Pros and Cons of Subtank OCC versus RBA

The redesigned STm, due to release with the subox, apparently has a redesigned rba as well. I guessing that means the juice channels will be wider since they state it will work with higher wattage.

I'm not sure if the juice channels will be wider, but what I do know is the new RBA has holes on both sides of the chimney. I guess Kanger saw the Youtube videos of people doing this and decided it was a good idea. You can see more details in the first Youtube video I've seen for the Subox. The video and audio quality isn't that good, but you do get to see the Subox in someones hands.

More towards the theme of the thread, I too am a little bothered in the differences between the coils, mostly dealing with airflow. It seems impossible to find a setting that makes the occ draw like the rba, and vice-versa, with the occ head being the airier of the two. Hopefully this wont get worse with the gen3 redesigns.

As far as their performance on their own, I wills say that even with maxVG and unmodified juice channels, their downfall is airflow, as I just cant get enough air going through them to keep the vape cool. Though it's better discussed in the other ST threads, pancake wicking is the key.

My experience with the RBA is close to what someone said here. They wet it and before putting on the chimney part, they push the cotton away from the edges back toward the coil.There is also something that I heard about the RBA (and I have all the subtank's) is with cotton, is less is more. Don't cram the case part full. I cut the cotton and do something similar that Rip Tripper calls the pancake method. My coil is at a angle and once wicked and some juice applied. I will tuck the end back toward the base where the coil is. It leaves sort of a hump at the coil where the cotton is higher than the coil. Look up a guy called Qorax on youtube. He mainly does the foreign stuff but his method is spot on. I do own a Gus mod and it works flawlessly doing it this way. Since then I have done any rebuildables the same way and have had luck with them all. As far as the OCC heads, my best result is to knock the top off using a small screwdriver through the bottom end and rebuild a vertical coil in it. the 3mil holes on the side are plenty to keep it wicked so no dry hits. All preference!!! starters will go with subtank......then after u get bored go for the RBA..... so damn many things to do with RBA!!!

If you use thick juice you have to move the cotton against the wicking holes on your RBA deck. As for the OCC coil you just have to get used to shorter puffs. Thas why I use my subtank only for driving and I drip the rest of the day.
