Experiment 1:

Blue Lotus Extract (Nymphaea caerulea)
69% PG
22% Blue Lotus Tincture (at 40%)
9% Cherry Brandy Essence (to cover up the horrid taste of the lotus extract)

Results:
Very good for a first try. Vapor was too low for my liking (need to find out how to get more vapor), but the affects were a little stronger than smoking the herb by itself. Gives a mild high after about ten minutes of vaping. The taste is not too bad, the Cherry essence covered up the lotus extract horrid taste well. I think the taste was about a 6/10.

If you guys have any ideas on how to increase the amount (without losing more lotus extract) of vapor please tell me.

I think this one test is all I need to do to complete this thread. The theory and idea is confirmed for me, meaning it works. This can really be done with any herbs that the actives are extracted by alcohol. Have fun with it guys. By all means keep this thread going with your own tests! (and how to get more vapor doing it this way)

If you are trying to find the right herb for you, just keep searching. There are many cool plants out there.

EDIT: I just wanted to mention that I feel pretty happy with the whole experiment. After the first try, it was everything that I was aiming for (except the amount of vapor). That sort of thing does not happen very often.

EDIT 2: Through playing with different tinctures, if I get something that is greatly different from the above, I will post it.

somewhere out there......
well done....there are a lot of herbs people could use this for instead of taking it orally....the only issue i see is how the lungs will react. I just hope your extracts do not contain any bacteria....so be very careful when doing this and make sure you use a very clean surface, utensils, and mixtures.

Use more VG in exchange for PG

Know of any good easily browse-able sites that have info on herbs?

Both PG + alcohol are going to kill bacteria

Definitely try using some VG instead of PG for more vapor. I have vaped straight VG and while there is no flavor and little throat hit, the vapor is INSANE.

By VG you mean Vegetable Glycerin? I have some of that so I can definitely try that. Just from reading forums most people seem to like PG (which I just obtained today)

Also, what's with the tincture (at 40%)? Does that mean you are pre-diluting it? If so, you could skip the dilution and add more flavoring.
Well I do many of my tinctures now days are at 50%. 50% alcohol is best for most herbs I find. It all depends on the herb and how the active ingredients are best absorbed. *hint* Maybe you could stick the tincture in the microwave for a short period of time after it is ready? The flavor can easily be made better. It is the vapor that I am more concerned about, so next test will probably be all glycerin, and then maybe a mix between the two. I still don't know why no one has replied to my thread on minimum amount of PG/Glycerin in the DIY section. It would be interesting to find that out. It could give me more to work with.

This base test was at 40% alcohol because that is what I had lying around six weeks ago.

*Please be aware that I have no idea if this is doing any damage to the atomizer by heating up the alcohol*

There are also alcohol free tinctures and organic alcohol tinctures that are made with VG which could serve 2 purposes for you mix...I make and have been vaping herbs for many months now and I use the organic whenever available...You will find these almost double in price which gets a little expensive but its much cheaper than smoking and considering the possible health benefits could be considered priceless to many....I am currently testing a sleepy time vape that I have been using for several weeks, with Valerian,Melotonin and Damiana...The Valerian Root has a VERY pungent flavor that is almost impossible to conceal, but it is extremely effective in this concoction...The taste isnt so bad but definatley not to be confused with pleasent!!!!

Just because I love you guys I decided to give a present to you; experiment number two:

Experiment 2:

Blue Lotus Extract (Nymphaea caerulea)
50% Glycerin
45% Blue Lotus Tincture (at 40%)
5% Cherry Brandy Essence (to cover up the horrid taste of the lotus extract)

Results:
I have lots of vapor! Plus europhic affects have significantly increased. Taste goes from a 6/10 to a 5/10. Still, even only being 5/10, it is still very satisfying to vape this. It feels a little like smoking a cigarette that someone else gave you from a brand that you do not usually buy (Why on earth should I use PG when Glycerin gives so much vapor? Glycerin seems to me the better go) To end with, I must say that this mix gives a MUCH better throat kick. Who knows how good this is on the atomizer, but it certainly vapes like a pro! There is vapor all around which is what I want (mentally). LOL at stupid mental hangups.

But serious question as asked above. Why should I use PG when Glycerin gives so much more vapor?

EDIT: I must say that this 2nd batch makes the first batch a throw away (pour down the sink). Thank you for the great suggestion Fredrick. I am sure my atomizer will love me for it. Breaking down 45% of the ethanol must be tough on it, but it does not seem to get too hot, so that is good.

So:

30% VG
65% Blue Lotus Extract (40%)
5% Cherry Brandy Essence?

If that would work (and would not kill the atomizer) this stuff could get someone high....

EDIT: Plus, please explain to me what you mean by "wick as well".

If you're filling up a cartridge with filler, it won't move as well to the wick on the atomizer with just VG.

You can keep the blue lotus at 45%, just do 30%VG, and another 20% PG if youve got it

But with this much vapor (and very little cost) why not just keep dripping to the cartridge if it stops vaping as well as you want it to?

I started a rosemary tincture today. This will be perfect for vaping if I get a cold. I think tomorrow I'll try the valerian root / passion flower / chamomile /melatonin tincture mix... might have to play around with that one for a bit. But it would be great to use at night time.

Another way to get things more potent is to just add more alcohol to the tincture, shake it up twice a day for 2-4 weeks, strain into a bowl and put a fan over it for 2 days... that will make it nearly industrial strength if not better.

There are definitely a million other herbs and combinations that can be used for all kinds of ailments. By making a tincture we can use them in our personal vaporizers. But be careful with doses for sure, you might pass out and wake up wondering what happened.
