Hello,
I'm relatively new to this forum.
I've made an introductory post in the new members forum. Thanks for the replies and kind words.

Anyway... after experimenting with a few different devices, I found one that works well for my style of vaping/smoking.

I would like to make the transition to vaping, but my problem is I keep getting head-aches, almost immediately during vaping. I've tried higher VG juices, higher PG juices, different flavours (tobacco and fruit) and both nic salts & freebase nic. None of these changes seem to fix the problem.

I get a headache generally on the forehead which moves to the side of my head roughly 1/2 and hour after not vaping.

Cigarettes do not cause this discomfort, it's only when I vape. The headaches usually last quite some time as well.

Furthermore, I've been vaping off and on for at least 4-weeks now, thinking maybe my body will adjust... but alas it has not.

I've read other posts... and yes I drink a ton of water, I get plenty of exercise and I'm a relatively healthy person, despite my 5-8 cigarette a day addiction.

I honestly don't know what it could be.

Perhaps I'm just one of the unlucky few that can't handle either PG or VG.

If anyone had any experiences similar to this, please let me know. It'll be very difficult to replace cigarettes with vaping if I constantly get headaches.

Many thanks,
Mike

In order to isolate what may be causing the problem, you need to change only 1 element at a time. I would start with lowering the mg I am vaping and give it time to see if the adjustment makes a difference. More than just a day or two. If not, then cut way down on vg and give that time to see if that helps. Do that with each element in the ejuice. It could be just the flavoring itself, but you won't know without a process of elimination.

Have you tried vaping 0 nicotine and no flavors yet? Try straight VG, straight PG, and see what happens. If those are both fine, try adding in nic starting very low. Headaches can be a sign of nicotine overload. Honestly though, without knowing your device and nicotine level, it's hard to say definitively it's the nicotine although that would be my first suspect.

I know it sounds odd, but I started out with a 0.15 coil and 12 mg/ml nicotine. That was my first post on this forum, "Why do I feel so SICK?" With that said, I also had a PG sensitivity, but mainly my issues at first was I was VAPING like I smoked on a setup not designed for that with my nicotine WAY too high.

Also, drink more water. Just do it.

Hello Everyone, thanks for your comments.

The current device I'm using is a Eleaf iCare 2 - 1.3 ohm coil with 15 watts MTL device. I've also tried using the My Von Erl, Kangertech Top EVOD and Joytech eGo AIO.

Juices I've tried with PG/VG/Nic ratios are as follows:
Canadian Tobacco Blend 70/30/8
Georgia Peach 30/70/4
Vanilla 70/30/4
Mango 30/70/12 salts
with the MVL it was a tobacco pod 50/50/18
Bae Bacc 30/70/18

Tonight I tried a blueberry 20/80/0 and still got the headache... so it's probably not the PG or the VG or it might be both :( I know it's not the nicotine, as I've sampled juices with 0 nic.

I don't vape heavy, I might take the odd pull - - usually 5 drags every couple of hours, but the headaches come rather quickly.

I thought maybe nic salts would solve the issue, but it failed as well.

So that's what I've tried. There is a good chance that this just doesn't work for me, and I have a lot of gifts to give my friends ;) but yah... it would be nice to find something to replace ciggies.

Anyway, that is what I've tried so far.

I suspect it's the PG is messing with your sinuses, try a juice with no PG.
I tried a juice that was 80 VG, no nic, and it still had the effect.
My best on only guess at this point is it's some of the flavorings.
The juice I've had the best luck with so far is the Bae Bacc at 30/70/18. It's a tobacco strawberry blend, but I find it's the one that gives me the most mild of headaches.

Hello and Welcome to the forum!

I had something very similar happening with me the first few weeks of vaping after putting down the cigarettes. I thought maybe it was too much nicotine since I was vaping way more than I smoked.

It wasn’t until I saw a post by Anna I believe that discussed dehydration from vaping. I did a bit of research and sure enough vaping can cause dehydration. I won’t get into why. You can google it if you want to.

Bottom line is that I bought a case of water and drank it throughout the day. I normally never drink water or much of anything so I was having to pee a lot lol! But my body’s gotten use to it now. And of course my headaches are gone.

Viola :) Hope this helps you.

Yes Sara. Good catch......Since his last post says the headache is coming after putting the vape down, I suspect not only some dehydration, but I think everyone has discounted the symptoms of cigarette withdrawal.
Nic from ecigs are absorbed through the mouth, nose and throat, not like a cigarette at all which goes straight into your lungs. It takes longer to get the same amount of nic using ecigs because of this. Because of the properties of pg/vg(which draws moisture from our mouth, nose and throat to produce the vapor itself) do tend to dry out the muscus membranes therefore drinking more liquid not only helps the vaping to be easier but also helps to flush out those toxins from cigarettes.

Since @NeonH1 has indicated that the least headache comes from the highest nic mg, odds are he is not replacing the nic that he had when smoking cigarettes.

:)

Hey guys, thanks again for your input.
TBH I doubt it's dehydration as I always drink a fair amount of water.
I'm 100% sure it's not cigarette withdrawal as I'm still smoking cigarettes (I was never a heavy smoker - - usually between 5-8 a day, unless vacationing)
So... it's most likely either a sensitivity to the liquids or perhaps it's a sinus irritant to me.
I'm going to stop vaping for a while, clean out my sinuses with a neti pot and give it a shot again in a month.
It could be that I'm one of the unlucky few who can't vape.
Anyways, thanks again for all of your input.
Take care,
Mike

You can do that, certainly. Or, you could try the many, many suggestions given in this thread. If you don't isolate ingredients one by one, I'm doubtful that returning in a month will offer you significant change.

It doesn't really matter what your water intake IS. I take lithium and I drink water non-stop due to dry mouth. I still had to up it when I started vaping, at least until my system adjusted.

I think it's a good idea to maybe take a break, but really, follow some of the suggestions given if you start back up. What is the point of seeking advice and then ignoring all of it? Not trying to be mean, but that is LITERALLY what you have done.

Hello Anna,
You are absolutely right. I will try the process of elimination when I start back up in a month. I didn't want to send the impression that I was ignoring what people of said. It's just that I've been lurking around for a month and trying the various suggestions I read on other posts regarding headaches. \\
I do appreciate all the suggestions, and I will make an attempt at re-analysing what the cause could be.
Cheers,
Mike

Sounds crazy, but I would sometimes get headaches using too tight MTL devices.

Hello, and thanks for your post. Many have suggested trying a device with an airier draw, which I have done. It didn't fix the headache problem, but I did find a device I enjoyed using more than my previous devices. At the moment, I'm very happy with the e leaf i care 2. It has a airy MTL draw, doesn't misfire and doesn't spit back.
I actually really liked the tight draw on the "my von erl" but the spit back was terrible.
