries installed

Feb 6, I posted a question here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/notcigs/266030-question-ipro-owner.html

no one answered, because it's a tough question ... Mike had already mentioned that there have been recent problems with the IPro pcbs ... my question was, are we going to continue to have these same problems if all you do is replace with another pcb from the same batch ? ... and you all let it die and bury itself in the forum, still unanswered ... this is why I had no desire to post again

in fact, I wrote that exact thing to Terri Bonnema, as she was my only point of contact (email) at the time ... I sent her 2 emails on Thurs, Feb 9 ... she promised to have someone from tech support contact me ...turns out she was on vacation but did forward my email via IPhone ... after hearing from no one, I emailed Terri again on Mon Feb 13 ... Terri emailed me back on Tues Feb 14, promising someone would contact me that day ... I was emailed by Mike Mowery that Tues, with basic things to check which I had already done, I emailed that I had previously double checked all his questions and I was shipping it back, Weds Feb 15 ... I have not heard from anyone since

I suspect the new feature of Tech Support was due in part to my emails to Terri ... that is not her job, esp when on vacation

after the first incident, I changed batteries, fresh off the charger and metered them, 4.1v off the charger ... I have 3 sets of batteries, all bought from notcigs, and charged on the TR-001 charger from notcigs ... I metered each set of batteries before using them fresh off the charger ... the 2nd overheating incident happened with a different set of batteries ... I know this because my batteries are matched and marked as sets ... there was no confusing battery sets A,B,and C

I also metered the batteries after the first incident, once I removed them ... the batteries metered at 3.8, nothing unusual ... I metered the batteries after the 2nd incident, 3.9, again nothing unusual ... of course, I waited till they cooled down, perhaps that accounts for the normal v reading ?

I purchased the IPro due to the protection circuitry ... I was told the 14430 batts aren't protected but not to worry, the IPro would protect the batteries from going wonky ... so what happened ? ... why didn't the circuitry work as advertised ? ... there was an obvious short, but it did happen twice ... and the IPro turning on by itself and not turning off was repeated numerous times in the tests I did before I shipped it back

I would prefer that no one respond to this thread except BuzzKill

please start another thread if you feel the need to question me ... everything I've stated here is fact

I can post pictures or I can send the melted clearos back to notcigs

in light of the recent battery/mod explosion here in Florida, I am more than concerned, thus my post

OK this is a sticking or juice laden switch , nothing shorted out to the point of a battery failure ! , the switch if it gets juice inside it can stick on even though it has released , this is always caused buy juice getting into them . In this case I believe that is what has happened , In NO way was this a Battery CASE that could cause and failure of the batteries .

When we have seen this happen in the past it was 95% of the time a juice issues , it is a well known fact that the clearomisers have leaking issues , So I do not know if one leaked bad into the unit or not , in the past the juice was not conductive but now it is ???? totally lost on this one , whatever is being put in the juice now it made it conductive.

Anyhow to sum it all up we did just change over the tech support aspect and I apologize for it screwing up on you , we are taking steps to fix this issue now . as far as it sticking again , we would have to take a close look at it to determine the failure in this unit.

I am sorry I do not recall seeing that other post you made ! , maybe I was out of town at the time ??

OK, that could be the cause ... I did use the very same clearo without leaking for at least a week or longer ... still, I agree it could have leaked ... but I was very vigilant about checking for and cleaning fluid out of the top cap, after my first repair and replacement ... cleaning the top was the very first thing I did

I looked in the tube, did not see any drops of liquid or any juice slime on the walls or near the button ... I rolled up a soft tissue and wiped out the tube and did not see any juice residue on the tissue ... not saying it wasn't there, but I did this almost every time it mis-fired and saw no juice

I have read about using a washer under the screw, can your tech people please add that if it will help ? ... would replacing the rounded screw with a flat head make it easier to clean ? ... if so, can you please replace that too ?

I would be glad to know, absolutely, that liquid is the sole reason for these issues, as of right now, I'm not too trustiing of the protection ... I only used store bought juice, no diy, from reputable vendors, CC and AVE, iirc ... I can't imagine what juice could have been conductive ?

also, I specifically did this test : used it, made sure I had a red led, put it down on its side, and within mins I had a blue led and power was on ... I do know for a fact, it did fire on its own

thanks for your reply ... any comment on my other question/post re: the pcbs ?

FWIW, and in light of the recent battery bomb post in the General Forum, thought I'd point out the the 14430 batteries from Notcigs are indeed protected in addition to the protection circuitry.

BuzzKill, I don't know ? ... I did ship it in, your shop should have it by now ... I haven't heard from anyone but didn't expect to until it is repaired and shipped back ... I will email Mike M. and ask him, since he was my last contact ... thanks for following up

No problem Bob , we get them analyze the problem then fix them and send a notice of shipping after it is fixed.
MM is the tech support guy .
