Vaping on a plane

I'm new to vaping, just over a week now and well I haven't touched a real smoke since I started. I have just taken a TAP flight from Lisbon Portugal to Maputo Mozambique. Before I took the flight i read the forum string here that was full of stealth ideas etc, however the sales leaflet I picked up when I purchased my e-cig clearly said it can be smoked on planes. So I decided to give it a go and just play dumb if I had any issues and point at the leaflet. Well I vaped in the airport in plane view, even at boarding while the lady scanned my boarding card, and not a word was said. I vaped throughout the 11 hour flight in my seat again in plane sight and not even a glance apart from what I think was a very jealous smoker who later asked where he could buy one.

Now I wasn't blowing plumes of vapour in the air to call attention nor was I stealthing, but something in between, perhaps just held the vapour longer than usual. So I'm still not 100% on the law and rules I can only assume at this point that it differs within airlines and between the U.S and EU. I just thought i'd share my experience here.

I guess it all depends on how comfortable you are with paying the $2,200 fine if the airlines wishes to pursue the matter.

Well, last time, I Vaped through all six flights on my last trip. But I stealth Vaped most of them..... the air Asia one, super stealth, Cuz they gave the impression of being more strict. But on my other flights, without blowing much vapor, I vaped in clear view of the flight attendants and they just smiled.
I think some airlines are not so clear on the issue yet.

Regardless of what the package the ecig came in said, most of the airlines I fly clearly state "no e-cigarette use". I'd refrain if it were me.

I personally just wouldn't do it. Not so much about legality but more so courtesy. While I love vaping and wouldn't mind sitting beside someone who was puffing away (I wouldn't even mind 2nd hand analogue smoke) you can't speak for everyone else. Especially if someone is allergic or has adverse hatred for a flavour you happen to be using.

For instance I once knew a guy who HATED bananas. I don't know why, but they made him choke up. Hence my banana flavoured juice wouldn't be pleasant for him.

Point being you're on a tube with several other people, just out of courtesy I wouldn't vape on the flight. I know it's hard (I remember a 12 hour flight while I was still on analogs...was brutal...) but we gotta deal with our addictions.

Individual airline policies vary. Air Canada for example sells ciga-likes on board some of it's international flights...but you can't use your own rig.

I think I'd vape in the can and carry a 32mg nicotine bottle just for quick puffs on American flights. Now on a night flight I might vape under my blanket.
