Why do many people seem to favor low-ohm coils?

Although this is a little late and the conversation has evolved away from this, I'm putting this out there to say...

More than just the inefficiencies, there is also an increased amp draw from the battery to boost the voltage. If you are boosting a 3.7v source to 6v the circuit does this by drawing more amps from the source than it is applying to the load. What we don't have is any info on how much more current is pulled from the battery to boost voltage, but if we understand there is no free lunch in the conversion then it must be more efficient to use the battery at its native voltage.

...you're exactly right, and we do have the info...

You don't 'factor in' the voltage drop you need to measure it under load. No one vapes at 4.2V with a battery, so those figures are meaningless

3.8 under load
.5 ohms
28.88 watts and yes that is sustained for 10 seconds as the voltage drops to 3.3 underload that's still over 20 watts at which point you want to change out batterys anyways. Its all under 10 amps so you wont reach the amp limit of AW IMRs.

I don't get why people are so insecure on how mech mods can produce more power then VV mods. Highest watts a VV / VW board can do now with a 18650 is 20 watts with the DNA20 board. Why is it so hard to believe that the same battery running no electronics can produce a higher wattage? Well the voltage at the battery is different than the voltage at the coils (Yea of course) the voltage at the coils aren't a real reading when the coil warms up (Yea). Who cares. My $40 mech mod kicks out more power than your $200 Provari.....Get over it. I did my homework, I did the math, I spent the time tinkering my device, and I get an awesome vape that a Provari cant match. If someone says they are vaping at 80 watts does it matter? Is that going to take away from your enjoyable vape experience? I enjoy reading everyones builds in this forum and how they build their RBAs. I try some of their ideas. Some are great game changers, while others I scratch my head asking what were they thinking "thinking of JC West vaping a .20 gauge wire on his genny". But hey, my fellow tinkerers. Keep up with the ideas. I am watching and experimenting along side with you.

The point of communication is to transfer information from one brain to another in a way that both brains can grasp. We all know what we mean when we say what we say. So, unless we ALL go back to college and major in electronics engineering (with a minor in being an *), we may just need to discuss this stuff the way we all have been. (and try to have some fun while we're at it)

works for me...

This morning, I'm enjoying 22 Watts of vaping joy on a fresh battery and .08 Coil of 28awg Kanthal

With a mech mod its the only way to fly... I like big vapor production, big throat hit, and big taste. I can get way more of the above listed things from a mech mod and LR coil than I can a variable wattage mod with HR or SR coil.

Sub-ohm coils and mech mods are the best thing that's happened to me since I started vaping.

Got a tip to use petroleum jelly on all electronic connectors. Lubed everything up and went from 3.6 volt underload to 3.9 volt underload sustained for 10 seconds. Flavor / vapor increased of course. Figure I would share the wealth. I suspect I will have to clean and relube oftain, but for that large of an increase I am willing to. Only thing left to do is to take out the 510 connector and make it a hybrid. Goes to show that getting over 20 watts is easy to attain on a mech mod.

What was that other stuff people were using on connectors? Nolaxican greese or something... I know the name I got was wrong. Some stuff you can get at home depot. Think Xfoo mentioned it.

It's Noalox. It's good to use on all tube threads, especially on mechanical mods.
