I'm thinking about buying a Provari, but...

I love this thread, thanks to everyone who's contributed here. And, agreed about why new vaps are almost discouraged from getting the best straight away? Ive read a few testimonies where noobs started out with a provari and hadn't a single regret. I was encouraged to go the ego route, but I wish I'd have just gotten a provari to start. Im looking to buy one now, and without this thread I would've been lost. Now I just need to keep reading up on coil ohm and different variances to understand better how they will work in the provari.
There are good reasons for suggesting EGO style devices to people dabbling in vaping:
1) They may stick with it, they may find it's not for them.
2) They are OFTEN very price sensitive and telling them they need to drop a couple hundred on a mod would just keep them smoking.
3) I'd rather see them drop that $150-200 they save on juice and toppers so they can find one that works well for them.
4) In general, there are a lot of start-up costs, juice stocking, batteries, chargers, toppers.

Personally, I have almost 30 toppers and switch between them regularly. There are quite few differences in resistance there. When Provari can compete with the rest of the market by offering variable wattage, I'll buy two the day they are released. Until then, they're a good device but fatally flawed.

I am new also so can you tell me, with all of the options for the mini to use the larger batteries, does the choice between the mini and the regular come sown to cosmetics or am I missing something more??

You can make the mini longer, but can't make the regular ProVari shorter. Not everyone wants the largest mod available.

One with a smaller diameter would be nice. I don't need 14 hours of battery life. I'd rather have one as skinny as an EGo style battery, maybe a little thicker, but not much. I'd rather carry extra batteries than a thick mod.

And I thought the provari was already skinny...

You aren't missing much. Exact same internals.

I prefer the mini. I keep it short when going out, and I'm currently awaiting my extension cap for home use with my 18490s. I carry the mini and an extra 18350 in the watch pocket of my jeans and I'm good all day until I'm back home and near a charger.

It looks huge in videos.

I thought the same thing until I had one. It is wider than a twist, but it's also shorter. I guess perceived size is all in the eye of the beholder.

I like that tank, where did you get it?

It is a Cirrus Tank. Home - Cirrus Vapes

It rocks. This is the shorter version. You can get the tank by itself for around $45. The pyrex is super thick. They also make a drip tip that matches the contour of the tank perfectly, but its like $15 extra. I originally saw this tank on Grimmgreen's channel. They sell these locally in CA at a lot of shops. Im beginning to feel spoiled considering how accessible all of this vape stuff is becoming here.

How durable is the black paint? I have dropped my Triton batteries and have had them get loose in the car so many times, the coating on them is chipping off. Obviously there is no comparison in quality between the 2, but is the paint on the ProVari fairly durable?

From what I've gathered, the paint is actually a ceramic coating and it is baked on. It feels "bullet proof", just like the mod. i carry this thing in my pocket all day alongside my keys and whatever other junk is in my pocket. You can see from my pic that the paint looks pretty much new. There is a tiny bit of wear right along the edges of the tear drops where you can see the most microscopic amount of metal shining through.

I don't even think i could get it to show up in a picture, and its probably mentally unhealthy to stare at mods like i do.

I love my spinners and ego passthrough. I know when I get my Provari I'll probably use it almost all the time, but I sure won't take it out to a bar with me. The ego types are perfect for a night out, especially at 1300 Mah. I'll be glad to have both!....oops....I meant to be replying to the OP here.

I'll bet you a hot fudge sundae that after 2 weeks with the Provari, it will be accompanying you to the bar. Once you vape with one, you won't want to use anything else. It's that much better of a vape. ;)

I was going to say the same thing. It's seriously that good, and the difference in size becomes negligible REAL quick.

100% agree, whenever I use my other devices, I wish I had my Provari. I have Egos for out and about and a K100 mech for my RBA but planning on a Provari mini for my "vape on the go" and I actually prefer the Provari for RBA's. Absolutely worth every penny!

What I find curious in an annoying way is why ProVari bothered with a v2.5 when v2.0 is exactly the same. The outside (IMO) can't be worth $50-60 more.

I don't get what you are talking about. The two versions were the same price when new. Current base price for a Provari 2.5 is $159.95, as was the 2.0 when it was new.

2.0 Provari's are now in the clearance section discounted from $149 to $169 - depending upon add-on features such as body color (+ $20) or optional LED display colors (+ $15). http://www.provape.com/category-s/37.htm

Provape outsources the colored Provari's to an outside contractor to apply the carokote paint, not done in-shop. This additional expense to Provape is passed on to the consumer who desires that option. The same with the green & blue LED displays; these cost Provape more to purchase, so that additional cost to Provape is passed on to those consumers who desire that option. This business practice keeps the price of a "plain" Provari as low as possible.

Now, if you are talking about the new starter kit that Provape is offering for $209.95, you are getting two batteries, a charger, and a Protank with the kit. Provape never offered a starter's kit until just recently. You bought pieces individually.

Thanks Bad for the informative history lesson. I'm just entering my 4th week vaping and wouldn't have known all that; only what I see-- prices as they are now for v2.5 and v2.0 in clearance.
Without knowing they started off the same price (based on my thinking with most things tech) it "looks" like v2.0 was added to clearance when v2.5 came out.

Hope that clears up what I was talking about.

So, the i4 charger just arrived - I'm so happy that it got here BEFORE the Provari...it would have big time had the Provari gotten here and I had no way of charging it!

I've also ordered a bunch of tanks:

2 - Kanger Pro Tank Mini II
1 - IBTanked 22mm XL
1 - Innokin iClear 16 DCC
1 - Innokin 1Clear 30 DCC

I might also have bought a Vivi Nova 2.5 and a 2.5 Mini...not sure...so many orders right now.

I've finally built up enough juices to warrant the multitude of tanks. I'm not confident enough to get a Genny yet, but I have been saving my spent Protank atomizer heads to rebuild and I recently ordered some wick and wire to rebuild my SS A6 RDA. One step at a time, I reckon. Lately I've really been digging Boge XL cartos, so maybe I'll buy 5 boxes of those, too, for various flavors.

Am I on the right track? Am I overlooking anything?

One thing that I need to figure out is what wick and wire to buy. Can I use the same wick and wire for the A6 RDA, Protank, and Innokin, etc..., or do they all need different stuff? Is there an intro to wick and wire buying somewhere? I want to get used to this stuff first before considering going with a Genny.

Thanks for all of the great advice and useful help!
