Keep it simple. eleaf istick is great . I'm on 2 years on it and it's still great. 30 watts is fine if you do not sub ohm vape. Then get a simple Aspire atomizer with a 510 connector. I'm talking about something people may call a vivi nova . Or an Aspire BVC. Then get BVC coils with ohms from 1.5-2.8. I like 1.8. that's that. Adjustable watts, and something easy to replace and works great. The other atomizers are more complicated and I'm not crazy about them.

Thank you for your reply and your opinion on the Eleaf, seminolewind. I really DO need to keep it simple for now - still too much of a noob.

There's nothing wrong with the eGo One - seem like a pretty decent, good-looking mod. I don't consider the iStick to be enough of an upgrade over the eGo to be worth getting TBH, and I'd also stay away from built-in battery mods going forwards.

I'd think about getting something like a cheaply-priced VTC Mini on closeout or you can get a Pico or the OEM version for around USD$30.

Then you'd just need some 18650 batteries (at least 2 to start with) and an external charger and then you'd be set or mods.

The Pico/VTC would make a great main mod, and the eGo One would be a good 'out and around' mod, especially with a tank like the Kayfun 3 on it - the combo looks fantastic IMO, and provides a fantastic vape.

Hmmmm.... interesting thoughts, Continuity! I'm hoping the eGo One works well for me and yes, I thought it would be good for "on the go". I'm seeing the same names coming up here - VTC mini and Pico... this may be the way I go. Need to keep it simple for now. And yes I need some batteries - must not forget to order those too. Thanks for your great reply! I really do appreciate it.

try dual using ( having that ciggie when things get rough)... trying to quit smoking cold can be really tough even if vaping is involved...

my favorite setup is the IPV4 or IPV5 with an RSST dual coil ( requires rebuilding coils)... been using this setup for about 3 yrs
( works for me) :)

Yikes - I'm afraid to do that! I would have to buy a pack of cigs and I'm pretty sure I would smoke the whole pack pretty fast if I did. :( Then I would have to change my banner too. The last couple of days were bad but I think I may have turned a corner.

Thank you for your suggestion of the IPV4 or 5. I see they take 2 batteries - this has become a serious consideration for me as I don't want to keep changing batteries all day long. This unit I have is not lasting the whole day now and I know it's only going to get worse. I'll keep the RSST dual coil in mind for the future - I wish I was ready to plunge in and start rebuilding my own coils but I think I'll need time to fully check it out before I go that route. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!

I feel your pain @ceeceeisme , I've been vaping a year now and I my head still spins when considering new devices. (I'm a fellow Canuck btw...hello!)

It can be terribly confusing when first starting down the vaping trail. I agree with many previous suggestions and understand you are on a budget. Me too.

So, from a pretty new vaper and one who does not (yet!)build my own coils, here's my 2 cents...

My first e-cig was an eGo ONE, I bought a second one about 2 weeks after my first purchase. Although I experienced a learning curve with the coils, it got me off the cigs...in about a week. It's easy, "plug and play", no fiddling with wattage/voltage. It's a great "out and about" little device and in my opinion, produces pretty darn good flavour and vapor!

I've been using 2 istick 30W for months and they were an easy step up from my eGo ONES.

I also have a Coolfire IV paired with a Nautilus Mini...I quite like this set-up. The Nauti Mini is touted as being a good MTL tank, although at first, I found it very airy...even on the tightest setting. The Coolfire IV is available with external batteries so that may be something to consider (for future use?).

I've been looking at the Pico lately, it looks pretty great and the reviews have been good.

In a nutshell...something "plug and play", something with variable voltage/wattage and maybe a 3rd; a device with external batteries.

Thing is, vaping is a very personal experience. I completely understand working with a budget makes choices difficult. However, if you get 2 or 3 devices/tanks you'll not only have back-ups, you'll hopefully find what works for *you*.

While waiting for your order to arrive from China (*sigh*)you may want to zip into a nearby vape shop and pick up a simple eGo ONE. Mmm-hmm, Canadian prices are insane!

I wish you the very best of luck. Don't give up! You will find what works for you. Give it a little time.

Cheers!

You sound like a true veteran juskiddin! I like how you have several devices and are still looking at more.... lol... this is going to be me too.

As for zipping out to grab something like an eGo One... nobody really has much low end stuff around here ... not in stock anyway. I saw a Joyetech AIO for $40 CDN and I only paid $20 CDN for mine so I wasn't interested in paying double for something that was already not working for me. I may just zip across the border to the NY side and see what I can see. Who knows.

"A true veteran"...:lol::lol: oh my, that made me chuckle (please know I'm not poking fun at what you said). I am anything but a veteran :) I am a definitive, boo boo-making newb as far as I'm concerned.

I know what you mean about shops not stocking much in the way of beginner/intermediate stuff. Unfortunately, many shops cater mostly to cloud-chasers/sub-ohmers. I feel like that's a disservice to clientele and the shops themselves. Attracting new business should be part of their plan.

A quick trip across the border sounds like a good idea. I don't think "we" are allowed to bring e-juice back across though. Just a heads up.

Cheers

lol... no offence taken I assure you.

Yup I just spent the afternoon driving around the Niagara region looking for a vape shop with decent prices and I can tell you they don't exist on the Canadian side of the border. Most everything under the $90 CDN price point was out of stock. I cruised over to the Rainbow Bridge to see what the line up to the US looked like and it was BAAAAAAAADDDDD. At least a 1.5 hour wait just to cross (darned Labour Day weekend). Thanks for the heads up on the e-juice... if I went over to the US side I'm sure I would be tempted to stock up on juice as that is pretty expensive here too.

Things are going drastically south for me here today. My Joyetech AIO is now not even working very well with the genuine overpriced coils I bought. My upper lip has multiple small e-juice burns and I am getting pretty frustrated. On top of it every vape shop I went in to had a small crowd of youngsters (yes that would be people under 40) blowing giant clouds around me as I looked forlornly on. A pack of smokes is looking pretty good right now. :(

I don't know what version of the ego one you are getting, but I like the original ego one style tanks. I use the clr coils which are pretty cheap and are also rebuildable. Those fit in several tanks like the tron-s, the 3 sizes of ego one tanks.

I would also recommend the toptank or subtank. I have the subtank and normally use the rba head (to rebuild my own coils) but also keep some factory made around.

I got the eGo One VT 2300mah. Don't know what clr coils are yet but you've got me interested lol.

Your ego one should come with 3 coils...
  • 1.0 ohm Kanthal CL Atomizer Head
  • 0.2 ohm Ni200 CL-Ni (Nickel) Atomizer Head
  • 0.4 ohm Ti CL-Ti (Titanium) Atomizer Head
The CLR is similar to the CL except it is meant to be rebuildable. It is used only on wattage mode.

Oh.... I just checked the listing and yes it does. Ah.. one is titanium, one is nickel and one is stainless steel (?). This is so I can try different levels of ohms, I assume, to see which one I like best.

When I bought this unit I didn't know what I was doing (it looked good from downtown and the price was right as I only paid $15 USD for it including shipping).

I still don't know what I'm doing lol.

Oh jeez, you poor thing - burnt lip? Noooo :(
I just did a quick google for trouble shooting AIO. The results may or may not be helpful.

Did your device come with different coils? I read about someone with the same problem (burnt lip)and it was suggested they try the 1.0ohm coil. Are you chain vaping? Maybe try letting the device rest a little in between draws. Chain vaping can make a unit hot. Also, you may want to try a different drip tip (mouth piece). Although this would involve another trip to a vape shop (sigh...those derned "youngsters" :) ) it may help to get a longer drip tip; so your mouth won't be as close to the device when taking a draw. Make sure it fits though before buying. I've switched out the drip tips on a couple of my tanks. I like the "ming" style for example. No metal drip tips! - they can get hot.

Sure hope you find a solution.

I let my lips rest overnight and they're good this morning :)

No, this AIO only came with 0.5 ohm coils and the vendor offered 0.6 ohm as replacements (which I bought and they turned out to be the clones that are not working very well at all). The local vape shop only had packages of 0.5 ohms (at least they were genuine Joyetech), which I bought and do work better than the clones but still, I'm having problems. All the vape shops I visited yesterday were the same.

Am I chain vaping? Oh yeah, maybe. "Power vaping" I call it. lol I don't know why my first week to 10 days of vaping went so well then all of a sudden I got powerful nic cravings. So yes, I am putting it down and trying not to do that. Also I remembered that the place I bought the unit from had sent me a free art glass tip that is almost 2" long and has a very narrow inside diameter. I dug it out and tried it and lo and behold! it does help when the spitting gets bad so there is some improvement here this morning. When it gets really bad I have been doing wee tiny DTL hits with a quick press of the button. This helps too but at that point I really need to set it down and let it cool off for a while. I don't like the DTL hits very much but where you're having a nic fit it's better than no hits at all.

So that was all great advice and I thank you! The real solution is to get a couple of better units so I don't run into a bind like this again. Also, if I can find some of those 1.0 ohm coils it might actually make this unit usable after all.

Put the currency in context. A Sigelei Spark costs me about 10 loaves of high quality bread (good stuff). Stuff that is organic, doesn't mold the day you bring it home, etc. With 3 oz of silver, I could buy 2 sparks. A subtank mini on Ebay goes for 1 oz.

Agreed! Context always matters.

"Powerful nic cravings..." Yup, me thinks that's pretty on par with quitting the smokes. This is where having a couple of tanks will be useful. When you have a couple of tanks, you will be able to fill one with a higher nic juice for those cravings and keep another with a lesser amount of nic, say, for all day vaping.

Works for me! :)
