He was referring to the definition in terms of how to regulate it, not his own understanding of it. They both atomize a substance so they're similar in terms of the delivery system. I think the line is going be to drawn at any atomized substance containing nicotine.
It will have to be more idiot friendly if its seriously going to catch on with the masses. I didn't really want a new full time hobby, just a way to kick a dangerous habit, but now I have a specialised tool kit and a ton of spare parts, batteries and chargers that I daren't leave home without. It's not how it should be, it has a long way to go.
In my opinion the future will be completely wick- and coil-less.
The next generation will use miniature piezo-ultrasonic-atomizers
Possible Pro-Arguments:
- far more durable
- no burning taste
- 100% maintenance free, thus ideal for beginners
- and most important: they are also able to atomize water-based solutions, therefore no VG/PG-based e-juice is necessary
Here is an example:
CTP DUMAG: Ultrasonic Atomization
Solar Powered, with wifi connection batteries, which coverts broad band into trickle charge signal, when not in the sun. So when at rest, it piggy backs the modulating broadband signal, and surfs the data wave that accompanies the signal, generating power.
Vapers discover by sealing used spent radioactive waste from the Nuclear power, in Titanium, converts the 1/2 life into a safe battery that lasts 10-20years, converting it into a totally inert state. When recycled back into the earth, promotes rejuvenation of previously unfertile soils. Making nuclear reactors totally safe. Power is now free. Humanity was restored by the Power of the Vape.
Also a vaper thought, hmm, hmm, what would happen if I took this inert material and turned it into wire. Finally a glass like coil filament that would hold ohms set, would last till you got bored. Impervious to resistance change. Subatomic-Vaping became the latest got to have mods.
Plumes of vape was discovered actually promoted the re-ionization of the atmosphere. Previously tagged "Cloud Chasers" of vaping, are now revered as Saviors of man kind. Once the tax break Vaper incentive was initiated, Cost of vaping gear became deductible, and were given the Vape Break credit too. The atmosphere finally is restored to Eden like properties. The Vaoe Age had begun. Wars ceased and the fight on crime was won.

I'm a strong believer of e-Cig.
It'll oneday (in 5-10 years?) replace the conventional smoking all together.
There are some 50 million people smoke in the USA.
However, even though this cigar like vaporizer is strong in this early market,
I don't see everybody sticking a big awkward device to their mouth.
The thin cigarette like e-cig is too limited in battery life and cartridge.
So, what would the future common e-cig be like?
Anyone?
Happy vaping
EXACTLY what I wanted to say about regulations. The smokers and vapers need to get out in front on regulations and not wait for stuff to happen and end up with people who are clueless coming up with the regulations. When they're clueless they'll use a chainsaw to get the job done for sure when all that was really needed was a scapel.TL/DR: R&D $ = crazy new tech. I am a happy non-smoker. Legislation coming, be proactive and make the narrative about vaping positive.
It is amazing to me that electronic cigs and/or nicotine delivery systems have come so far without regulation or oversight from at the state or federal level. I am not saying I want it to happen, I am just surprised the government has not jumped on it as a possible revenue stream with how quickly the market has expanded.
As for the future of vaping, I see larger companies becoming involved as they realize the market holds an amazing amount of money. The upside is innovation through research and design, the downside is more regulation through the courts (patents etc.) and legislation. I think the batteries and tech we use today will seem like dinosaurs in less than 5 years. I look back to my old batteries from my Mikita 9.6v drill and cringe at the thought of carrying around something so heavy and awkward that held a charge for such a short time. Flavors and nicotine delivery is an area I cannot imagine. Piezo ultrasound was mentioned above and would be great. The essence of what we use now is a heater coil that fires quickly and vaporizes a small amount of liquid. It is really simple and imagine if a company like Pfizer tossed 1% of it's research money at finding something that could bring them into the market. In 2010 they spent close to $10,000,000,000 in R&D. Pfizer is a giant and may not have any aspirations to be a leader in eCig tech, but there are many other companies that may want to capitalize on a market that has seen 4 digit growth each year for the last 5 years(+/-).
I am just a noob who is grateful for the 19 days away from smoking analogs. I tried for 20 years to kick the habit. Patches, gum, chewing cigars, and was about to give in and go the Chantix route. I knew the risks and watched a friend become a very different person after using it. I have a hard time believing it is still on the market, but I was close to giving it a go to end my reliance on the smokes. I tried the eGo and mini Protank route, and while it helped curb my nic cravings I could not quit the smokes. I read and talked to many former smokers in the B&M shops as to how they changed and Mod + Dripper kept coming up. I finally had enough on one Sunday after trotting up some stairs and being winded. I bought a K101 and Octopus. My first (shop made) coil only lasted 45 minutes before I decided it was crap and reworked another to get me what I wanted. That was day one. The intervening days have brought a Chi and IGO-W, Sony batteries, 200' of A1, switch to OG cotton, waiting on a KFL+, and ordering a genesis style beginners atty today. Like I said, there's money in this business.
I am a firm believer of eCigs ability to help move people away from analogs. I think all of the stakeholders involved in vaping need to be proactive about legislation and push for what they want. It is going to happen so we need to move it forward with a specific context. It really doesn't matter what party you align yourself with to see how inept our lawmakers are in DC. If we allow them to move forward at will we risk a great deal. Sorry about the rant.
I mentioned a while back what i'd like to see the industry produce and i'll share this with you today. I imagined a device for home use. Much bigger tank for a start, something that holds say 20ml or something. Then the device would have to have several coils, for maximum vapour production. So there would be no need for building , rebuilding etc. So imagine 5 coils like you'd find in a protank arranged in a circle at the base of a 20ml glass tank. The whole thing would definitely have to be connected to the mains via a transformer. So that's it. Not being portable this device would be specifically designed for use in the home. Think about it this way, because of the stigma connected to "ecigs", that being their design being loosely based around tobacco products, the only products being made by the industry are "mobile/pocket devices". Really the industry should have moved on from this and innovated a device that actually works without the user having to tinker around with it just to make it work the way they want it to. I think this type of device is what's missing and there is too much focus on these small pocket devices.
So what it comes down to, at the moment, is a serious lack of imagination by the industry at large.
something like.......
that?
my search for piezo ultrasonic turns up stuff on root canals and dentistry. Whats this piezo ultrasonic atomiser you are talking about?
i dont get the last part; i vape water sometimes; doesnt taste good; not very foggy; but it can be done.
I'm not sure ultrasonic is the way to go if you want maintenance free, but they (ultrasonic foggers) do tend to last a good while eventually needing a replacement disk but otherwise sure why not.
May I suggest,
Instant heat on the draw.
The ability to adjust ohms (coil length or number of coils to be used) to match liquid or battery properties.
Nicotine per hour/day/whatever warning/limiter (similar to puff count but different).
So long as someone knows how to build a vaporizer, vaping will continue. Its not that complicated.

Nicotine?
That's yet another post mentioning nicotine.
Nicotine is about the past. The FUTURE of e-cig is diversified beyond nicotine.
I'm treading lightly here; it could be any property I suppose. My personal desire would be knowing nicotine, someone else may want to know caffine, or total sugars if they are diabetic, or a doctor may proscribe the addition of any of a number of vapeable medications and require a use per day/hour/minute tracking ability. Incorporating an alarm if one is outside of a given range would be an obvious functionality with this type of use. For meds I would see some form or user lockout to the adjustable nature of the device.
First of all for medicinal use a lot of the variable nature of our current devices would need to be doctor controllable, medication X needs to be heated through to XXX.XX°C+/-X.X°C without exceeding a set temperature at any point (coil contact temperature), to remain effective. This would require liquid temperature monitoring and coil temperature monitoring.
Some meds may be light sensitive and require opaque containers.
As far as the common user goes, the more options you give a person the more they will screw things up, my friend who introduced me to vaping thinks my MVP is too much (she just wants to vape).
When we step away from or expertise whatever it may be we tend to see that the common person using our tools isn't all that interested in how they work, or what they can do, they just want the thing to do what they imagine it should.
An ex-smoker wants an e-cigarette to be a safer alternative or a route to quitting.
I'm not sure how many people may have started out vaping without smoking first, but I'm thinking the number is few; but one that will grow similarly to how smokers children are more likely to become smokers themselves.
