Friends, something very weird has been happening to me this week. I am concerned that it may have something to do with vaping, but I can't find any information online to support that, so hopefully it's something else.

It started at work. I started smelling fumes - like the odor of car exhaust. I complained to Facilities - told them there must be fumes coming in through the AC vent. The weird things was, a few other people said they smelled it too, in various parts of the building. So I thought it was a problem in the building itself. But Facilities told me that there is no gas anywhere - all electrical, and that there was no possible way any car exhaust or machine exhaust could be entering the building. I was scratching my head trying to figure it out, when two nights ago, I realized I was smelling it at home as well!

Sometimes the smell is so strong it makes my eyes almost water and makes me light headed, as if I was actually breathing in fumes from a tail pipe.

I Googled it and found many other people who have the same problem - smelling exhaust fumes where there are none. They linked it to all sorts of health issues, of which I have none - I even found a post that correlated the problem to brain tumors! This of course, has me very concerned! But I feel perfectly fine! Other than the annoyance of smelling exhaust, there doesn't seem to be a thing wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am perplexed.

Ever consider that your sense of smell and t-buds may have, at least partially, returned?

Not related to vaping, yes to fibromyalgy. My nose has always been sharper when it comes to strong odors including gas, exhaust fumes, perfume and the sort. I think it has nothing to do with vaping except for the part that your sinuses might be clearing. The thing that other people don't smell it doesn't matter. You do smell and that's what matters. Doesn't mean you suffer from fibromyalgy, but if it gets worse, or you start developing headaches, see a reumathologyst about it.

I dunno...sometimes I think that as my sense of smell and taste returns the 'ol smell-o-center gets confused. Almost like I smell something familiar but it's been so long the brain can't place it and find the next closest match. Ever walk down the street and catch a glimpse of someone you recognize but as you get closer you realize it's not them? Kinda like that.

Couple of days ago I could swear I smelled cigarette smoke in our house. I wandered from room to room trying to pinpoint the source. My wife and kids smelled nothing. Drove me crazy but it eventually went away.

Haha - Pepe!

Yes I did think that at first, but the fact that I am smelling the same annoying odor at home as I do at work tells me it must be a phantom odor - something not actually there. The other people who smelled it at work I think were just succumbing to the power of suggestion, because there were many more who said they smelled nothing at all.

No - I vape mostly menthol and lately, organic banana. This last hour since I posted this thread, the "fumes" have gotten really strong. It's all I smell now unless I put something else with a distinct odor right up to my nose. It's driving me crazy.

I vaped banana once, and my wife complained of a car exhaust smell. She could taste it a little in the banana vape too. Stop vaping the banana and see if it goes away after a few days.
