I read somewhere that it was a brass smok-e Mountain Vanilla mech. No idea if it was a clone or not.
I think that was a previous incident.

Or due to regulation....
Why safer vaping devices that don't explode will not be available in the U.S.
Yeah, but you can't fix or even safeguard stupid-use with mechs. The low-ohm mech craze won't even allow the old-time fuses. They used to make those back when we used sane ohms; remember vape-safe fuses? But now, IDK of any that would work for "sub-ohm" mech vaping.
And the FDA is in the way of standards and new-tech. "...the agency has taken several steps"....bull----.

That one, my friend, is a booster/regulator not a fuse. It's internal circuitry that gives a mech VV tech. Probably has safety features though too.Yep...it's one of these i think but only runs up to 12 wattsA similar device that runs at higher loads would be good but then again would cause a lot of voltage drop.

Yep this has got a fail safe fuse also as far as I know...it's this type of thing though for sure. That one, my friend, is a booster/regulator not a fuse. It's internal circuitry that gives a mech VV tech. Probably has safety features though too.
They made simple fuses too. So the vape-safe fuse would blow if you had a coil short, disconnecting the circuit before the battery overloaded.

Well, they don't make em for vapers that I know of. And I doubt at such low ohms that they'd be sensitive enough and/or robust enough and/or they'd reduce current (they are resistors of a sort). Whatever the reason, can you point at one? Do they make them? To my understanding...no.Of course it would work in sub-ohm. Fuses are rated in Amps as are batteries. You would use a fuse at or just below the Amp rating of your batteries. Then if you tried to pull more than that, the fuse would blow saving your a.. Now it would not be good for those people that like to live dangerously and pull a bit more than the battery specs safely allow but it would keep them off of the news.
Things that can go bump in the night…any "regulated" device you've ever dropped, struck or otherwise mistreated.
Stop trashing mechs for God's sake.
The highest regrettable probability in this case is user error (depression of fire button on insertion into the cup holder).
The best safeguard for vapers and the public at large are communities like this one. Precisely what government, commerce and the media attack at every opportunity.
The best tool is not to be one. Rebuild vaping communion.
Good luck.![]()
98% of these incidents occur when someone tries vaping using a mechanical mod!
I agree the problem is 98%+
E-Cigarette Explosions: Comprehensive ListI’m really going to need a link to show the statistics that 98% and 98%+ are mech related.
The FEMA document cited above suggests that approximately 80 percent of e-cigarette explosions happen during charging.
Explosions resulting from people carrying spare batteries in their pockets are also far more common.

Sadly you are likely right which is why they are not talking. If the shop doesn't sell unregulated devices I don't see any responsibility for what happened. Ideally they explained why they don't sell them and warned him about the risks but they aren't required to. There's a good chance this shop, maybe the entire chain, gets vilified and shuts down over a product they had nothing to do with.
I do not own a mech mod, mainly because I enjoy the regulated mods. My bfriend has a mech, no idea what it is. Used to be red, now it's faded pink! He still uses it, and it has a built in fuse. He does all repair work on it himself. I don't trust a mech, thus I won't buy one!I know vaping has saved my life and continues to do so and I just don't seem to need a mech mod to prove it.
Although if the government takes on all of vaping I will learn to use a mech mod safely if and when I have to. I will also prohibit my family from like, contacting the press, doing an autopsy etc. (I realize it's not totally up to me) but if a mod takes me out of this world, I will beg my family to say it was ANYTHING else.
Like, my Joan of Arc sword did it to me as a bunch of villagers put me on a bunch of kindling. Whatever. Not the vape.

May I remind everyone here, we vapers all look like nut jobs to those who still think cigarettes and tobacco are "cool"! Not only have I had smokers cuss me out, but I've had non smokers/vapers cuss me out! One little old granny told me I should know better than to be polluting the air! (She was smoking a horrid stogie!)The owner is really nice - they did not sell him anything .... they did see him briefly and then boom! I gave him some links to my blogs so he does not think I am a nutjob.
He made a point of saying that they are not hiding anything.

Except that people are ... well ... human. They are going to make mistakes. A minor "user error" shouldn't result in death.
