Somewhere out there
I am not allowed to vape at work so I stealth vape. Sometimes I'm afraid I might set off the smoke alarms in the bathroom. Will vape set off a smoke alarm?

If there's enough vapor to set off a smoke alarm, you're hardly being stealthy.

It's more about the temperature of the smoke, I vape constantly in my basement, it gets pretty cloudy in here some days and it's never gone off, some of the more advanced smoke alarms like those on airplanes might go off..

Back when I smoked cigarettes it never went off either I guess. I know some people that use flavorless 18mg in a cheap evod for stealth vaping and it produces very little vapor, they usually vape 6mg..

this reminds me when i started smoking cigars about 10 years ago and it was freezing outside those damn chicago winters..so i went into my bathroom at home and turned on the air vent so the smoke would not linger in the house parents did not like the smell of smoke but i was so dumb i did not realize my vent was not properly installed it went straight into the kichen lol so about 10 seconds later i got a house full of people yelling and screaming whats burning is something on fire..lmao..

Yes It can but that's usually blowing clouds, stealth vaping, I very much doubt it.. I have done it at my grandmothers house which was warden aided, they were soon on the intercom..opps. I was decorating at the time and never really thought about it, I blamed the wallpaper steamer..

hahaha, I did a similar thing, looking back, no matter what you do, someone is going to smell that smoke, only since I've become an ex smoker have I realised, it's almost impossible to cover up.. Funny stroy though, I can imagine you scrambling to put it out in a panic lol

i just tested and i can set off the standard home smoke alarm if i try really hard (not a cloud vapour person) but i cannot set off the fire alarm. the fire alarm will not even go off with cigarette smoke - it detects the colour of smoke or the chemicals in it. which is good because the fire alarm is linked up to other homes here :D

edit: vapour dissipates very quickly and smoke hangs about. so i would think that it is highly unlikely unless you try. dust can set them off also. so do not go to work with skin or clothing!

Wait, it took a cigar to find the bathroom vent vents to the kitchen? Never mind.

The typical smoke alarm that you find in homes and businesses are very hard to set off with vapor. You CAN, but you'll basically have to blow a good sized cloud of vapor directly into the detector to set it off.

There are some very sensitive types of smoke detectors, such as those used in airplanes and the types required in businesses that use explosive gasses and chemicals, but you're not going to run into those unless you're in a dangerous environment to begin with. They're very expensive detectors and most places aren't going to pay that much for the extra sensitivity. Especially considering things like a toaster or microwave popcorn could set them off just as easily as ecig vapor.

Depends on what type of detector it is but yes, vaping can set some of them off under the right circumstances.

Its quite possible for dense vapour to trigger an optical smoke alarm - for an ionisation smoke alarm, I have no idea.

Should you find the ionisation type to be immune - you can detect them with a Geiger counter.
