Actually there is a bit of leeway regarding how fast the heat builds up.

A .6 coil of 28g will rip
a .6 coil of 25g will be slow to overheat

The amount and type of wire comes into play on tuning a mechanical mod just as much as resistance does.

I like that your being cautious and trying to learn. I think you will do well at rebuilding.

Let us know what happens and how it works out.

And make sure to keep askin cause we are happy to keep answering.

As was mentioned, please get a ohm reader. Especially for using a mechanical mod. Trust me, you don't want to short out a mechanical. I had it happen to me and I'm telling you, you just wouldn't even believe how fast the mod Can heat up. I'm talking a split second so hot you can't touch it bare handed! Please don't risk it and use your ohm reader EVERY build!

Okay. I do not know about the gauge cause its pre wrapped and it dint say the gauge on it. I can buy a DMM real quick and search youtube on how to use it. Seems easy!

If there is a bad connection or it is shorting the ohm reader won't read it right? I really want to rebuild asap cause then i can control it and wrap whatever i want and yes i will keep asking and thanku all for answering its a really big help reading all that u guys have to say.

I don't have an ohm reader and its gonna take 6-7 days for it to come as i have ordered online and I don't think i can wait..

And its a Patriot Rba

That build should be safe, if the coils are right, but there's no way of knowing if they're ok without measuring them. Just wait to get the ohm meter. If you can't wait that long, grab a digital multimeter from any hardware store or Walmart. You'll need one of those to measure your batteries, anyway, and it'll also tell you if your coils are ok.

Edit, yeah, either a dmm or an ohm meter will tell you if the coil is correct :)

Generally shorts cause the ohms to fluctuate drastically. Like if the ohms are bouncing between .2 and 1.2, it's VERY likely you have a short (or a post screw is loose).

Alternatively, I've seen shorts produce behavior where the ohm reader simply won't read the ohms at all. Either of these behaviors mean you need to re-assess, make sure coils aren't touching build deck, etc.

Howdy Keg1234, it might be a good idea to make a separate thread, as this OP's (original poster's) question has already been answered.

Just hop into the New Members Forum and just hit "Create Thread" -- I'm sure you'll get some responses (and quite frankly, I'm interested in what the potential answers are, or if there's even an issue at all).
