Have you tried using a different ohmmeter or just testing a higher ohm build on a regulated mod to see what the resistance reads as and then comparing that to your meter?
Actually I tried to fire it up in my IPV mini 2 (minimum 0.2ohms) and I couldnt (it reads 0.1ohm) so I guess the reading in the ohmmeter is right.
You could also try Kanthal. It has a higher internal resistance than Nichrome. I build dual 8wrap 3mm id coils with 22G kanthal and i think its right around .2. What mod are you using this on?
Steam engine says that 24g Ni80, 8 wraps on a 2.5mm ID should be at .25... But if I change the ID to 3.175 (which is a 1/8 drill bit) you only need 6.7 wraps to achieve the same .25ohm. Subsequently if you wrap a 8wrap 3.175mm id coil it should be around .3ohms.... This same coil wrapped in Kanthal only requires 6 wraps to achieve the same .3ohms. these are all based on dual coil builds.
I would get a quality Ohm Meter from somewhere like USAOhmmeters or the like. Im betting if you slowly unscrew or tighten your RDA in that meter your reading will change.
You could also try building a 3 or 3.5mm coil and that should bring up your resistance as it will physically take more wire to make as the coils are larger.
Also, just a thought but when mounting your coils into your RDA, if you mount them so the wire at the outside edge or the RDA comes from the top of the coil rather than the bottom as you have makes it easier to wick a tad. as you have them mounted your wick has to go over that leg and then a sharp bend to get into your juice well. if the wire comes off the top of the coil you wont have to deal with that.
Yes, I need to buy some Kanthal A1, Nichrome is too low in resistance, actually Im not sure which Nichrome type is it, but I also chaked myself Steam Engine and should be that low ohms, thats why I was surprised with the reading.
I've also tried to unscrew a little or screw it again, the reading is the same and I've tried in another ohmmeter and it reads 0.17ohm, also quiet low:
Yes, you are right, would be easier to wick this coil in the way you say because there's not much space at the edge of the RDA and that bottom leg is a pain in the aXX, thanks!!
Your resistance is coming out so low because:
you are using nichrome, and 24 gauge at that (a lot less resistance than kanthal; not quite as low as ni200 but it is very noticable, especially when your mod can't develop the voltage to fire higher mass coils due to resistance being so low).
you are running two coils. Think of wire as a highway that cars (the electrons) travel on. If you double the available path between positive and negative (i.e. dual coils) you provide twice the surface for traffic to flow; as they have twice the available path to take, resistance drops by half. Along this line of thought, if you increase the wire diameter (decrease the gauge #) you also get more surface area for the electrons to flow across, yielding less resistance than a higher gauge wire.
Use lighter wire or use kanthal. You will likely prefer the shorter ramp up time of a lighter coil anyhow.
Yes I agree with that, problem is that those RDAs are for double coils and 24ga is ery easy to deal with, but I suppose i should be using 26ga instead.
One more question, If I use my nemesis for this setup with my either Samsung 25R or LG HE2, do you think would be safe to vape in such low ohms setup?
Thanks guys!
