Hello all! I am new to the forum. I guess for my first post I will tell you how I converted my 30B dual coil to a single micro coil. If this has been covered elsewhere, please slap my wrist.
First I removed the pin and silicon insulator from the bottom of the coil and removed all the original coil and silica material. I then wound a 8-wrap coil with 32g kanthal around a tattoo needle bar (seems to give me the perfect diameter). I then remove the bar and insert the coil into the coil housing from underneath and line it up with the lower-most hole, then thread the bar through the hole - through the coil- and out the other side (this stabilizes the coil and keeps it inline with the holes). I then install the silicon insulator threading one leg of the lead and leaving the other leg on the outside, then insert the pin along side the other lead to complete the connection (if you have ever rebuilt a protank coil then this should be relatively familiar), then clip the excess leads off flush with the housing. Now, I roll a nice wick with organic 100% cotton balls. Thread the wick through the holes and coil. Your rolled wick should should be tapered from really tight at the end to pretty lose, this makes it easy to insert and also gives resistance as its threaded to insure a tight fit, after you pull it to the desired distance, give it a little tug in the opposite direction to insure that you didn't pull the coil to far over and cause a short, then clip the excess cotton and give it a little stimulation to fray the edges. Now, what I do is plug the top hole completely with 100% cotton yarn. I cut a piece about 4'' and also have a section of 5'' wire handy I fold the wire in half and thread it through the top hole. Then, thread the yarn through the eye of the wire on the other side. Slowly pull it through the hole completely, thus giving you two layers of yarn plugging the top hole completely, now snip the excess. BE SURE TO PRIME THE COIL AND LET IT SOAK AT LEAST 10 MIN BEFORE YOU PUT HEAT TO IT. Burnt cotton tastes horrible!!
This coil gives me ~2.5-2.6 ohm, I vape it on my VAMO at about 8.5-10W and the flavor and vapor production is WAAAAY better than the stock coils! Even better, when your coil gets worn, you just have to remove the bottom wick, dry-burn, then insert a new wick..
HAPPY vaping! and thanks for having me!!
