Yihi has been keeping the prices kind of high when compared to the clones, but hopefully its not $100 considering even the dna40 doesnt pull that in :(

are the up/down/fire buttons not being on board really that big of a deal? really I think i would rather get some quality through hole tactile switches and a strip of .1 spaced perf board that way I am not locked down to a specific layout and can make it better fit my mod and then not need to desolder the onchip buttons... ;)

The 350J looks to be a variant of their 350 Mini which is selling for $80 w/ .5A charging board. YiHi's base 350 retails for $70 w/ charging board. I have no idea what YiHi will ask for the TP feature. You can bet it will be more than the 350 Mini though. In which case, there's little reason not to go with an Evolv solution unless you're looking for more than 40W.

The 350 Mini was available before YiHi's SX Mini mod. So I have no reason to believe the 350J part won't be available at release. Who knows? Is there a company willing to pay YiHi enough cash for a 3 or 6 month exclusive?

The problems I see with both the 350J and Mini, is the lack of soldering points for control. If we choose not to use the on-board switches, we must remove them and solder directly to their former solder joints. This is not impossible, just much busier. The board is longer than a DNA with the OLED hard-mounted to the PCB; much less flexibility in the design of your enclosure. Mounting the PCB also becomes more of an issue in the design phase. The 350 Mini and 350J won't just slap into a Hana clone enclosure like the DNAs & their clones.

As much as I like YiHi's chiipsets, price and far less flexibility in design make them much less attractive.

I suspect their first "J" chip will be designed for a specific mod that they are gearing towards, but that there will be other "J" chips with off board buttons.

The only SX350 Mini board currently available is identical to what is in YiHi's SX Mini mod; no allowance for off-board control buttons, long PCB and hard-mounted OLED. I'm not so big on the chipset's interface and control anyway. I dislike gravity/gyro sensors in my PVs.

The SX350 Mini board now comes with the switches and the usb connected by wires and not on-board as they are in the SXMini mod. This change was made some time back.
Check out the product listing on Varitube's site. Do not pay any attention to the photo as it is the original one and has not been updated. Read the text and look at the wiring diagram and you will see the switches have been removed from the board.
Authentic YiHi SXmini 60W/120W Chip!

Thanks for catching that! I hadn't read the entire listing since it was first posted. That was definitely the first version.

I still wish they would detach the OLED and shorten the PCB. It sure would be more flexible in designing smaller mods.

Although $80 sounds like a lot of money, with the balancing charger included, I guess it's not a terrible deal...

...Hobby king has a 5600 1s/2p hardcase pack that is lots smaller overall than the two 18650s ;) -- plus the C rating they give blows even the VTC5's out of the water -- and if it ever needs to replaced its slightly cheaper than 2xVTC4 18650s. ...

Varitube seems to have had a close relationship with YiHi and is in frequent contact with them with feedback for the SX350 series chips. You might want to post your wish list in their supplier thread so suggestions can be passed on, The YiHi SX350 35W Chip at Varitube. Despite the thread title they discuss all the SX350 series of chips.

Man I just want a mod that's less than 80 mm high where I can stuff a 18650 in but besides the ft mini hana or the cloupor mini, there isn't anything. Am I asking too much? :)

All these mods are 90,100 or even 110 mm high... :(

Tony

I'm with you, Tony. I'm a fan of small mods too! One problem with smaller mods is they're harder and take longer to build and often require custom parts.

But when you remove the packs from the hard case, measurements drop to 73 x 43 x 16mm.

You don't want to make your own enclosure? I can make you a box that is any size you want, a lot like this. You would then have to put the holes where you liked and well, you know, build the mod. I do not sell these, but don't mind being a part of your mod creation process.

Yes. The mini hana (72mm version) was a pain to mod but it works and it's small.

Only problem is that I didn't have a M9x0.75 tap so I gave it to a machinist to tap it. He tapped it perfectly but ruined the finish in the process (he used a big vice and clamped the enclosure tight... Too tight :( )

I was to live with it but since my dna 40 started to act up, I have to disassemble it and send the chip back. That's a perfect opportunity to do it again but this time I'll do it myself. Question is... Another ft mini hana, a cloupor mini or another enclosure?

The cloupor mini was at the top of my list (no work needed in the battery Bay area) but those grooves next to the 510 connector kills the whole thing. I wanted to put a quality spring loaded connector (similar to the varitube or FD but better) in there but the grooves will ruin the appearance. I also couldn't find a pic of it with an erlk or erlp nano on top of it to see the looks.

The zero mod system looks clever to secure the battery in place with minimal space (set screw) but the mod itself is too big...

Any other enclosure? :)

That looks nice! How does the box close? I don't see screws or magnets

It is a metal band with two wood skins. The bottom skin is installed permanently, the top skin uses magnets to attach to a mounting rail. I don't sell them but would be happy to make up a box for you to mod. You just have to get your size down exactly as you want. The side bar is typically 1", 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" wide and can be 1/16" or 1/8th thick. The 1/16 this is easy to work with, the 1/8 not so much (you can see it on the bench under the mod). The wood skins eat up 1/8" each, unless you want thicker skins. The bar that holds the magnets also makes the layout critical. If you went down that rout, I would probably send you a box of your specified inside dimensions and the materials to mount the magnets. I typically do not put the magnet rails in until the chip and everything else is in as you will find yourself out of room.
