I'm 48 and have been smoking about 1 1/2 packs a day of (most recently) Parliament Menthol (lights) for the past 32 years. I found this board last week and read for over 2 days the various posts on e-cigs, and decided to give vaping a try, since every other effort to quit smoking has been a bust for me.

To test the waters, I ordered the Apollo disposable cigarette which received very good reviews throughout this forum. Based on my normal brand and a chart I found online, I chose the Medium strength nicotine. I was so excited to get it and say goodbye forever to analog cigarettes.

But once I got it, I was not as blown away as I thought I would be. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I have to inhale so hard just to get anything and my nicotine cravings are not going away at all. I tried everything I read here (vape for 10 minutes, resist the urge to smoke analogs, give the vape nicotine time to get in the bloodstream), but still no luck.

After reading many more posts tonight, I see that many of you recommend not using the disposables or even the standard e-cigs that look like cigarettes, but rather a mod or something similar. Some of you also say it's better to mix your own nicotine formula. Also, some of you recommend ProVari, Volt and Ego. Honestly, I am getting confused with all the differing opinions.

So I decided to post a few questions that I hope someone can answer -

(1) Am I expecting too much from e-cigs? With so many success stories on this forum, I really had high hopes.
(2) Is it always so hard to inhale the e-cig, or did I (maybe) just get a crappy one?
(3) Should I get the "High" level of nicotine instead of the "Medium"?
(4) How do you know when it's done? I've been sucking on this thing for four days now and I still get smoke coming out. I thought it was supposed to last for only about 2 packs worth? I think I already got at least 4 packs worth.
(5) I don't mind spending $$$ to get a good e-cig, but I really don't want to have to try 5 or 6 different brands before I find one that works for me. For example, the Provari was highly recommended by some, but hated by others. At almost $200 to try it, that's a bit much for something that might not work for me. I know myself - I'll get frustrated and just go back to analogs. So I really need someone to tell me EXACTLY what to buy that would be the best for me - one that has a really high success rate, is easy to inhale, satisfies my cravings and will help me quit analogs forever. If I have to make a mod, please tell me the exact parts to buy. Also, if possible, please tell me the best place to get them (links if possible).
(6) I don't really want any sweet or fancy flavors, just regular menthol with nicotine like I smoke now. I seem to be ok with PV (no allergies), so if you could also steer me in the right direction for getting a good mix at a decent price, that would be appreciated. I don't think I'm ready to mix my own just yet, so a link to a good mix would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading this far and sorry to ramble on. But I am very disappointed so far and feel like I may never be able to quit analogs, and at my age and years of smoking, I know it will be the death of me. I am nearing the 1 year anniversary of my father's death, who died from smoking related causes after 50 years of smoking (he quit for the last 7 years, but it still did him in.) Thanks for any assistance you can give me. :(

I smoked 1 1/2 packs a day for 12 years. My first bit of advice is dont give up. Vaping is a different experience for everyone. It takes time and some money to find what works for you. I tried a few things but long story short I didnt actually stop smoking cigs until I got an ego twist paired with a 306 atty and 18mg nicotine juice.

I got the twist and the 306 atty with a cannon drip tip from altsmoke.com. I have been getting my juice from mtbakervapor.com. If you are concerned with not enough nicotine you can try the 24 or 36mg juice but i find it to be to much because most of my habit is constantly vaping. The 18mg takes care of my craving but allows me to vape as much as I want without getting ""nic sick".

Just keep trying out different things. Check out youtube videos by GrimmGreen and GeekGirlVaper. They have good quality reviews and answer almost any question you might think to have. Don't beat yourself up if you don't find your setup right away. I've found that in the vape scene you get what you pay for and for the most part you wont be happy with many devices that look like cigs.

Look through these forums for support, information, vendors, what works and what doesnt. Keep in mind it may take some time to find a device that satisfies your craving but keep at it and I Garuntee you WILL find something. With a capitol "G" =)

(1) You are expecting much from devices that are somewhat inferior especially for a heavy smoker.
(2) Different devices have different draw strengths. Some are an easy "airy" draw. Some have a stiffer draw. Watch reviews and eperiment. You will find something that you like.
(3) Again thats very personal. No one could really answer that but you and your own feeling of fullfillment. I would suggest with what you were smoking atleast 18mg or 24. Get a few different strengths. Also with a tight draw a little vapor you wont feel satisfied with your vaping experience no matter the level of nicotine.
(4) Those devices imo are just shat. With a clear tank you can see if you have liquid left. With an atomizer and the dripping method you will literally taste when its time to add 2-3 more drops.
(5) My suggestion that worked for me (i ordered a provari but mostly for the quality and battery life); AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | AltSmoke.com | eGo-C Twist Battery may want to get two if you vape alot and dont have the patience to wait for charging cycles the 1000mah battery last about 8-10 hours and im a pretty heavy vaper, AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo Series - USB Battery Charger - Chargers - Accessories you will need this to charge you battery because if you buy the 1000mah one it doesnt come with a charger there is also a wall adapter if you dont want to use just the usb feature, AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | 306 - v2 Low Resistance Atomizers - Atomizers - Accessories i found has better vapor production and flavor than a 510 but the 510 has more options for drip tips your choice. Just make sure if you get a atomizer you get the appropriate drip tip. 510 and 306 respectively. These are for "Dripping". You put in 2-3 drips of liquid and vape. When the flavor is diminished or it tastes burnt its time to put in 2-3 more drops. OR you can get AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Vision Clearomizer - AltSmoke I've used these and they are satisfactory. They are more convienient in that you dont have to constantly drip into them but in my opinion have less vapor and taste than an atomizer. These come in many different shapes and sizes just make sure you get a "510" compatible tank if thats what you want to do. The other option i've tried with my twist and thought was better flavored but not as convinient as the tank is AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer. My wife prefers the dual coil cartomizer it all comes down to personal preferance. I would honestly get one of each and see what you like they are all fairly cheap. USA Made Nicotine Juice, E Juice, E Liquid, Electronic Cigarette Juice This is where i get my juice. We use 50pg50vg blend at 18mg and find that it works best for us in the devices i've listed here. They have many many flavors. My wife likes the coffee and tobacco flavors. I prefer the fruit and drink flavors. Get the smaller bottles and try a few out and get varying levels of nicotine til you find what suits your needs.
(6) Answered most of this above. I can say that I was a menthol cig smoker exclusively. The "Menthol" liquid i find is much stronger than I'm used to but enjoyable. If it's to strong I would suggest extreme ice. Despite the name its similar to menthol but not as strong with the "breath mint effect". I find though that i dont smoke the menthol flavors as much as i've found flavors i like more and dont feel the need for the menthol effect as im satisfied with my vaping experience.

I hope all this has helped. I want to state that in no way am i affiliated with either of these two companies. You may be able to find better prices etc with other vendors but I've used these two sites and can attest to a good experiene with shipping/customer service with both. My main thing and best advice i can give is keep trying. If you relapse dont kick yourself. Give it some time and some money and try some things before you totally give up on vaping. I am happily cig free for 8 days and hold a very strong opinion that vaping is better than smoking by far and i've only begun my journey.

Happy Vaping

(1) Am I expecting too much from e-cigs? With so many success stories on this forum, I really had high hopes.

No you are not expecting too much but you need the right set up and juice for you.

(2) Is it always so hard to inhale the e-cig, or did I (maybe) just get a crappy one?

No its not hard I think you got a crappy one.

(3) Should I get the "High" level of nicotine instead of the "Medium"?

Yes get some 18mg and some 24mg liquid.

(4) How do you know when it's done? I've been sucking on this thing for four days now and I still get smoke coming out. I thought it was supposed to last for only about 2 packs worth? I think I already got at least 4 packs worth.

Usually you get a burnt taste when it is done.

If I have to make a mod, please tell me the exact parts to buy. Also, if possible, please tell me the best place to get them (links if possible).

I would suggest 2 twist batteries for you. Not sure what else to recommend with them. I use nova tanks they work good for me. (2 x twists batteries should cost you no more than $60. 2 x nova tanks no more than $25). I order from China so hopefully someone will give you some local links.

As I make my own juice this is hard for me to recommend a juice for you but you can buy from many vendors hopefully someone will give you a few to choose from. If none show up try Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Refill Liquid

They seem to have a great rep and are not too expensive for the refill liquid and have two types of menthol for you to try.

Finally welcome to ECF may your stay be a long one :)

1) vaping technique is a bit different to smoking technique. Take 3 slow vapes, enjoy flavor in mouth, inhale into lungs and breathe out. Think of it more like your grandad smoking his pipe in the garden on a sunday afternoon.

2) I think for 30 cigarettes a day you will need 24 mg nicotine for many of those "i NEED A SMOKE!!" moments. Also buy an 18 mg for home and maybe 12 for late evening so you don't go to sleep with a racing heart. You may well find you will vape all day, so I recommend the different levels.

EQUIPMENT: Buy these
1) eGo C Twist Variable Voltage Stainless (you need 2, 1 to charge, and 1 in use). Charge them up before first use.

2) Kanger T2 Rebuildable Clearomizer - Smoke (I'd suggest that you need 3-4 of these) Note that they are 2.3-2.6 "standard" or "regular" resistance. and they have replacement parts which are always nice to have on hand. If you get along with these, then buy the spares. But for now just get yourself 3-4. When received give them a "blow out" with tissue. Then put them on the battery. Press the power button on the battery for 2-3 seconds. repeat 2-3 times. Take a couple of pulls while holding the button down as above - but don't inhale This will clean any "primer" that may be in the atomizer (that's the bit that creates the vapor). And NOW you can fill your juice - only about 2/3 to 3/4 full or it will overflow into your battery and be messy and make you mad.

3) eGo/510 USB Rapid Charger - 420mAh Buy 2 - no point in starting vaping and you can't charge the batteries! I always recommend charging at the mains. Do not leave on charger after the light turns green (which indicates a full charge). Do not charge if not on premises, do not leave on overnight (that bit's just commonsense stuff really for handling a lithium battery).

That's your equipment. The battery has a dial on the bottom that allows you to turn the voltage up or down. Most people like the 3.8 - 4.0 voltage with a regular resistance clearomizer. The clearomizer is nice because it's a "fill n go". You can play with gadgets once you're really into vaping (and you will be eventually, don't worry!) Lastly you don't have to quit cold turkey. If you must have a smokey, then have one, but wean yourself off as you can and meanwhile count all the smokes you DIDN'T have.

JUICE: Hopefully someone can steer you to a good menthol but don't be shy about trying other flavors too. Whatever you like - coffee, fruit, tobacco flavors and so on. MOST IMPORTANT! Buy from a vendor on the forum like Rawr, Heathers Heavenly Vapes, Alice in Vapeland, Virgin Vapors. Buy quality sampler packs vs quantity in big bottles to start with. Most vendors offer sampler packs so you can try out several different flavors, and levels of nicotine to see what you like. Buy those first before committing to 30 ml bottles. Check vendors on forum for any coupon codes. I hope that's of help to you. We all love to hear about new vapers and I know there are many here who will be eager to help you on your exciting journey. Let us know how you get on.

I had the same habit that you had. Pack and a half a day for 35 years. The cig style got me down to half a pack a day. I bought an eGo twist and kicked the habit altogether. Since throat hit was the most important thing to me, I use 24 mg. I also found that the e liquid does not taste like tobacco, so I stopped trying to find one that tastes like a Marlboro. The e liquid tastes much better and I found that I don't need it to taste like tobacco. If you are a menthol smoker, try a mint flavor, but definitely get a more powerful batt and keep the small one for emergencies.

You've come to the right place. Just try not to get overwhelmed by all the info. There is a BIG learning curve with this vaping stuff.
While you're learning, stop off at Walgreens & pick up a $10 disposable Blu ecig. (NOT a kit!!!) The disposable is 24 mg nicotine & has a decent draw. Should last 1/2 - full day for you. When there's no more taste it's done.
Then get on ECF & figure out a good kit to order on Internet. You can get one for $50 or so. This will take care of things while you study some more.
Going straight to a ProVari is like going off to college when you haven't been to 1st grade yet.
Good luck. Keep us informed.

(1) Am I expecting too much from e-cigs? With so many success stories on this forum, I really had high hopes.

I've never used disposables but they seem to have a nearly universal poor reputation here on ECF. I haven't seen anyone recommend them as anything but an emergency measure if one runs out of supplies or has some sort of equipment disaster with no backup.

(2) Is it always so hard to inhale the e-cig, or did I (maybe) just get a crappy one?

Decent equipment and decent juice will provide more than adequate amounts of vapor to inhale. Absent other evidence I would vote strongly for "crappy".

(3) Should I get the "High" level of nicotine instead of the "Medium"?

You would probably do best starting out with 24mg or 18mg strength. I used 24mg at bedtime and upon waking. The rest of the day I did 18 mg. Now I'm strictly on 18 mg and have plans to reduce that soon. Vape often to maintain nicotine levels as vaping is slow to deliver nicotine to the body as opposed to the fast nicotine hit that cigarettes deliver.

(4) How do you know when it's done? I've been sucking on this thing for four days now and I still get smoke coming out. I thought it was supposed to last for only about 2 packs worth? I think I already got at least 4 packs worth.

It's probably long since out of any meaningful amount of juice.

I haven't seen posts from anyone who hates their Provari although a small number of people may prefer another device. Should you have any questions about using it there are tons of happy Provari owners here that will jump in to help. If you order a Provari and end up not liking it you should not have no problem selling it quickly.

A Provari is very reliable and will allow you to easily adjust it to the vapor level that you find most satisfying. If a Provari is within your budget I would expect you will be very satisfied with your choice to purchase one. The Provari has all the variable electronics built into an exterior case. When the battery can no longer be recharged you just buy a new battery. The ProVape people will help you with getting everything you need or you can ask here and someone will let you know.

I would suggest also buying couple of batteries that look like cigarettes with 510 threads and some refillable cartomizers. The batteries don't keep a charge for very long and only last a few short months but I found having the cig-alike form factor to twiddle with was quite helpful in reducing my stress when quitting cigarettes. If you find you don't need or care for them they are an inexpensive thing to donate to someone you like who would like to give vaping a try.

The eGo Twists and kGo models have variable voltage like the Provari. However, all the electronics are built into the battery. The batteries generally last a year or less but they aren't terribly expensive. These models are smaller than a Provari.

I have a cig-alike that got me off cigarettes. I now have variable Twists as well and plan to purchase a model similar to a Provari that isn't shipping yet. I have practical uses for all three form factors.

Don't rule out "fancy" flavors. I smoked 2+ PAD and alternate frequently between tobacco and other flavors. I find it keeps the taste of both fresh.

I'm not great at finding things on ECF with the search function but I did find this review for a brick and mortar store in Los Angeles. Many brick and mortar places allow their customers to sample juices before purchasing so you may want to consider that option.

If you wish to go the mail order route for juices stick with places that sell samples and order quite a few of them. Be a bit adventurous in choosing flavors. You will probably end up being surprised more than once about what you like and what you don't like. Menthol anything reminds me of Vicks Vaporub so I'm not much help there.

Your posts above have all been really helpful. Thanks for the links and suggestions. I am still hopeful that this may work for me and your replies give me new hope.

So I think I will get 2 ego-c twist batteries - one @1000mAh and one @650mAh (I think I may prefer the shorter length of the 650). I will also buy two chargers so I am always charged up. I'm thinking I will buy two atomizers (one 306 & one 510), two clearomizers and two dual coil cartomizers to start, along with 2 drip tips. A quick question - will this drip tip work with this 306 atomizer you linked to, Max? And I am guessing - I put the drips in the drip tip, put that over the atomizer and then screw the atomizer onto the battery? About how many puffs will I get from the drips in the atomizer? And the clearomizer and cartomizer do not need a drip tip and just screw onto the battery, right?

I will follow the instructions by HulaMoon to clean the Clearomizer. Do I need to do a similar cleaning with the atomizer and cartomizers? Also, I blow from the mouthpiece out towards the end into a tissue to start, right? Reading the instructions for the ego-c twist it says I have to press the button 5 times to turn it on. Is it after I turn it on that I should hold down the power button for 2-3 seconds while sucking in (but not inhaling) to clean it?

Yves - LOL - I hope you are right that I got a crappy disposable one. I was wondering - Is the Nova tank the same as a Clearomizer? If not, how is it different or better? I think I found one here but I don't understand the "Resistance for Head 1, Head 2" option. Do you know what that means?

I really like your suggestion, Hula, to get sampler packs so I can try different nicotine levels. But it seems they don't offer that - the samplers on your suggested sites are made at 12 mg., except Rawr where you can choose your nicotine level (but all 5 bottles come at that level.) At least I can try 5 different flavors that way, though. So thanks for letting me know that.

And the Extreme Ice flavor sounds perfect, Max. I will get that and the Menthol, along with a sample pack to start.

One more question, Max. You seem to know so much about this stuff, but you've quit for just 8 days? Is it because you tried and restarted analogs, and only now you've found the combination that works for you? As a fellow heavy smoker, I am hoping that you can stay off the analogs and live a healthy life. My 32 years of smoking have taken it's toll on me. Hopefully your combination will work for me, too, and save me the time and money looking for the right solution.

Thanks for all the help, you all. If this works I will be on here and return the favor to other newbies!!! :)

Wow, 3 more replies as I was typing my reply..... this is really a great community!

CSH - Glad to hear it worked for you after 35 years. That gives me hope!!!

Bullette - Yes, it is quite overwhelming. Do you think the ProVari is too much to start with? Is it because it's more expensive, or because it requires more knowledge to use it?

peraspera - thanks for all the useful info. Yes, I think I will start at 24 and also get some 18. One of the ProVari posts I saw was at this link, on page 1 of that post there is a link to an article that I cannot seem to access today but I did last week. So I took it that some folks didn't like the ProVari. Maybe I misinterpreted that. I'm planning to get the ego-c twist set up above, but should I plan to step up to a ProVari? Or if the ego-c setup doesn't work for me, would the ProVari give me a better chance of quitting analogs? Thanks for the brick & mortar location, that's good to know (but I HATE the 405 freeway to get there!!!)

Thanks for all your replies! It's almost 4 AM here, so I'll check for replies to this later in the morning when I wake up. You all have been very helpful in clearing things up for me! :toast:

Yes that is a vivi nova tank, with the twist batteries being variable voltage you can take full advantage of that with the tank and use all 3 heads at different voltages. They are easy to fill, usually you buy them with 3 heads 1.8 ohms 2.4 ohms and 2.8 ohms, that vendor lets you buy extra heads at whatever ohms you need and the basic tank comes with a 2.4 ohms head. This holds 2.0/3.5 mls of juice depending which one you buy, so it saves you having to fill as often.

If you do buy one then you will most likely want a collar for it that makes your battery look nice ;) Like this the C is for the 3.5 ml tank and the D is for the 2.0 ml tank you will find them at other vendors, this was the clearest picture I could find for you to see. This just covers the treads on the battery and gives the tank a little support on your battery. eGo Steel Sleeve Cone (Type C / Type D) [F-D7 DC TypeCD] - $2.50 : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail

Sorry about the crappy comment but most disposables are not the best, but ok if you are stuck and need something urgently lol

Just to give you some encouragement I was a PAD smoker for 43 years and I stopped when I bought a cig a like to use where I couldn't smoke. Charged the battery and took a few drags and realized that I could get myself off tobacco with this cig a like, never smoked from that day on, but it has been a journey of discovery.

It will be great to see how your journey goes :)

You are on the right track, just keep it up. In reality, the only time I see vaping not work for someone, is when they give up too early. You just have to find a good setup, and then quitting cigarettes isn't even a challenge.

In my opinion, the Vivi Novas are better than the other clearomizer options, but they are the same principle.

I am going to give you a link to a short guide for new vapers that I wrote on another forum. It's very easy to understand.

http://www.reddit.com/r/electronic_cigarette/comments/ywa6z/guide_for_newbies_from_a_newbie_sort_of/

I'm also going to link a short explanation of volts and resistance (that's the different heads for the Vivi you were talking about).

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...331755-hows-setup-beginner-2.html#post7186924

Those should help you getting started with vaping. :)

I am glad you are not giving up! Your new set up will be so much better!

i was a 2 ppd smoker my self - pall malls (nasty things). (for 30+ years) I have not quit entirely yet but ive cut down to half pack or less per day and that alone has made a world of difference.

In fact - my bf was so taken with my set up he ordered one for his self. He was a 2-3 ppd guy for over 35 years and is now down to 1/2 pack too.

you will be amazed!

dont worry if you dont dump the cigs immediately. it can take time but eventually we will get there :)

OMG brother. pwitte!!! I actually had the exact same experience as you using Apollo e-cigarettes. They just didn't have enough kick for me to really drop the analogs. I have a solid cheap solution for you after trying out tons of random different equipment & blowing a lot of monies. FYI, I am only half a pack smoker (regular strength Camel Menthols). Here is my list of suggestions!

1.) get an eGo type battery. Seriously, just do it. The amount of different set-ups you can do makes it so worth it. I personally use mini-eGo's at 400mAh, regulated at 3.7V. Higher voltage will improve your performance. Regulated means it stays at that voltage the whole time. Unregulated means it starts off higher when freshly charged & drops down. I think 3.7V makes a giant difference from the unregulated cigarette clones that drop down to 3.3V. I would also recommend AGAINST getting a kit. Just buy the pieces you need separately.

2.) most important: LOW resistance CLEAROMIZER!!! legit this will be your savoir. I tested the mini viv nova tank clearomizer & the vision eGo clearomizer V3. At 1.8ohm resistance, I get an INTENSE throat hit and I am actually even considering dropping my nicotine levels down from 18mg. I was using 18mg of nicotine with my previous Apollo standard electronic cigarette clone model. I tested 12-24mg, but under 18mg is way too weak for cigarette clone models. You get a TON of vapor with low resistance. You can even get rebuildable clearomizers that save you $$$. CLEAROMIZERS allow you to see your liquid levels and I find the wick system MUCH better than the cotton-polyfill cartomizers. So much easier to refill and keep track of your consumption. Some people say cartomizers have better flavor, but from my experience cartomizer performance drops extremely significantly over long-term use.

I recommend clearomizers because it allows you to do 2-piece (battery+clearomizer) rather than 3 piece (battery + atomizer + cartridge) which is more prone to leaking and also just more complicated to deal with.

Get LONG wick over short wick. Also, the top coil clearomizers produce a WARM vapor, and I really love it! Bottom coil has the juice near the coil but farther from your mouth, so cooler vapor. There are subtle differences in flavor for the top vs bottom coils which cause people to recommend one over the other.

3.) Start off getting only 10mL bottles. That way you can test different strengths of nicotine and flavors. You can get a 24mg nicotine and a 12 mg nicotine of the same flavor to mix together to find the perfect strength for yourself before committing to a bigger bottle. If you feel a burning sensation from your throat hit, I would recommend lowering the nicotine level. Ideally, I found 60/40 to 70/30 PG vs VG ratio to be the best mix. PG = flavor. VG = vapor. If you feel like you want more of one, just change your ratio.

4.) Take long SMOOTH drags. You do not need to suck harder to get more like with a regular cigarette. I found for the small e-cigs I needed at least 5 sec drags, but with low resistance, I can take really short 3 second drags. Your set-up should give you really satisfying 3-5 second puffs with lots of vapor. I read that if you inhale it into your mouth and hold for a few seconds, then into your lungs, then out your nose; you get the max nicotine absorption.

Price of my set-up (I purchased from Dragonfly: Dragonfly eCigs - Distributor of Joyetech 510-T, eGO-T, 510, eGo, and large variety of MOD)
$11.95 for mini-Ego battery (I got x2 minis)
$3.95 for a usb charger
$7.95 for a Vision (stardust) eGo clearomizer V3 [rebuildable] -> great cheap option!!!
$11.95 for mini viv nova tank clearomizer
$17.95 for a 30mL ejuice

So less than $30 for batteries & about $20 for the clearomizers (they are supposed to last a month). I probably use about 1mL of juice a day. Total you will be spending about $20/month for juice, which is much cheaper than buying packs of cigarettes. Getting rebuildable clearomizers allows you to just replace out parts, which is cheaper than spending $15 a month to get two vision stardust V3.

Hope all this info helps & good luck man!!! PM me if you have any questions :)

Yes that cannon tip will work with the 306 thats what I'm using currently in the black variant (and almost exclusively I might add). On your new atomizers take a paper towel and put it near the end where the drip tip would go then blow through the end with the threads to make sure you get any packing liquid out of it. With the 306 you will screw it to your twist and push on the tip before you drip or it will make a mess. You will immeadiately notice the difference between the 306 and 510. When dripping with the 510 you will most likely want to take the drip tip off before dripping each time. To start off I like to add 3 drips and then draw on the atty without activating the device. Listen for a crackling/gurgling sound. If you dont hear it then ad 1-2 drops and try again. With new atomizers you may experience a harsh taste and/or muted flavor as they usually have a short break in period (usually not exceeding 30 minutes) but it goes away fairly quickly. After using an atty for a short time you start getting the feel for it. If you get a hit that tastes bad or "dry" then you should prob add 2-3 drops before hitting it again. If you drip to much it may leak around the holes at the bottom of the atty near the threads. Keep a tissue around until you get to know your atty. I use an atty that my wife said was to leaky but I got to know it and use it the most out of all my atties with no leakage problems.

It may seem like i know a lot in a short time because ever since I started vaping I've been watching video's and reading forums lol. I want to make sure I'm aware of whats available to me and things I can try to ensure my success in leaving analogs behind for good. In a short time with some patience you will be as knowledgable and comfortable with terminology and sure of yourself that you will soon be the one giving advice.

Best of luck to you and I hope between the help you find here and other research you will find the perfect setup that works for you.

The normal ciggie look-a-like Blu, did not get me off the analogs, but it helped.
I went with the eGo, and after a couple weeks with it, I was able to kick the analogs.

Now I still use my Blu, in my car, and I refill my Blu carts. Easy to do. After a month, the
Blu is sometimes enough for me even though it's not my fave, that goes to the eGo. But
the Blu is still a crazy cool-looking device, and I still like it. I know most people slam the Blu,
but it is ok for me.

I agree with people here that you need to up the nic content, I'm still with 24 mg, but I'm only
a month out of smoking, so I feel I need that most of the time. I do intend to start weaning myself
downward soon.

Once I hit some cool flavors, analogs had less and less appeal to me. I like the fruits mixed with menthol, or the
ice flavors right now.

Good luck and don't give up!!

I smoked 1 and 1/2 packs a day Newport. When I started vaping the standard unit was not enough. Here is what I did. I got a VV that goes to 6 volts, a torpedo, V-max, Provari what ever. I got the Torpedo from Totally Wicked and the V-Max. I used the VV when cravings were really bad mostly in the morning. Take and get high level of nicotine, I used 36mg to start but quickly moved to 24mg. Take and get yourself an Ego-twist for out and about because that cranks up to 4.8 volts. The main thing I did was dripped in the morning with the menthol flavor in a decent atomizer because it gave me the biggest hit. I was done with Newport in less than a month. It is different for everyone but this worked like a charm for me. Best of luck!

It looks like you're really on the right track! I'd suggest getting some 36mg juice that you can use for the strong cravings...my all day vape is 36mg and without it, I'd be back on analogs in a quick hurry (I am a nicotine superfreak though- there's seemingly never enough for me). I'd also suggest getting 2 1000 mah batteries. When you're stuck somewhere with a dead battery you won't care so much about form factor as just getting some nicotine into your system.

If you get your setup and don't love it- come back to us. There are a kajillion different options, and I'm absolutely convinced you'll find something you love. It's a tough process, but when you find your sweet spot it's one of the best feelings in the world. Personally I vape a bottom feeder mod because for me, it's the easiest- no fiddling. Just fill the bottle, toss in a battery and vape for a day or 2. They're spendy, but have good resale value if you decide you don't like it.

Good luck!

... been smoking about 1 1/2 packs a day of (most recently) Parliament Menthol (lights) for the past 32 years ...
We are in very similar circumstances.
... I ordered the Apollo disposable cigarette ... I was not as blown away ... I have to inhale so hard just to get anything and my nicotine cravings are not going away at all ...
This is not a very good PV and not very safe (see http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-issues/329907-510-battery-meltdown.html). You may have the additional problem of being a menthol smoker as I did. Until I found the correct menthol flavor, it didn't do much for me either. Although I haven't completely quit (1 month), I'm down to 2-3 analogs a day. As far as having to inhale hard, you need to get a manual PV instead of an automatic (recommendation follows).
... (4) How do you know when it's done? ...
Hard to tell if it's the cartridge or the battery if you don't use a tank or cartomizer. When you stop getting vapor, it's one of the two. I like tanks because I can see how much liquid I have and it provides a consistent vape at all times (cartomizers look more difficult to fill). I recommend the eGo-C, Type B, Upgrade Ecig Kit from Cignot for $75 (https://www.cignot.com/product_p/kit-ebc-all.htm). If you order from them, you also can get the tanks prefilled with 18 mg menthol (which isn't too bad as far as menthol goes). Some will recommend the eGo Twist, but if you use tanks, it's not really worth it (burns the liquid at high voltage).

... (6) I don't really want any sweet or fancy flavors, just regular menthol with nicotine like I smoke now ...
I have some reviews on my post, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...menthol-quest-perfect-menthol-experience.html and you can find others on the E-Liquid Reviews forum.

P.S. I recommended the PV KIT because you will want a spare battery and you need to make sure you have the correct charger for the PV.
