It isn't overfilled carts, it did it with the included, pre-filled, Marlboro cart by the third puff.

Quite honestly, the batteries are so bad I wonder if they are just defective. I timed it last time, after a 6 hour recharge I only got 32 puffs from the 510 before the battery was gone.

If the batteries are bad it doesn't say much for 510 quality control. It came with two atomizers and the first one lasted all of an hour before going cold. The second one has been going strong for several days but it doesn't get near as much use as my 901 because it it always recharging.

Maybe I will pick up a manual battery from a different supplier like Totally Wiked and see if that makes a difference.

The automatic batteries are junk, I think all 510 users will agree upon that. I get good battery life out of manuals, much, much better than what you are describing and they also charge quickly, although I've never done a charge comparison timing with my 901. I just don't use my 901 much anymore.

My atomizers last a long time. In fact the other day I was using the manual button to activate the atomizer to clean off some nasty tasting juice that I tried and I did it for so long that I saw a small flash of flame come out of the atomizer! I thought, well, I just killed it. But much to my surprise it is still working as well as ever! :)

Quality control is a problem for all models of e-cigs. All this stuff is made in China after all. I have a feeling the 510 kit you got just has issues with the batteries and the atomizer. If you got another one you might find yourself re-doing your whole review. But if you are happy with your 901 that's all that matters. Enjoy it !

WOW! It is like everyone was reading my mind.... 8-o

I have the DSE901 and was thinking of getting the 510 from David at Eastmall and he only has manual switches, I think. I really like my 901, so I am hesitant to get the 510 for fear of being disappointed.

I vape marlboro (24mg), peaches 'n' cream (18mg) and mandarin 'n' cream (18mg). I don't want to lose too much flavor, but I am not afraid to make it a little stronger either.

So, what do you think? Should I order another 901 or should I branch out and get the 510. Or, should I stay with the 901 and await the manual batts for it? Or, should I go for the JantyStick ~ seems kind of expensive to upkeep but, heck, I am high maintenance, too.....

I tried the SD and ended up getting rid of it. Seemed to big a hassle (juice hawg) and I don't like dripping. Fililng the carts works fine for me.

Many thanks for your opinions, as I have an unlimited budget now that the boys have purchased brand new dirt bikes......

Please keep in mind that "unlimited budget" still means that I am tighter than a tick on the cat's back.....:)

I think everyone should try the other options available if they can afford it. My first e-cig was a 901 and I loved it. But the 901 and several others that I have tried, have now been replaced by the 510 as well as the VX2 which I also use daily.

The VX2 is sold by Shawn over at LITECIG USA. The VX2 (Model J118) is often referred to as the new 901 because it looks so much like it and seems to be a redesign of it. It's a great unit!

The JantyStick is certainly worth a try for you as well...

I have a new atomizer on the way, Art at TheVaporPro has been great so far and I mailed back the defective one yesterday. I will pick up a manual battery and give it a go, but either way it's a nice backup e-cig. It's not like I don't like vaping from it, I just prefer the 901.

I must admit, I am now totally spoiled by e-cigs. For my "two week anniversary" of quitting analogs I went ahead and fired one up to see if I noticed a difference. Boy did I, the analog now tastes like cow-dung compared to the e-cig. I will never go back to cancer sticks and I can't believe how easy it was to quit!

Thanks for the review. Maybe I'll pick up a 901 someday to compare.

On the auto batteries...(both of mine died within a few days, no problems with the passthrough or manual batts I've gotten since)..they never did really give me a draw I was satisfied with, it's lighter than the draw on the manual batts or the passthrough (manual switch), though.

Battery life is pretty poor. I usually use the passthrough, from my home office..pretty much all day.

After smoking my 901 now for about two weeks I decided I wanted something else for comparison. I looked at the polls and reviews and it seemed like the 510 was starting to pass the 901 in terms of popularity, so I ordered a Joye 510 kit with "new & improved" automatic batteries. These two e-cigs are most definitely different vaping experiences, so here is my take on them.

    Vapor Production:
With fresh batteries and a newly filled cartridge in each the 510 does produce a bit more vapor than the 901. It's not the "staggering difference" I expected from the talk on many of the forums, but it certainly produces more vapor in a "short puff". You can get about the same from the 901 if you do a primer puff followed by a long draw but it takes longer. Even though there is more vapor from the 510, it seems "thinner" than what my 901 produces. This is much more noticeable using VG based liquid. Here is the twist, once the battery is about half way gone the 901's vapor production catches up to the 510 and eventually surpasses it.

    Battery Life:
At the rate I smoke my 901 usually lasts me about 4 hours or more on a single battery, which works out well because the battery only takes about 3-4 hours to charge. I just alternate which one is in the charger and rarely run out of power. My 510 never lasts more than about an hour to an hour and a half and the batteries take longer to re-charge than the 901 batteries do. If this was my only device I would be in trouble unless I had several chargers and a stack of batteries. I had read that the 510 burns 20% hotter so the batteries run out "a little quicker" than the 901's do, but that is like saying a Hummer Limo holds "a few more people" than a VW Bug.

    Throat Hit, Draw, and Taste:
The 510 has a slightly lighter draw than the 901 and gives a stronger throat hit. I am guessing this is because the vapor is warmer due to the 510's higher atomizer temperature. What I did not expect is the huge flavor difference between the two. I stopped even putting any "subtle" flavors in the 510 after the second day because it is a total waste of good liquid. The 510 does ok with "sharp" flavors like Apple, Strawberry, and Peach; but flavors like Chocolate, Vanilla, and Banana are barely discernable. The taste drop is lesser in VG based liquid but in PG they just about disappear.

    Cartridges, Atomizers, and Liquid Consumption:
I absolutely hate the 510 cartridge design. Sometimes it gurgles so much it sounds like I am smoking a frikkin ..... At first I thought it was the atomizer getting flooded but it turned out most of the time it is just the cartridge. I think the two small airways on the 510 cause condensation to build up where the 901's larger airway lets it pass through. It actually smokes better with a 901 cart on it than it does with an actual 510 cart. The 510 does a better job when the cartridge gets low, but I don't mind topping off my cart from time to time. My other complaints about the 510 are that it burns through e-liquid like a starving vampire in a blood bank and the atomizer gets so hot you can cook off of it.

    Overall Opinion:
I have to say I won't be getting rid of my 901s any time soon. I like the 510 and it is a good backup e-cig, but I really enjoy the robust flavors I get from the 901, not to mention its vastly superior batteries and lower liquid consumption rate. The 510 may produce a bit more vapor but it fades with the battery, and that means quick. I think my next purchase will be an 801 since it may give me the best of both worlds.

I agree with every thing,my 510 also leaks(early carts i think).my 901 is great.I got 4 (510 ,mini ,901 and the bling cigar)types within 2 days of each other.IMHO the 510 dont live up to the hype-and to top it off the thing leaks so badly.

    Bristow, Ok.
I totally agree with the review. My daughter and I both got a 510 before we got a 901. I liked the flavor better in the 901 and she thought the flavor and nicotine was too strong in the 901. I traded one 510 set (I had 2 sets) to my daughter for her 901. We usually agree on things. After the trade we are both very happy. We had both types of the batteries. She likes the one with the button better. I like the one without the button. If any parts had been defective we would have noticed very quickly when we compared. Another thing we noticed was if you take the battery off the charger as soon as the light turns green the battery life is very short.

To me this just proves that We can just have different preferences. I still have one 510 set and use it but my fav is the 901. I am glad that my daughter and I don't have to have any (my dog is better than your dog discussions). On this our preferences are just different.

Personally . . I dont know why anyone would need anything more than a Dura-C . . . The SD sounds too me like a bigger battery bigger cart (if using 801) version of a Dura-c (510). Yea the topping off is kinda hectic being that I started with 801 penstyles from N-Joy and EsmokeyTreats but . . I have heard alot of hype about the 801's and 901's and in my opinion from my time with my 801's with auto batteries . . . OMG . . . I used to get so frustrated that I couldnt get a consistent hit that I would throw down my 801 and run to the store for analogs !!! After the Dura-C I only go get analogs when drinking and my batts die or If im jus plain wanting to be bad and hit an analog cuz all my friends still burn analogs and sometimes its just too tempting!! The vapor and throat hit is there with my Dura and its consistent every time !!! Unlike an 801 or 901 which is off like a new brides pair of panties!! The only thing the SD has is battery life and cart size if running with the 801 carts. IMHO its not worth the money, aside from the fact that the SD batts are cheaper but a USB pass for the Dura will solve that all together !!! I will say the juice is a bit dryer and a little less flavor but . . . isent that more like a real cig but with a hint of nice caramel (RY4) flavor or whatever flavor you like ? Oh and for those who dont know . . . Go manual . . . they just plain kick all kinds of ... next to an auto battery!!!

I have the exact opposite experience, then that of the reviewer. Since i got my 510, i've shelved my 901 and have never looked back.

I get significantly more vapor on my 510. The draw being easier is a huge plus to me. I LOVE the manual battery on the 510. The battery life seems comparable to me, but i've never really measured so that's a "guesstimate" on my part. The 510 seems to have better flavor on all juices for me.

Overall, as much as i like my 901 at first, for me it just does not compare to the 510.:thumb:

After reading the review I was thinking I would never get a 510 but after other people talking I may need to order one next week when I get paid. I love my 901 but is the 510 really that much better?

I'll let you know by the end of the day, as my 510 should be here today! whoo hooo!! :thumb:

I was in the same boat; I have the 901, but wanted/needed to upgrade. Since it was pretty equal in 901 vs 510 reviews, I thought it would be something to not even concider.

I was leaning towards the Prodigy or the Stick but didn't want to wait. Plus, being so new, I'm sure there are ants (smaller than bugs) to be worked out. I was asured that "...if I went 5-10, I wouldn't want my 901 again...", so I bit the bullet. We'll see.....

I too was rather happy with my 901. I bought it to replace my first ecig which was 801 penstyle that I really didn't like. The 901 was the first time I knew that I can replace analogs with this. I actually got 3 kits for 901 and additional spare atomizers for cheap. I was set.

I don't even remember why I ordered 510, but since I first got it I didn't look back. I still like the 901, but am keeping it only as a spare. I have been using 510 every day and although the battery only lasts at most 45 minutes for me (but I am vaping constantly and many people report much longer battery life), I keep several charged and am also using USB passthrough, so it is not a problem. The most important thing to me is the throat hit, and 510 delivers beautifully. Just make sure you get the manual battery, not automatic.

A family member was interested in my 510 so we swapped Ecigs for a day.I was curious what a 901 was all about (her Totally Wicked model).
Not as big a hit with the 901 to me.Battery life seemed about on par (my NPRO outlasts either). Juice consumption didnt seem any different (I use about 1 to 1.5 ml a day). The 510 draws easier too.
Hated going back to the auto switch. I know its actually more "high tech", but its also buggy and I have the fear of cig in my pocket going supernova (which has happened). As a bonus, theres 0 chance of juice leaking into battery= ruining it!
I have no regrets sir. Its a better mousetrap IMO and id rather stock parts on just ONE model..

Now what did she doo? Her pretty stainless TW 901 collects dust and shes enjoying a Janty 510!

Well, months go by and we already have 901's with manual batteries so we can discard that point of comparison right?

It's so funny how people defend either the 901 or the 510. They are different, period.

I like the vapor production on my 510, just I little inhale and you have great vapor but definetely the flavor gets lost a little bit.

My 901 gives a very good flavor but a little less vapor and like someone said, 901 is a more "moist" vapor than the 510 which is more "dry" vapor.

My first cig was a 901 and I loved it, great flavor but then I started to think that I wanted more vapor so I bought a 510, by the time I got it my 901 atty was dead. I started to vape on my 510 and WOW, a lot of vapor but then I started to miss the flavor from my 901 so, stop saying which is better just get both of them, and also an 801 and you would have a PV for every ocation, mood or situation.
