OCC coil and RBA wicking

Alright guys sorry for another thread I'm learning slowly.

I have two OCC atoms which came with my kanger subtank mini and an RBA.


Well I just attempted to rewick one of my OCC coil ( I still have one with stock wick working fine so I'm ok ) however I twisted the cotton out of the side hole as I have seen in some how to videos and I wanted to make sure that the coil is ok to use.

I don't really know how to explain it but I'm worried somehow while twisting the cotton I may have bunched the coil too close together. I can put a tooth pick through it still so the cotton should fit fine.. I just don't want to use it if I have messed up the coil.

Part two of my question is with the RBA.. I've been using the OCC coils on my batteries fine, I just wanted to make sure the RBA isn't anymore demanding as I plan to re wick that tonight too. If the OCC coils have been fine with my batteries the RBA should too right?

The RBA section, if built to the same resistance as the OCC, should put no more strain on your battery than the OCC. Its advantage is in letting you build to whatever value you want, wick with whatever your want, and not be left without should you not be able to purchase new heads for any reason.

Never fire a coil - new or rebuilt - without first checking that everything is what it's supposed to be. While regulated mods have some built-in protections, firing without checking leaves ONLY that electronic circuit protecting your face and hands. That would be a heck of a time for the circuit to fail... And mechs have NO protection in them unless you're using a fuse or a Kick.

So, short story, check the resistance of the one you're working on rebuilding. If it's ok, then before putting the wick in, fire it and see if it glows evenly, from the middle out. If it does, go ahead and rewick, it's probably fine. If not, google up some vids on rebuilding the OCC (easier than the older Kanger single bottom coils, btw, and they're easy if a bit small to work on.)

I will get an ohms reader asap when I step out, however I have no current method of checking the resistance on the OCC 1.2 I'm re wicking, or the RBA. I've successfully rewicked the RBA at the moment but have not fired it up. These were all stock atomizers that came with the subtank mini. Currently using the kbox with protection added in but as you said you can never be too safe.

I'm assuming ( which I know is never a good thing when it comes to this stuff ) that since I'm using the 0.5 for weeks on my kbox with no problems that the RBA wouldn't be an issue. However I should probably wait for the OCC 1.2 that is in question until I get the meter

I just wanted to add when I say re wick all I mean is I took the old cotton out and put in new cotton. I never messed with the coil. Thanks again

Yep, when in doubt, don't. :)

Well I love my face a lot! so I'm going to take your advice. I'm headed to a rather large vape store in a couple of weeks and my .5 OCC will hold me over until then.

Since I had you here I just wanted to ask if this was the only meter I needed to look for in regards to atomizer / coil resistance? Or do I need a multimeter

That (and similar, lots of makes and models) should do fine.

I use a DMM, so I can check my builds as I go, and can use it to check battery voltage as well, but the dedicated vape ones work, too. (And do provide a nice platform to hold the base while you're mounting the coil.)
