Background:

I've been vaping for like 3 years now. Started with some 510 manuals went through all the egos. The whole time I'd vape and smoke and vape and smoke and then smoke only for a while. Something new would come out and I'd buy it, try vaping and go back to smoking pretty soon.

My last analog was 9 weeks ago. What changed was I quit smoking with a patch. But after 4 weeks of not smoking I knew I was going to tempted big time on a out of town camping trip so I broke out my lavatube and viva novas and started vaping again. That was a little over a month ago. I use 0 mg nicotine mixes and am fine. Now I have zero desire for a smoke and I consider myself a nonsmoker. If I lost the ecig I would probably end up smoking again, but right now I'm fine.

However, I went to the doctor for something last week and it was my first time going to this doctor but he's signed up as my regular physician I just haven't had to use him since I signed up. He asked if I smoked and I said no, I quit 2 months ago. He said great, how'd I do it. I said patch but then ecigs when I felt I was slipping. I could tell he was like ".... NUB U SMOKE THEN" and I was like "... IT'S NOT TOBACCO U CHUD".

I don't take smoke breaks at work. Mostly because I have my own office with so I can vape all day there. I'm not part of the smoking crew like I used to be. Also, health wise I feel a LOT better. I also don't smell. I have a 4 year old, I'll vape in the car with him in there and I don't feel wrong doing that.

So what's the consensus as to are you a smoker? What you believe and what other people think?

I smoked for 47 years. I am still a nicotine addict and probably always will be. If I can no longer vape I would probably have to go back to smoking or some other way to get the nic.

My Dr. was happy as hell. She made me show her how it works.

I have run into anti nicotine people in the health care industries but they have no idea how hard it is to quit and possibly don't care.

One said "But nicotine is a poison!" and I replied that so is nearly any alkaloid if you take enough in. Caffeine is used as a pesticide in some places.

I don't smoke anymore. I get my nicotine fix through my PV now. When asked, I say I quit over 2 months ago. I do not consider myself a smoker, because I am not smoking.

Same here.. I'm going on my first month without traditional tobacco and have had some issues with the stigma of being labeled as a 'non smoker'. Asked my wife her opinions and she's on board with the as soon as quit smoking tobacco but I'm more on the lines of a week or more just in case ya slip.

I believe many healthcare organizations/companies have a 6 month mark to where you can then change your Smoker to Non Smoker on your insurance/healthcare/etc. This would be the first big goal and after that point I would consider myself a true non smoker and not someone who's not smoked in several weeks/month.

Regardless, it's up to you and how you perceive yourself. If your dedicated to quitting then using the term, even among yourself and spouse/peers, you give yourself motivation to continue being that non smoker.

Of course, just my 2c :)

I have to ask, did the doctor actually state that you "U SMOKE THEN" or was that something you implied from their reaction?

Because doctors are well educated to know what smoking is, burning something and inhaling the fumes. If this doctor didn't know what smoking was, I would drop them in a heart beat.

My doctor and I disagree about many things but we do agree about smoking. He is glad I quit smoking.

He would like me to reduce my nicotine intake, but he left it up to me and surprisingly, I do require less nicotine as time goes on.

Since I don't smoke, I don't consider myself a smoker!

Neither does my doctor, dentist, ENT specialist, postman, cat, wife, or mother-in law.

No, my doctor did not actually say ".... NUB U SMOKE THEN". LOL. It was my take on his reaction. Kinda like when I said I quit he was like "great" and when I said I was using electronics he was rather tempered in his response. It was my take on his reaction.

I've had some co-workers that don't understand any of it and kinda consider it "smoking" still. But for the most part the reactions are OK for those that know me.

That's kind of my take on the situation, too. The ones that "know" the difference between smoking are glad we don't smoke, but not overjoyed that we vape.

My wife is glad I don't smoke, not so glad that I have a new habit.

And then there is the unwashed masses that see nicotine as the evil in smoking, rather than the smoke itself! Lol

It took me awhile to mentally separate myself from being a smoker. Now, you bet, I'm a non smoker :) first three months tho, not so much. I wasn't smoking, I guess I just still felt like a smoker? Lol I dunno. When I stopped smoking it felt too easy, I felt like I cheated at quitting smoking... Maybe that's why it took so long for me to call myself a non smoker. :)

I'm not a Smoker. 2 months and 25 days in and smoking seems like a distant memory. The first couple of days I thought I needed a cigarette...but I never craved a cigarette as long as I kept vaping. On day 3 or 4, I tried to smoke a cigarette and had to put it out after 2 drags. It sucked, tasted like dookey. I was done. I just wanted to vape. Once I got my head fully wrapped around the idea that I was getting the nicotine, and it was working...and everything was o.k. ...I never looked back or thought about smoking.

I don't smoke.

I Vape.

Right now, whether I ween off nicotine or not is of absolutely no concern to me. I enjoy vaping and it's not killing me. I'm feeling better, smelling better, can taste and sense of smell and energy level is WAAAY better.

That's all I care about.
