Is it normal to hear a slight hissing/whining when charging my 18350 aw batteries? I just got my first mod not long ago and the batteries always seem to do this from start of charge to end. It seems to get quieter or go away at the end of the charge but I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong. Thanks in advance!

they should make no noise. either the charger or your batteries are causing this, and it is dangerous. i would advise getting a better charger....is there a specialty battery store around you like a batteries plus? they should be able to test the batteries/charger for you.

It is possible that your getting something in the audible range out of it. What kind of charger are you using? Unless it gets hot or really warm your probably OK. But you should never leave a battery charging unattended. Unless you take precautions like I put one inside a simple can and I have a special charging bag I use for others. If it did it from the start then somewhere in the design they may have used some kind of higher freq. in the logic. Could be a harmonic or something. Does it get hot? If so you may have a problem.

It's a trustfire charger and it's not getting hot. I've been charging for a week or two every day with no problems so far. And I have been told that I hear things others don't quite often. I do have a batteries plus nearby though so maybe I will have them check the charger and batteries out. Thanks again guys.

good call on having them check it out....i wouldn't trust it too long, it seems strange though, as trustfire usually makes some pretty solid chargers.

Seems to me like it's probably the charger making the noise, but that's just my opinion. I've never noticed noises from either of the three chargers I have - a cheapo that came with a LavaTube and doesn't see much use, an Xtar WP2 and a high end charger I use for my model airplane battery packs. If this happened to me, I would check the batteries with a voltmeter after every charge (4.2 V max - more than that and I would throw out the charger). I think a better charger would be a good investment in any case. I also second everyone who said to not leave the batts alone when charging and do it in a safe for fire environment.

Yup it is a TR001. Thanks Neon. I honestly wasn't TOO concerned since it wasn't getting the batteries hot, just wanted to see if it was common or something that needed addressed. Now I'm really not concerned with it if it's a known issue and hasn't been a problem for anyone YET lol. I'm just going to keep fingers crossed and charge in a safe area.

Or maybe you just don't hear it. It might be at a frequency or at a dB level that you are incapable of detecting...

i could see this being a posibility, but doubt it, i get my ears tested every year as part of my annual physical that i'm required to take for my job, and i consistently score extremely well on a hearing exam....often hearing as low as 2.5 Db....i'll grab a stethoscope from work and hold it up to it and see if maybe i'm just an oddball of the group here...

Jeezzz...talk about a timely thread. I just changed batts in my Lavatube, and for the last 30 minutes I've been hearing a 'squealing hum'. Thanks to this thread, I just realized my AW IMR 18650 3.7V 1600 mAh battery is the culprit. As mentioned above, I'm using a Trustfire TR-001 charger.

Taking the battery out of the charger, the sound stops; put the battery back in the charger, the squealing hum begins.

The batt was almost out of juice when I put it on the charger, but now after about 45 minutes, the squealing hum is going away.

These batteries are about a year old, but still hold a pretty good charge. Even so, I believe I'll be ordering some replacements pretty quick.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys! (All is now QUIET in the charger. Think it's because the charge on the batt was so low???)

I just ordered some 18350 batteries and a charger. Was about to think I should have ordered ear plugs too. <grin>

Let us know if you figure out what the noise was. Hope it turns out to be something simple. Above all, stay safe. Don't hang around while the batteries are charging, and make sure their in a place where no big damage occurs if something happens.
