Hello everyone. It turns out I have eczema and PG is triggering it. I've recently bought a pod mod since its easier to carry around. The problem is that the juice I use consists %30 PG and it triggers my eczema which shows itself as rashes on my face -around the nose and cheeks- and my current creams that I use for eczema treatment seems to have so little effect.

So my question here is, is it okay to use %100 VG with salt nic? I see almost all of the juices for pods consist %30-40-50 PG and it confuses me. If it is okay to use %100 VG, I will start making my own juices from now on to prevent eczema from acting up.

I know flavors are PG based but compared to nicotine base with %70 VG + %30 PG, effects would be minimal since I will use %100 VG and a little bit PG from flavors. Maybe if I use 3 flavors in small amounts I will get to %90 VG + %10 PG which is not such a big deal. All I wonder is that since pods' system is a bit different, would coil and the cartridge will wear off sooner or have any negative effects. If yes, I will try to find a small mod where I can carry everywhere and leave the pod mod alone.

Hi and welcome,
You can use up to about 15% distilled water in any given mix.
Many pods work best at VG levels of 70% or less.
Have you considered PEG or propanediol?

Thank you :)

Yes, but they (PEG, PDO, Propanediol) are hard to find in my country (Turkey) since some law actions are being taken against them but I guess I will switch back to normal mod (a small one) and use %100 VG.

IF you use 15% water and 10% PG based flavor, the addition of another 5% of PG only results in a 15% total PG content and a 70% VG content that may work acceptably in some Pod devices.

Is mixing vegetable based glycerin with distilled water and nothing else safer in regards to health risks? Should it be a mix of 20% distilled water and 80% of the glycerin?
Hi Sandra,
Trial and error seems to support a max of ~15% distilled water added to 100% Vegetable glycerin. (Less water if using AVG)
What device are you using?
Do you intend to vape only VG and water without nicotine or flavoring? Why?

Cheers

Are you sure PG is causing allergy and it's not a coincidence only? PG and VG are possibly a component of eczema creams (all creams actually). Both are good moisturizers and good for eczema and skin in general.
Although allergy is possible to any chemical, allergy to pg is v. v. seldom (extraordinarily rare) reported before vaping started despite the fact that pg is in so many products around: meds, cosmetics, toothpaste, foods ...etc
My guess you have a worse than usual bout of eczema (or maybe a different skin condition). Maybe time to see doc.

If you still want to avoid pg, you probably need to add 10-15% DW. Some flavor concentrates are VG based. You might want to explore these. Pod systems don't wick high vg juice well, so you might need to change your setup and possibly reduce your nicotine . salts are ok with 100% vg.

Thanks for your reply. I was inquiring in behalf of my husband as I don't smoke myself. He had a heart attack 6 years ago from smoking cigarettes and also has impaired circulation in his legs. He's been smoking e-cigarettes since then without nicotine as he can't have nicotine based on the above. He is worried that what is in the flavoring now might harm him so he thought if he used the VG mixed with distilled water that it would be safer for him. Thanks for your input on the 15% mix with distilled water. He will try that.

Hi,
Izan will probably reply later, but I'll chime in.
Very hard to imagine VG and water can have any side effect. No reason to suspect otherwise. But no long term research was done (Just like no long term research was done for many things we inhale and eat)
If this is what keeps him off cigarettes, then definitely encourage him to keep using it. If VG doesn't cut for him and there is a chance he might go back to smoking, flavorings might be added (Menthol?)
We max out at 15% because any more will water down flavors. So let him feel free to bump that as long he likes the taste.
Welcome to ECF.
Please defend our right to vape. We don't smoke ;)

Be certain about it. PG sensitivities are like gluten allergies—fads, with most (but not all) cases being strictly imaginary. You stand to cause yourself a lot of inconvenience if you're wrong, since few pod systems can accommodate such thick e-liquid. Yes, if the liquid doesn't flow properly then your coil will not stay adequately saturated and will scorch and fail early.

Actually I am not so sure about if rashes are from PG. That's why I am going to get tested especially for PG. A lot of things can trigger eczema such as stress. Maybe it was just my body's reaction to quit smoking. I was having a lot of stress. If that is the case -I am allergic to PG in fact- I will switch back to my normal mod and use a liquid that contains so little PG. I really do not want to go back to smoking.
