Excellent suggestions in the thread. For me higher nicotine and leaving the vape further from me works. If I have it to close I will vape, so I put out of easy reach.

Your brain will let you know when to vape. If you drop the nic level you might find yourself vaping more often to get the same amount of nic. It takes a while to stabilize your nic level and vaping frequency. Higher nic levels will reduce your frequency, but you still have to exercise some restraint. If it's in your pocket you might find yourself vaping more often and consuming more nic per day.

After ten years vaping, I'm still wanting to vape like I smoked. There were restrictions on smoking at work and I had to go outside. Once I retired and started to vape I learned how to vape discretely in stores and other places. It's easy to vape more than you smoked just because you can do it in MTL mode without creating a scene, FWIW. I've vaped in stores and restaurants and never once has anyone told me I couldn't vape in their establishment except once in a Texas Roadhouse restaurant.

Setting it down out of reach often worked best for me (and others in this thread I see).

If it was in or near my hand, I'd be hitting it, often catching myself doing so unconsiously.

So, also vaping *consciously*, i.e. paying attention to the fact that you are vaping when you hit it, can help too.

As far as upping nic levels, this backfired spectacularly for me personally. The end result was vaping just as often, only at a much higher level of nicotine intake.

I agreed. Restrain is needed if not you might get nicotine sick and you will know it when feel nausea and your head starts spinning lol. I have done it

safe distance from a black hole
for me it came to just putting the vape down and walking away.
I dont carry a vape in my pocket and I dont take one with me where ever I go. There is really only two places I vape and if Im not sitting in those places Im not vaping. I have to stop what Im doing and go to where my vape is, so I generally work right through and save the vape for down time only.

Increasing nic didnt work for me when I was working my way through vaping less. Eventually my tolerance would increase and I would be vaping the same amount at a higher mg.
I got down to 3.5 ml of 3.5mg a day and reasoned that if I used 12mg or 13mg I should only use 1ml a day. Seemed like a sound idea but after about 3weeks I was back to using 3 or 4 ml a day. I had work my way back down to 3mg by reducing my tolerance all over again. It sucks spending time reducing your tolerance, well, for me it does.
Just quoting myself here. I kinda didnt finish the above thought and its been bugging me.

I dropped my nic levels and cut my overall consumption way too fast, for me.
If I could go back to the start of my vape journey I wouldnt have worked my way down in mg's and ml's quite so fast. Instead of dropping 3mg or more each step down I think dropping down in 1mg steps would have been a saner approach for me. I did cause myself some grief and anguish by dropping the way I did and after nearly 3 years vaping Im at 3ml to 4ml of 3mg-3.5mg which is where I wouldve been anyway if I had taken a more relaxed approach.
Im not thinking about dropping any further or vaping less than I am at this stage. If it happens it happens, Im actually thinking of increasing the mg's to 4mg for my next batch.

Just thinking back about when I started vaping in 2010 and used 24mg juice. I did that for a while and started to titrate downward. That level was perfect for me coming off 2 packs of cigs a day. In a short time (about 3 months) I started buying vendor juice at 18mg and went from there in steps down to 3mg. Eventually I started DIY juice and stayed at the 3mg level and I'm still there.

The key to quitting smoking is to start at the level that approximates your current cigarette nicotine level and work it down in steps over time.

When I was vaping 24mg juice I vaped less. I've been at 3mg doing DIY for 8 or more years and I find myself vaping more often. Still, I go through about two Kayfun tanks a day. That's 2x4ml for a total of 8ml juice a day. 8ml/day isn't that much for most of us. My problem is that my vape is in my pocket, in my hand, or sitting right beside me all day. That makes it too convenient. I'd be better off if I left it on the kitchen counter where I had to get up and walk to vape.

Next time I mix juice I'm going to mix up a bottle of 24mg just for kicks and see how long a hit of 24mg will last before my brain asks for more. :)
I tried 24pg only, once. Made me put the mod down right quick .

Stay busy. I go for hours without vaping. If i'm out cycling, which lasts over four hours, i don't vape at all. If i'm gaming, which can last all afternoon - when i'm done doing everything else, i forget about it, almost !, i'd have to pause the game to have a quick vape.

On the other hand, if i'm doing absolutely nothing, maybe it's raining so i'm stuck indoors, and i'm not in the mood for gaming and i also have nothing to do, i find myself vaping constantly, chain vaping all day long.

I don't keep myself busy to stop vaping. I just can't vape when i'm busy doing something else, or i simply forget about it.

I've been vaping 8-10 ml of 12mg nic for years. I tried lower nic, puff time and ml's increased proportionately. I increased nic, puffed the same and got a touch nic sick.

Part of the hobby is, vape where no man has vaped before. Great moment was in an empty court room on the way back to the jury room in a federal court house. I'm going in through security. The guard (former military) asks, what's this? I say, electronic cigarette. He hands it back. Another time I'm turned away from the door so I go to a different door wearing my jury badge. They let me pass with my rig. Jurors are gold, nearly irreplacable. I'm so discrete now I can take a puff just about anywhere and even if it's noticed nobody cares enough to make a fuss. Walmart is my Area 51.

I actually started at around 24mg's now down to around 8mgs. Its not so much the nicotine that makes me vape so much but the habit. With a lot of ecigs u can set how many puffs u have per day but they should make it so u can set the amount per hour, session, etc instead. I just sit there vaping non stop a lot of the time the nicotine change doesn't make a difference. I mean I suppose if the nicotine was really high like when I started I would get a nicotine overdose and feel sick but thats not the solution.

I have vaped in the Superior Court bathroom in Tucson and it was a bunch of stalls. It was empty, but still. I needed to. We were about to find out if the kid would get his felony expunged. He did.

I was not happy to be there.

The way I quit smoking was to delay delay delay my morning cigarette and just vape.

IDK if it's a reflexive inhale thing, you could have a few no nic setups and use those. I have always found substitution to be effective for a repetitive/addictive type behavior of the sort like smoking, drinking too much coffee, and vaping.

I mean, like opiates, you just gotta stop.

i'm not even sure what nic levels i use.
    probably around 20%

    1.8% by volume is 18mg/ml...

20% by volume would be 200mg/ml, (we don't usually even buy that strength for DIY nicotine base (most base is 100mg) )

Just a heads up on measurements.. your probably 2% by volume or so..

For me I keep a little pod device around with some 35mg nic salt liquid to supplement the 3mg I have in all my devices, when I feel like I'm vaping too much I just take two good pulls off the 35mg and put it down. That helps curtail my constant need to vape the 3mg.
That is actually a great idea :). Many vape pods are quite small so they don't take a lot of hassle to be carried out with your main vape. Plus it won't make your nicotine tolerance goes higher.

I started at 24mg nic juice strength. It was about right for my 2 pack a day habit. Earlier this year I mixed up some 18mg juice to see what happened. I got dizzy in two hits. That bottle got turned into multiple 3mg strength bottles.

Later on I entertained the idea of doing that again, but only taking one hit a few times an hour. It's on my list of things to try. I'd really like to vape like I smoked.

I only vape outside (don't have a choice) did the same when I smoked. When working, only vape on breaks. The only exception is I vape my little pod when "vooping" ;) Some days here it's over 100 deg F so I tend to vape less to get out of the heat. When I lived way up in the mountains it would get down to 10 deg F in the winter... also kept me from vaping too much.
