I have smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day (Ultralight menthols) so I got the high nic level juice to start with. Can you switch to lower levels and gradually wean yourself off nicotine? If so, what would be the easiest way? I was thinking of ordering a bottle of med, low and lowest and just change levels one bottle at a time. Or should you go slower and use 2 or 3 bottles at each nicotine level?

Hi LisaKay,
I don't really know what the mg per ml of juice you're using, you say 'high' and I know some vendor's selling 'high' have three other levels, 'med' and 'low' and '0 nic'. So I'm just assuming your 'high' contains about 16 mg/ml nicotine. That should be a good level for you to avoid withdrawals. Once you've settled in with your e-cig, which ever model it is, get to know how it works best, and comfortable with the the re-charging re-filling and choice of flavors and all, you can for sure cut down the nicotine either by getting the next lower nicotine density, or just cut back on your frequency of use will also lower your daily intake. You are the only one who can feel your comfort level.
As a 2-3 pack a day smoker, I went to 24mg/ml juice for a couple months, and then one day decided to cut that back by 25%, to 18 mg/ml. There was absolutely no withdrawal at all, I was still quite comfortable. My next step will go down to 12mg/ml, will just do that at a time when I know the time is right, no rules about it, just what ever your personal goal is. If you're on the road to quitting nicotine I see no reason to feel like you have to be on a firm schedule to do that. That's the #1 reason that stop smoking therapies don't work, it's done by someone else's schedule without regard to your 'comfort' zone! The whole idea is to do it without triggering any panic, being thrown in the water to swim!
When I hit 12 mg juice for example, I think I will hold at that level. I have a tendency to need a little extra calmness, but that's just my make-up. I have ADD, which tends to make me a little prone to depression, so yes I guess I do self-medicate with nicotine. As long as I know I am doing no harm to myself or unlike smoking cigarettes, no harm to everyone around me, I see no reason to stop doing what I'm doing and taking, for example, and $100 a month prescription of some other chemical!! Or just go through life on edge without any chemicals. Nah. Then if calmness prevails, I'll just cut back on vaping frequency. Just to keep myself on even keel, knowing my e-cig is close by if needed.
So good luck to you, and welcome to ECF.

Congratulation LisaKay,, last 6 years of a 27year analog habit of 11/2 to 2 packs a day I was on ultra lights 100's,, I dropped analogs alot easier then I thought I would.. I did try to go down to the lower nic levels but found that I was vaping more continuesly through out the day,, So I went back to my 24mg and 18mg and started vaping less often.. Just happened that I worked on stopping all the physical triggers that I had on analogs,, driving in the vehicle, talking on the phone, don't take my e cig with me anymore, to where I am just vaping in the morning with my first cup of coffee,, and in the evening winding down the day... And I like how this route has ended up working out for the long run... I hated being tied to analogs,, and I really didn't want to feel tied to vaping either ... When I have gotten up late and needed to get out the door before my coffee, it hasn't bothered me not to get that morning vape in so think that is a good sign over all... So that is where this has all ended up at this time for me...
If I ever feel like I want a lower nic level,, I feel I can cut my higher nic juice with VG as being more cost productive since I can't raise the nic level higher as easily as I can dilute it lower ...

best wishes..:)
