Why do my new coils have a burnt taste at first?

I'm fairly new to vaping and just received some new coils for my iClear 16D in the mail today. I put in a new coil and some liquid into my tank and on the first couple hits, it tasted extremely bad and burnt. Then, it went away with time. Just changed the coil in my other device and, once again, first five hits or so, an extremely burnt taste. Is this normal? Do I have to let the liquid sink into the wick for some time before using it?

Make sure the wicks are totally saturated with e-liquid prior to vaping.

With a top coil like the iClear 16, you'll also be advised to frequently "swirl" or 'tilt" the tank as the e-liquid falls in the tank, to keep those wicks wet at all times to prevent dry burnt hits.
