So, I was messin' around with something else, and this conversation came to mind, (2nd post addresses it) I found a substantial difference when I was really paying attention, and had a true comparison set up.

Very interesting. I couldn't notice much. Though it may have been related to comparing ERA vs RM2, but the two setups seemed to produce similar results to me. I'll have to try again sometime!

Just resurrecting this thread for newcomers :)
Thanks for the resurrection.
After messing with the Nano and the Micro coils and not really finding the vape I want. I threw this together before walking out the door 5 wraps around 3mm silica, this is the first time I didn't double up the wick and I normally get .7 ohms this morning I got .5 ohms on a single strand of 3mm. A little hotter than I like but still under 10 amps so I went with it for the day. I know its a mess but I only had 5min to throw something together.

I am running the 2.3 on a grand. I typically prefer 1.7 or so in a micro coil, but this is working great so far. I run a similar setup in my VVG, but I keep the power turned town.

Are you running about 11 coils scrunched together and small diameter (1/16" +/-) or 6 or so fatter coils?

I ask because I didn't like the higher ohms till I made tiny touching coils. With fatter coils I was running around 1 ohm.

I'm getting the itch to order one of these. Can you tell me how long you have to wait to heat up a 2.3 ohm coil on the grand? Seems like it would take a little bit. Do you have a delay between when you hit the button and take your drag?

It's near instantaneous :). I usually fire as I'm lifting the mod to my mouth and hit immediately - no primer hit needed. :)

^^ Most Recent NEX skinny TEL build on my VVG. Really loving this stuff, mainly because of its cleanliness in both vape characteristics and the wick itself. Additionally, it is very easy to build a great vaping setup. I am going to leave these in for as long as possible to test long term vapability and durability. I like how it holds its shape when cut precisely and not frayed by over aggressive wrapping.

^^ This nextel build has been in use for going on 6 days now. Vape characteristics are unchanged. The wick was frayed like this when I built it by some poor cutting and overly aggressive wrapping on my end. Notice in both setups that the wick doesn't droop towards the deck like cotton does after a days use.

So... I have been preaching and raving about cotton here for ages. I tried the Nex skinny Tell and found I didn't like it as I had to squonk more often etc. I went back to cotton on one Hornet and kept a little Nextel, set up the other Hornet and sent left over to Rob to try. I went on vactation with both my Hornets. I started with the nextel setup on first day of vacation, second day,.... went the whole week with the original setup.I started getting the hang of squonking more often and found the flavor and vapor to get better and better as I went along. The vape seemed much smoother, cleaner, and consistent then with the cotton. Hmmmmm. I slowly see a conversion coming!! Maybe I jumped the gun on my judgment of the Nextel!

Yeah, I don't get that ↑. I read it, a few times now. Where's the scary part? don't misunderstand, please. I use more cotton than Nextel these days. But Nextel is some pretty effective wicking material, and I've had great luck with it.

The part that bothers me is the particulate that comes when the wicking is heated. Although it is not sufficient to cause alarm by EPA standards, I would rather not expose myself. I had dealings with asbestos and fiberglass and have seen x-rays of foreign fibers in the lungs. I evaded problems then (with the asbestos and fiberglass fibers) and would rather not press my luck now. Asbestosis is not pleasant from what I have heard.

I appreciate the link. I'm comfortable with the old school silica and might give cotten another try, but frankly, I'm happy where I am.

Although there are known risks with silica (See OSHA fact sheet here), they seem minimal compared to what I smoked for 50 years with cigarettes, and I doubt I'm getting large quantities of silica dust from my wicks which last upwards of a month each.

I prefer the nextel over cotton too. I vape mostly NETs and the cotton seems to filter out some of the solids in the juice, drastically altering the flavor. Cotton does seem to wick better though. With the nextel I've been leaving longer legs on them and keeping them wet. I was worried about the RM2 sucking all the excess juice out of the atty because I count on it as part of my setup. What I've been doing is holding it at 45 degrees when I squonk, this lets the juice pool on the button side of the atty and when I release the bottle it sucks some out but mostly air. When I sit it back upright I have just the right amount of juice to work with my wick for the kind of vape I like. Squonking every hit or two doesn't work for me, too much hassle.

Comparing the two I have found basically the same thing- cotton- cheap, better wicking, more hits per squonk, muted flavor - Nextel -more expensive, longer lasting (by far), better cleaner flavor from juice, less hits per squonk. So each has it's strong points. i have found I go thru more juice with Nextel, probably due to more squonking and chain vaping because the flavor is soooooo good, cotton less juice consumption but alot left in cotton after squonk/vape because the first few vapes have good flavor then become muted so i squonk again. and again, leaving unvaped juice in the cotton. This is all just my opinion of course!

Nextel is slica type wick. Hollow in middle as it is made for wire sleeving.
Check out Big Tex Vapor and it will give you more info. Next skinny Tel is the 1/32 variety which is thinner than 116 and better for RBAs in my oppinion as you can make smaller microcoils with it.
