You are assuming that everyone will completely void and rinse their stuff thoroughly.

That is a big assumption. What do you have against a water rinse which is a foolproof way for people to go without any experience in handling liquid transfer?

You should only be using flavorings that are water soluble anyway, so water is as good a solvent as anything else.

Are you addressing me? I've got nothing against a water rinse. It's how I clean my stuff usually. Unless I get a flavor that sticks around, then I do a bit more. The one problem with a water rinse in small diameter measuring instruments is that it can take a long time to evaporate. Alcohol speeds up the internal drying. With water you can also place the measuring tools in a warm dry place with some air circulation to speed up the process. Other than that, I think water is fine and dandy for washing stuff.

I do water rinse during a mixing session. Its when I am completely done that I use isopropyl. I find that water alone still leaves a slight aroma of the flavors in the equipment. I do the same treatment to leftover bottles because they do hold the aroma. I agree glass bottles are the way to go, just have'nt had the funds to spring for them yet.

I am going to rant a little at people with zero background in chemistry giving advice on what to put into your lungs. If that sounds arrogant to some of you, too bad!

It's not a "rant" or arrogant, it's informative and educated if someone has the background. So, with your info, if someone has been using isopropyl, and are thoroughly rinsing with hot water, that'd be ok, or no?

Clean everything first in soap and water to get rid of all the grime and then boil for 10min, take them out while still hot so they dry faster. Cheap and easy. Heat is the best way to sterilize anything as long as it can take the heat.

Using isopropyl or any other harmful chemical is not the way to go, if you by some chance vaped that .... it could be very bad for your health. Use the same methods to clean your gear like you would with baby bottles and jam jars, just google "How to sterilize jam jars".

Isopropyl: Highly flammable. Irritating to eyes. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness. http://www.flints.co.uk/pdffiles/isopropyl_alcohol_msds.pdf

I thought isopropyl evaporated completely. Is that not the case?
No unless its heated and alcohol likes to bind its self to water, it will pull moisture from the air making it even harder to evaporate.

isopropyl is nasty .... to get in your system stay away from it there is safer methods to clean your gear.

I just rinse my syringes in water (not even hot). Do these things really need to be sterilized? It's not something I've ever worried about a bit. If flavors, PG, and VG were going to go bad (and turn into something dangerous) in the few days of sitting around on a syringe before the next mixing session, wouldn't those things be going bad in the bottles pretty quickly too? (Assuming that you don't store all of your ingredients in the fridge/freezer. I don't.) Has anyone had a bottle of flavoring go bad/rotten? None of mine have as far as I can tell.

The only reason I rinse mine is so they don't get gunked up, and so no flavors carry over into the next mix. Water does that just fine.

They can but its unlikely. Anything you use to ingest you wanna keep clean. E juice you want to be able to store as long as possible so the cleaner you keep all your gear the better just like if you were making jam or something like that.

Grats on your sobriety! I'll have 3 years on the 22nd. There are many different methods to cleaning, I don't use drinking alcohol for anything, and don't keep any around. I find having rubbing alcohol to be safe for me to use though since I can't drink it.....well I could lol but honestly it doesn't sound that appealing lol. I used to keep listerine around, but got to thinking about all the stories of people drinking it and getting drunk off of it, and decided just not to have it around either. You'll find what works for you, you know your limitations better than any of us.
