Radio Shack Puck Inspired Variable Voltage 4AA Box Mod - Easy and Cheap

I'm showing an unmodified battery holder from Radio Shack next to the completed box mod.

The larger terminal on the left is negative. That's where you solder the black wire from the pass-through.

The smaller terminal on the right is positive. That's where the red wire from the pass-through is soldered.

I can't show you the wires from the Fasttech pass-through, because I don't have another one. If you build it, you will need to take a single edge razor blade and open up the main cable to expose the wires and cut them short for soldering. The beautiful thing with this mod is that you only have to solder two wires. Very easy!

Good luck! A very satisfying build.

I was before I saw this thread thinking of doing a home build as FT put up all sorts of goodies like USB charging boards, battery holders and all sorts of interesting premade modules for Ard stuff, I was working on modding a crash helmet with an automatic kind of feed pipe but ended up ruining a crash helmet when a battery shorted due to the damp UK weather lol

Exactly what I was thinkin'...

I'm actually thinking about using some heat shrink tubing on each battery to hide the obvious. It's pretty tight already, so this might not be a valid approach. The other thing I'm thinking is to simply remove the existing plastic wrap around each battery and expose the metal.

yeah, thats a bad idea....

if you want the look, get clear battery shrink....

the outside metal skin of the battery cell is the negative, you don't want to short out the batteries with tools or loose change.
