Not to be offensive - but he was older and at a higher risk for stroke just because of his age. Ginkgo probably increased his chances and did cause the stroke just as eating lots of sugar can cause serious problems among diabetics - there should probably be a warning on Ginkgo bottles about the increase in risk (it also can cause seizures, loss of consciousness, and death). The problem is that past like 60, the risk for Alzheimer's doubles every decade making the theraputic effects of something like Ginkgo in demand - but then the chance that it'll increase stroke in these same individuals probably nullifies it as a drug of choice. My parents both have high blood pressure and are in their late 50s - I probably wouldn't recommend for them to take it, but then again I have found that MOST multivitamin
supplements on the market contain Ginkgo so this may really be a hidden danger! But for younger people with less risk for stroke and who are free of cardiovascular problems, it may be safe.
That's true...and I really shouldn't have to point this out but... Have you noticed all the lawsuits against big pharma in the last couple of decades?
Those are regulated companies most herbal remedies are not regulated. You take your chances. I'm just passing on the information I know as fact because of my father's experience.
