Hi guys,

starting to work on the parts list for my first homemade box.

I'll go with the vented screw FDV Classic Insert modification, so here is what i have so far (in the cart, not ordered yet) :

board
510
screw
nut
washer
oring
magnets
tubing

Am I good so far?? I am used to metric sys so i may have messed up some dimensions, not sure about the tubing either, does anyone has a link to a good source of tubing that woiuld fit the vented screw?

as far as spring and contact for the battery are concerned, I just have no idea what to get where? any pointers?
same for the bottle, would any bottle do the trick or should i look for a specific bottle?
oh and, what am i totally missing?

Keystone 1048 is a great dual 18650 batt holder and they also have a single batt holder

thx buddy, i wasa thinking, no battery holder i was thinking, battery cradle carved in the wood. am I crazy ??

No you are not crazy at all...check out digikey or mouser for the batt contacts...they have thousands...

My problem exactly what material is easy to solder and good conductor?

Brass, copper, tinned anything are all good choices for battery contacts. Springs are usually crummy. Someone else can probably tell you better which is best.

ok, I must have a thousand unused remote control (dvd player and so on), would it worth it to just rip of the spring and contacts from the batteries compartment?

Look up keystone 54 on digikey. I just ordered some today and it is what I will be using for my wood boxes. I decided not to use copper springs or plates because they oxidize quickly and lose their spring after use. The keystone 54 is a clip so it holds the battery and is also the contact. What are you using for a switch? Quigsworth has a nice thread in Battery mods forum called cheap/easy mech switch that is worth a look. Also you might want a finish for the wood. Something + wax or just wax is good

ok, I got all the parts, the last bit arrived yesterday getting excited, still in the wood carving process, going slowly, but it starts to take shape, so my question is, how do you guys insert the 510 connector, do you tap threads or do you just drill and press fit?

I tap, but I use a metal outer band.
