I started vaping about 2 months ago, using 12mg liquid from the start. I had previously been a smoker for several years, and right before I made the switch I was smoking about a pack a day. I basically quit cigarrettes right away, having one with friends maybe 5 times since. Recently (in the past 2 weeks) I have been feeling very shaky, and the only change I have made is switching from smoking to vaping. I thought if this was from a nicotine content that was too high I would have noticed this from the start. Has anyone else experienced this?

to ecf tigerkt . So glad to have you here. Has anything else changed. The juice? The type of device you are using? Is it possible that you are experiencing pg sensitivity? Not much help I know but I am sure someone who may have experienced the same problems will post and we will both learn something new. That is what ecf is all about. Learning and helping others. I hope everything works out for you and I look forward to reading more about you. Good luck to you.

I don't know what you're vaping out of but different devices (and their varying atomizers) simply produce vapor diffently. Some more efficiently, some less so. Point is that 12mg liquid is probably giving you more vapor (and consequently more nicotine) than say a disposable e cig would due to your device.

Also, some juice manufacturer's nicotine contents are not 100% accurate. The 12mg juice i get from Halo is less strong than the cheap juice I got at the brick and mortar.

I don't know about yours, but mine did. I started at 24 mg/ml a little over a year ago. Then vaping began to make me sweat and shake, and gave me tinnitus and palpitations. So I lowered the nic to 18 mg, and was happy for a few weeks/months. Then it happened again. I went down to 12 mg and all was well - for a while. Now I'm at 6 mg, and my nicotine tolerance seems to have stabilized. But who knows, maybe it's not over until I reach zero nic. That would be cool by me - after all DIY mixing is much cheaper without the nicotine. ;)

Also, what bigt said. Due to better equipment and changing habits, I am consuming a larger volume of vapor now than before. That probably plays into it as well.

I started at 24, well I did try 36 for a few days... But quiclyly went from 24 to 18 to 12.

During that time I used better equipment and probably delivered more quality vapor.

Two weeks ago I started using the Atlantis, and had to grab a few bottles at 6mg. I dont see myself ever pulling out my nautilus or kayfun to finish off the 12mg I have left.

Did you get better gear to vape with?

Hi tigerkt.

Most people when they Switch start at some level of Nicotine that they need to get them Off cigarettes. But then after a period of Time find that they Don't Need as much Nicotine as what they started with. So they ease back on the mg/ml a bit.

This might be something that you might want to Try.

You also might want to look at how much Water you drink in a Given Day. Most people ( either Smokers - Vapers - or Normies ) don't drink Enough Water.

Do you drink a lot of Water?

Many vapers do still go through withdraw after quitting tobacco. There are hundreds of other chemicals you're now depriving your body of that vaping doesn't provide. There has been research showing that TSNA's (Tobacco-Specific Nitrosamines) in conjunction with nicotine and other chemicals in tobacco make quite a potent stew.
That could be part of your issue.
It seems that as your body detoxes, your dependency on nicotine drops... pretty quickly at first for most of us. I started on 24mg, and quickly dropped to 18 within a few months, then to 12 where I lingered for a good 6-8 months. I'm currently bouncing around between 0mg for most of the day with times of 6mg just for a little bump.
I'm not opposed to the nicotine either... Technically, it isn't as dangerous as the ANTZ would like you to think it is! More children and adolescents have died from caffeine in energy drinks than from nicotine. Actually, I don't think anyone has died directly from nicotine poisoning, but I could be wrong.
The nicotine does have a great therapeutic effect on most of us. It's the only known stimulant that actually has a calming effect! :vapor:

And as zoiD said... Water, water, water! Keep hydrated! Very important!
Over time, your body will adjust.

Oh... and I almost forgot this magic elixer... Whole Tobacco Alkaloid WTA Eliquid Ejuice just in case you never heard of it. It has helped many a basket case get a handle on their withdrawals!
(I was one of them!) :D

As Uncle Psyko said, it migh also be withdrawl.

A simple test might be to just vape less during the day for a couple of days and see if that makes a difference. I know that I chain-vaped (sort of pacifier mode) for the first few weeks. Once I settled down to a calmer vaping style, everything sort of fell into place, and I didn't have to change my nic level.

If vaping differently for a few days helps, you can either adapt to your new vaping style, or lower the nic of the juices you vape.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

Lots of things could be in play. As others have said, your tolerance can change as you transition from smoking to vaping. Listen to your body and respond to its signals. If you think that your symptoms are nic related, drop 25% in nic and see if they improve.

I vaped 24mg for over three years before I decided to drop nic levels. I went to 18mg for a month, then 12mg. I dropped to 6mg about a year ago and have stayed there since. I found myself vaping more frequently for a while when I dropped a level, but that went away as my body got used to the new nic strength.

I'm no expert, but here's how I understand the process by which we absorb nic from vaping. Your lungs could be healing and becoming more efficient. Most of our vaped nicotine is absorbed through mucous membranes instead of being absorbed by our lung tissues. When we smoked, the nic went straight into our lungs, on to the heart, and straight out to the brain and the rest of our body. Nic absorbed by the mucous membranes goes through the liver, kidneys. and other organs before finally being pumped back to the lungs. It takes longer to notice the effects of nic then it did with cigarettes. You can OD and not notice it immediately and it hits you later, all at once. That's your signal to cut back and vape more slowly until you develop a feel for how often to vape.

I can personally tell you that my tolerance decreased. When I started vaping (2009) I began at 36mg for about 3-4 months. The throat hit then became too much and I tapered down to 24, 18, and 12 which I stayed at for about 2 years. With better devices and higher voltages/wattages I then decreased again to 6. It has been decreasing slightly ever since to the point now where I have been at 0 nicotine for 3 weeks. Honestly, I think that between 0mg and 3mg would be my current sweet spot but the freedom that comes with an absence of nicotine dependency keeps me buying 0mg.

I can also tell you that when nicotine is tapered off completely the amount of liquid consumed also greatly decreases due to the unintended consequence of simply forgetting about vaping for hours on end.

In summery I absolutely believe that vaping leads to a decreased level of nicotine tolerance and I wish you all the best with your transition and can personally attest to wonderful benefits that vaping has given to me and countless others that have made the switch.

Good luck!
