So I smoked cigarettes for 18 years, started vaping for 6 months, went back to analogs, and now vaping again. I prefer mouth to lung, however I bought a mod and subtank so I was straight lung inhaling for a while. It wasn't satisfying me so I went back to my Nautilus using 12mg juice. For the last few weeks I've been getting strange feelings in my throat, chest, and back. The back is the worst. After vaping I would get these dull aches in my upper back right side that would travel to my side by my ribs, then to lower back. Sometimes it feels like a sharp burning sensation, sometimes a dull ache. It's really starting to scare me because I never felt anything like this in my 18 years of smoking cigarettes. Sometimes a mild throbbing pain in my throat and chest as well. Something is telling me that this "vaping" frenzy ain't all it's cracked out to be. I'm going to quit vaping all together. I read on the forum while searching for similar experiences that this guy ended up getting thyroid cancer from vaping. Has anybody here experienced these strange tingly dull ache's and burning sensations in their back? I've also noticed a slight pain on a full inhale but that's very rare. If vaping is so much healthier than smoking, then how come I never had anything like this when smoking my whole life? .... vaping, I'm done with this crap... My lungs feel heavy, achey, and I'm getting strange dull pains. I'm going to quit and see if this gets better. Sucks because I really loved it, maybe I over did it...

Everything you describe could be attributed to Muscular aches. Those could be brought on by a number of things up to and including aging.

Perhaps to much Vaping is irritating your throat(high nic or pg levels) and over vaping may be causing some Lung stress, but again, that is on the user, not the act.

Every time I drink to Excess, I fall down...... is it the Alcohol or my abuse there of? o_O(by the way, I stopped drinking ages ago)

If you Suspect Vaping, you should NOT be posting about your suspicions and thinking about any Future action. You should STOP and see if, with no other life changes, the problem subsides.

AND............................. SEE A DOCTOR!

thyroid cancer from vaping

READ:
The question of other or more esoteric cancers has not yet been addressed, and cannot be until about a 30 year+ data resource is available; so it requires another 20 years before this can be answered honestly. At present it does not seem as if any disease vectors at all are visible.

Can vaping cause cancer? - Quora

While it is Highly likely many Long time Ex-Smoker Vapers will eventually develop some type of Cancer, Odds are it will have come from Decades of Smoking.

Those claiming, with -0- Medical Backing, to have Developed Cancer from Short term Vaping are very likely in Denial.

Am I saying Vaping is 100% safe. No. however non-professional Diagnostics are highly suspect.

I've heard people describe similar feelings from a VG sensitivity, and some of them said they'd found a level, for instance 70% VG or less, at which vaping was fine, but above that, they'd have that heavy lung feeling, or difficulty breathing...

Just one of a million possibilities, but you might try different blends to see if it matters.

Most likely scenario here is you just weren't used to inhaling the amount of vapor the subtank produces. Even the nautilus pumps out more physical vapor than a cigarette does smoke. And if you're going straight to lung you probably just stressed out the muscles around your lungs. I've had some bad aches the first week or so when I started using subtanks on top of my nautilus'. I still get them occasionally if I'm hitting it super hard.
But any abnormal symptom that lasts more than 2 weeks should be investigated by a doctor however, especially if you're worried about it. Chest pains are actually considered a medical emergency even though they are rarely symptoms of something serious. Meaning... 100 people present with chest pains, probably one is actually having a heart attack or something. But doesn't mean you shouldn't play it safe.

you could be detoxing from the ciggies.... that in itself can create aches and pains... I vaped and smoked for several months but once I got away from the ciggies completely, then the detox went into full effect... developed muscle cramps, broke out in a serious rash on my back, coughed up all sorts of crud....
I seriously wouldnt doubt that the ciggie companies put all sorts of items in the tobacco to keep the symptoms and maladies to a minimum that can be caused by smoking...

I had some of the symptoms you described when first starting vaping.
Found that high VG and certain flavours were the culprits.

Simply moved to high PG liquids and do not vape licorices or cinnamon now. After 40 years smoking I developed emphysema.
Was diagnosed after starting to vape. One can't walk away from a lifetime of smoking with no ill-effects. For me to put my diagnosis on the vape would be foolish.

Do I still have issues sub-ohming and vaping too much?
SURE I DO. But it is because of my damaged lungs and ME overdoing it. NOT the tech itself.
IMO. Cheers.

I haven't vaped in 12 hours so far. Last night I vaped in the car ride home from work and that was it. Woke up this morning, had my coffee and NO vape or cigs, and I feel much better. No strange pulses and twiches in my lungs. No dull ache in my back, ribs, or chest. No strange tingles in my throat. No burning sensation in my lungs. It's obviously attributed to vaping!

The doctor visit is the best advice here.

I get exactly the same feeling when I use 12mg juice. I don't know why but I'd guess to much damage from decades of smoking for high nic juice. Like you I don't like the feeling so I very rarely vape high nic juice and never for more then a very short time. Hand in hand with high nic is often PG which I consider to be very bad for me so I avoid it as much as possible.

High VG juice gives me a heavy feeling that I also hate. Its different then the above feeling, more of a shortness of breath then any pain. I've settled at 70% VG. Less then 70% VG and my lungs are on fire, more and I'm back at the heavy feeling.

A nice smooth low nic 70% VG is my sweet spot. 6MG in my case but at very low wattages, say 30-50. 6mg over 50w cause some lung burning feeling, my guess being the higher dose of PG. Lower nic the 6 causes me to use more juice which brings up the heavy lung thing.

So see your doctor and if all is well you may have to look into finding a vaping style that works for you. These days many ways to vape exist and not all of them are a good match for everyone. 18 years of smoking put you in the 30-35 range so you should have many good years in you. Quitting everything would be best and staying smoking worst. If I'm right about your age you are about 10 years from when long term smoking starts to get real fun so trust me if you can avoid those years you'll be happy.

What do you mean 10 years from long term smoking? And fun? I'm 35 years old by the way.

Yea my goal is to stop everything, but knowing that cigs do not give these bad physical responses, make me want to buy a pack but I know that would just be stupid. I don't get satisfaction from sub ohming, and hitting 6mg straight to the lung like a {moderated} isn't my idea of satisfying my cigarette cravings. Putting 6mg in a Nautilus doesn't satisfy either. It's too weak of a hit, absolutely no throat hit and feels like air.

What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know, it's what we know for sure that just ain't so

Be safe

There are several symptoms your referring to, are they ALL vape related ?
Self diagnosis is not the answer, I see two specialist every 6 months for check up's religiously
Have you even had an annual checkup ? what if it's something major not even related to vaping like tar /
( plaque ) buildup causing blockage in your arteries and your subject for a stroke, wouldn't you want to know ?

Everyone in this thread is just guessing, you need to go see a trained professional for a medical opinion not a vape forum. There is a chance that 18 years of smoking caught up with you, there is also a chance you hit your rib cage while sleeping or something else completely unrelated. Stop guessing or asking others to guess for you and go see a doctor.

You are not used to it. It takes a little time for your body to get accustomed to the difference between smoke and vapor. It may be something as simple as how often you vape and at what voltage or watts to your nic level or juice and mix percentage. No one person is the same. If you think you are observing something life threatening, see your doctor. If you wish to continue vaping, you may need to adjust things to find what works best for you!
