For some time many of us have been looking for an alternative new name for mods, because it is a low-rent name for the McClarens of the ecig world. It is a cheap trashy name for something that is often made over here and can be of the highest quality. These devices are not hacksawed-up flashlights any more and their name needs to show that.

People racked their brains but nothing good came up. Then one or two suppliers started to use the term APV, Advanced Personal Vaporizer, and it looks good. Several people have said it does the job for them, so we are going to move over to that term here.

You can expect to see more references to APV here from now on. The InfoPages has already changed over, and we will be changing forum titles from mod to APV. At first (for a long time) there will be dual use.

You can use it or not, as you wish of course. It's just a way to improve the image of the high-end models, as 'mod' is a cheap name for something that costs $250. Also we need to counter some of the mini cig-clone vendors who are saying that these models are not e-cigarettes - and the name helps them, as it sounds as if these units are home-made or bodged up in a garage workshop. Why help people who are attacking you.

At first it will sound really, really weird. Later on - not so much.

The personal vaporizer description is always more accepted when I'm out, so I agree it's time to make it consistent for both mainstream and advanced devices. Anything we can do to increase acceptance and adoption is a good thing! Maybe we won't have as many new members starting the "what's a mod?" threads.

I agree that APV would be more acceptable for advanced PVs.

Those that aren't familiar with the wide range of products available will be just as confused. Oh well.
We obviously can't rely on the media or infomercials to educate the population.

What sounds reasonable to me is the models that LOOK somewhat like a cigarette still be called E-CIG (a term easily recognized by those wanting to transition from cigarettes).
E-CIGAR, and E-PIPE for the devices that actually LOOK like their tobacco counterpart.

PV, seems like an acceptable generic term for everything else. With APV reserved for those with 'advanced' enhanced performance features (like a built-in MP3 player).

MOD, DIY-PV, APV-MOD,and soon APV-DIY-MOD :) applied to noncommercial PVs, no matter how well constructed or how advanced the design, to alert the buyer/user than it is not backed by a commercial manufacturer but by an individual. BOX-MOD, BOX-PV, and BOX-APV would follow the same naming conventions.

There will be 'CROSSOVER PVs' that don't quite fit in any category :)

For those that need derogatory terms to promote/differentiate types can still use Pipe-Bomb Mod, or even Trailer-Park Mod :)

APV= amateur production vaporizers (not because of lack of skill, but the lack of commercial interest/ motivation)
APV= advanced personal vaporizers (mods gone pro)
APV= angular personal vaporizers (non-tube designs)
APV= astro-prone vaporizers (non-EMSS compliant) :facepalm:
APV= anterior personal vaporizers (e-cigs, before mods)
APV= archetypical personal vaporizer (look-alikes)
APV= all purpose vaporizers (the next frontier)
