Hello to everyone,

So I just got the phone call from my wife that our e-cig kits arrived in the mail today. Both of us, she is a ECF member also, have decided to give up analog cigs and take the leap into ecigs. So lets see, just to give you folks a bit of the inside stuff; excited, nervous, afraid and curious, are just a few of them about the switch. Kit waiting on the counter at home is a V4L medium size batteries, empty carts, and e liquids.

I am a pack to pack and half a day smoker, got sick and tired of the price of cigs. Have smoked for 34 years, with a few short times of quiting in that time. Want the future of my health not being a issue with smoking.

So any worldly advice about the switch, encouraging and 'just watch out' type advice? My plan - charge up kit tonite, smoke my last analog tonite and start with ecigs in the a.m. Have sorta had a interesting week of a last horray for smoking, buying some different brands to just get it out of my "mental" system.

Welcome to ECF. Congrats to you and your wife. The goal is admirable, but not always necessary since there is a learning curve to e-cigs and you don't want to set a goal that will disappoint. It's up do you. What I did was get everyting working 1st, made sure the e-cigs worked for me, tried a few juices, and atomizers. Took a few weeks. THEN I decided to not buy anymore smokes.

Now that's me. But it's a good way to keep expectations in line and ensure your success. Many people will post about doing exactly what you described successfully. Others get frustrated. I sure don't want to curb your enthusiasm tho. So only you know you.

Congrats again, and good luck on your e-cig journey.

My best advice is to not try to stop smoking entirely at once. You may need to gradually work vaping in as a replacement while you get used to the e-cig "maintenance routine." don't get too discouraged at once. Experiment with your drags as it takes a bit of getting used to. Remember, long slow drags.

I wish you the best of luck :)

Like a lot of people my first puff of an ecig was horrible. It tasted like burnt carpet. That turned out to be due to the primer on atomizers. A few articles and youtube videos later and I was good. So the moral is, there is probably 5,000 juices being sold now, not to mention hundreds of devices. Don't put too much stock in that first puff. If its a disappointment, figure out why and try again.

V4L batteries come "pre-charged" (not fully charged...but will do until you've got the other batt charged :D) if you're not sure about what flavors you'll like i highly recommend getting some prefilled sampler packs. that way you can try the flavors out without ending up with lots of ejuice you really don't like. as a bonus if you don't like the flavor you can clean the cartos out & refill with a flavor you do like. :D

as far as starting in the a.m. personally i'd try at least a few drags off of the e-cig tonight to kinda get your bearings...Good Luck, Happy Vaping & welcome to ECF (after you get your 5 posts you can post in the V4L subforum...it can get pretty lively & some great folks there :D)

I hope you don't put to much pressure on yourself to quit smoking cold turkey. I'm convinced that (for me) it was effortless because I didn't set rules. I got an overpriced ecig to see if it would work in places I couldn't smoke. Within a couple of days I wasn't smoking cigarettes. I was amazed. The PAD habit was gone. Some have that experience on day one, others still have a couple of cigarettes a day months into vaping. Every cigarette you don't smoke is a victory. Congrats on your decision. Let us know how it's going for you :)

Hi to everyone! This is Photogame's wife and I just wanted to add my thank you to all of you for responding. This is definitely an adventure for both of us and I look forward to sharing it with him. I've been thinking about it for awhile now, but his decision to also make the switch was the deciding factor for me.

And thanks to this forum, I feel a bit more comfortable and prepared for this. No doubt we'll both have our ups and downs as we adjust. But I'm glad to know I can come here and ask the questions - everyone seems incredibly friendly! Thanks everyone!

Yup, my hubby and I started out on the V4L Vapor Kings :) He still loves those batteries, and I use them when I am not using my go-go. There is such a wide array of juices, the sampler pack are the way to go... gives you an idea of where your taste preference will lie. My hubby and I had WAY different tastes in the beginning :) (I personally LOVED the Hilton juice)

I loved vaping from moment one. I even had a half a pack of smokes when I got my first PV, and I gave them to hubby and never looked back. I did have some craving for the 'smoke' but the e-cig got me thru them easily. Everyone is different!!

Some things to make sure you do... take slow drags off the e-cig..... if you dont like the taste, try another ... drink LOTS of WATER (that one is a biggie)... and realize you will be de-toxing your body for a few days :) and ASK ANY question.... no matter how small or seemingly simple.... we all went thru this too :)

Congrats on your new healthier adventure and buckle up for an enjoyable ride!!!!

Thank you to everyone for the welcome and advice. Now I know my plans and intentions might be a bit on the high side, but I have to start somewhere. Ok, now for the reality side, I did not have alot of faith in USPS to get me my package today so on the way to work I bought 2 packs of cigs. Todays and tomorrows, package comes on Sat., Sunday A.M. I start. So, the extra pack of cigs I can just hide, just nobody tell my wife about them..... opps,. Yes I do have not only a good sense of humor but some realistic views of just going cold turkey from my the old cig habit.

So Honey, now that I know your reading today, have you tried yours yet?

Take care everyone......:2cool:

If you seriously want to make the switch "cold" so to speak: I read someone suggest thinking of it as changing brands, which helped get me over the hump. Personally I didn't set a deadline and today is my one month anniversary! I was down to five cigs a day after a week, and one a day since about the second week. Decided this week to drop the analogs when this pack runs out - six stinkies to go...

Congrats to you both! Take it slow and do lots of reading on the forum. And there are not any stupid questions!! Just ask. Someone will help you out. And remember the advice about drinking water! Drink and drink and when you think you have drank enough, drink more!!!!! The one think I have learned is that your health gets better but the wallet gets thinner if you let it!! This is a worse addiction for me than smokes!! I have got two mod kits coming in the mail today and the husband and me will be making them this weekend. I can't wait!! My next big purchase is going to be a bottom feeder!! Happy vaping!!!

Congrats on deciding to switch to vaping !

My advise to those just starting is to understand vaping is NOT the exact same experience as smoking. It is different. Let it be a different and don't try to duplicate smoking exactly. Go as long as you possibly can without having a cigarette when you start vaping. There is no harm in giving in and having a cig but only have one and go back to vaping and again, do your best to wait as long as you can before giving in to one again. Some people quit easily and other struggle. We are all different and there is no right or wrong. Every cigarette not smoked is a positive.

There is money to be saved in vaping vs smoking but for most of us successful vaporers we find we spend quite a bit in our beginning finding what PV works best for us with what atty and or carto and then there is finding what juices we prefer. What works best for one of you may not be the best for the other. Remember variety is the spice of life :) Expect to spend money and don't worry abt the savings for the next few months.

Good Luck !

I totally agree!! And then one day you just might find that the cigarette tastes crappy!! I took a drag off my sons' analog the other day and thought 'OMG! That is the nastiest thing I have ever tasted!!' Right now vaping peaches and cream which beats the taste of an analog anytime!!

Best of luck to both of you.
I started vaping last Dec. and had tobacco onhand. I immediately was able drop my cigarettes down to a couple a day. I continued to smoke that way until i ran out of tobacco. There were days when i didn't even have a cig, and days i had maybe 2. By the time i ran out of tobacco, i didn't miss it and preferred the vape to the smoke.
Remember you will have to play around with the draw as its not like a real cigarette.:vapor:

congrats to both you and your 'other half' trying to quit and trying out vaping to help the transition.... there's so much info and gear out there, let alone the flavors/nicotine strengths to choose from... I started with an auto 'cigarette-look-a-like' and quickly stopped my 2 to 3 pack a day (swisher mini cigars, packaged like cigarettes), giving away that e-cig kit to a friend, only a few days after quitting the analogs... it was just recent, that I noticed that vaping is quite large and not as unknown as I had thought, because i never really thought to research it when I tried to quit...and recently gotten my first a mod, a Roughstack from Mad Vapes.. I love the thing ;) I decided on that one after trying a few different mods that one of my neighbors has...

vaping and cigarette free since 10/24/2010

Wish you both the best of luck. I was successful in going from 1 1/2 PAD to just vaping overnight as you are planning and I live with a smoker. (OK in full disclosure I might have had a few cheater puffs the first day) Your experience may not be the same and it's OK. As another wise member pointed out recently (Sorry to the OP of this as I can't remember who to give credit to at the moment) but It's Not a Race!

While waiting for tomorrow make sure you read as much as you can on here, particularly the stickies in this forum and http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/36180-wonderful-world-vaping-illustrated-guide-e-cigs-part-1-6-a.html ove in the ECF Library.

Lets see if I got this right, no racing, plenty of water, read all that I can, don't take a vape quick, slow and easy, leave the door open to the possible analog, expect to spend, hope to save, experiment, keep a good attitude, and enjoy myself. I imagine I missed a few, well just trying to make some light of the situation. Ok, just killing time while I am still at work, yah caught me......
