I noticed that prefilled carts crackle, but when I fill up blank carts myself they don't. It makes me think they do something to the prefilled carts to make them crackle. Why the crackle?

actually, my filled-blanks crackle too. most of the time. it is a slightly different crackle though, a bit less pronounced, and sometimes the prefilled's give a big POP, and that usually never happens with my filled blanks.
maybe because the prefilled's have been sitting around longer, and the liquid inside may be slightly dryer, a little more gummy, increasing the viscosity of the liquid, which could increase the crackle/popping? Idunno

I don't know , but I love it! To me it's a happy sound that means my carto is working away.

i frequently hold it up to my ear first, before taking a puff, to make sure its working - using the crackle/sizzle as my cue that it is. Lets it warm up a touch at the same time. But the pre-filled's that POP though... that can be pretty loud - has made me jump! heheh
I know without the "snap" and "pop" it's just not the same... but, yes, you're supposed to hear it on a working carto.
