First I will apologize in advance for a very noob question. I am trying to get into rba and exploring my options.

I was looking at this which is a premade wire : $3.25 Pre-made Welded Wires - NR-R-NR (100-Pack) 100-pack - 0.18mm (33 AWG) / 2.2ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

My question is what is this used for? How is this different than a kanthal wire I would use to make my coil? I thought you just buy a roll of kanthal wire and roll it around a wick? Does this have any advantages? Please help! Thank you

You can buy different resistance premade NR-R-NR wires from Stormy's Vapor Cellar and avoid shipping from fastech. As to why, several new and older atty's recommend/require the tails of the coil to be non resistive so as not to produce heat in areas where it is not wanted. Hope this helps.

The wires are used for Odysseus and Ithaka type attys. The kanthal piece is to be wrapped around the wick, and the NR pieces are to be wrapped around the appropriate posts. I have a clone, and I absolutely love it!

I use these wires on my protank builds. Helps to not melt the rubber grommet.

Is ready wire different than just regular wire to make a coil? Thank you!

Non-resistance wire does not provide resistance, therefor it does not get hot. Those wires have resistance wire (in the middle, blackened) that you wrap around your wick and then wrap the non-resistance wires around the positive and negative posts. This means only your wick is being heated and not the posts.

I had a light bulb go off of my head after rereading all your helpful replies in this thread. So to summarize:

Some attys require a coil to be made up of NR-R-NR wire which is classified as pre made wire in the first link i posted. However if I just bought a roll of kanthal (not the premade), would I be able to make something like the NR-R-NR on my own? Also for the attys that suggest the NR-R-NR, how would I know which type of wire it requires? Does it specifically say it needs NR-R-NR?
