Glad to hear of your doctor's reaction!

I saw my doctor today for tonsillitis. I mentioned that they need to change me in their system as a non-smoker as I've switched to vaping. She said that I'm still classified as "trying to quit" and that I should get off the nicotine. I told her I had no intention to do so because I have ADD, can't take ADD meds, and that my ADD goes a bit nutty if I don't have the nicotine. She told me, "well, try quitting and see if the ADD straightens out in a few months." Um, really?! I was off nicotine for 4 1/2 months last spring and my ADD didn't go away. LOL.

Luckily my cardiologist didn't give me the same feedback. She was very happy to hear I had switched, even though I was getting the nicotine. Ah, well. :) You can't please 'em all, right? vape on!

I've fired doctors over much less than that (Yes FIRE... If I am paying them, then I consider them as being in my employ). I would say to ask your doctor nicely to do some research before condemning, and if they are still talking down about vaping... Time to kick em to the curb. Just because they are a doctor doesn't mean you should hold them in high regards.

Great thread everyone! I'm a physician and a vaper. I have been off cigarettes since August 17, 2012. Vaping helped me quit :) I was a pack a day smoker and have 1cig since then and that was on the night of my bachelor party.. I'll excuse myself there... I am trying to use vaping as cessation device and it's been working. My plan was to wean myself down to zero and I'm almost there. In the 6 months that I have been vaping I went from 18mg nic level to 6mg. I've been using 6mg for the past week and I plan on going down to 0 in the next few months. I smoked for over 20 years and I'm only in my mid 30s. I planned on a slow wean something that's know that would work for me. I show my Ego devive( I usually bring my provari and Ego to work)to patients all the time. Especially the ones who reek like stogies. I even got my staff to purchase their first kits to try to quit.. They see me vaping in the office all the time :) Nicotine has many side effects and as a physician I would encourage everyone to try to wean down and enjoy vaping those great flavors w/o the detrimental effects of nicotine.just take your time and make it happen. I am glad to hear there are other physicians that encourage and support you guys for getting off cigarettes. If there were more studies available I would even carry them in the office and promote it even more.
Just thought I'd share a little something!

Haven't seen my doctor yet, I have an appt in a couple of weeks. But when i went in for a blood pressure check today (it was great!) the nurse asked me how I was doing and I told her about vaping. She was very interested and asked a lot of questions. Very positive response from her and I hold most nurses' opinions in much higher regard than most doctors anyway!

I wish I could reply to everyone who's posted on here, because I'm delighted with the responses, but got pulled away with family Friday night stuff. YOU GUYS ARE TOTALLY AWESOME!

I'm glad to hear so many medical professionals are backing up vapers - I adore my doc, but I'm glad she's not the only one who's so open-minded and supportive. It's kind of nice to not be on the defensive anymore.

Hey rusty! That's awesome to hear! I actually know a doc who vapes and recommends to all his patients and a way to back off the analogs. He deffinetly doesn't say it's a cessation device but a great way to cut back and still get the nicotine.

I am a paramedic and I have talked to so many of my own patients about it. I was a pad smoker (bad habit I picked up in the military) and for the last few years I've been smoke free. Needless to say I come into contact with ALOT of people who smoke and are suffering with the after effects. I love when these patients ask me about vaping since my provari is usually chilling in my rig! Haha. Also our hospital here allows you to vape in your room. Pretty cool! Well the vaping part not the hospital part.

That's amazing - I had no idea that any hospital would allow vaping. And I also have to wonder how many people you've helped out when you explained your Provari to them. Kind of like saving their lives in more than one way, right?

I have seen both my internal medicine doctor and my pain specialist in the last several weeks and told both of them that I quit analogs about 5 weeks ago due to vaping, and even pulled my ego out of my pocket and showed it off lol. They were both very happy and supportive, especially when I said I had already gone down from 24mg on my first order to 18mg on my second order, which was only about 3 weeks after I started vaping, and am doing fine with the reduction in strength. They said keep up the good work, keep it steady and they would like for me to eventually get down to 0 which is my goal. Personally I would like to get to 0 then keep on vaping just for the flavors, because I enjoy it as a hobby, but if that just doesn't cut it for me I have no problem keeping it at the 6mg since that is such a low strength and it does seem to help my stress and anxiety levels. It is such a far cry better for me than the 2/3-1PAD I was smoking of PALL MALL Menthol 100's.

My parents and my 6 year old daughter were all asking me to quit and it was my daughter that got to me the most. I need to live to see her grow up and one day she asked me "Mommy, if you have that cigarette are you going to die?"
So, I quit. I will never touch another cigarette in my life.

I was having BP issues and had started smoking again thinking it might have been my vaping, turned out it wasn't. My doctor is the guy who tells you to quit in the not so PC way every time you see him. I started vaping again after a brief relapse once I knew it was safe and my next visit brought my PV with me.

The conversation kind of went with me explaining that all of the methods he recommends have never worked for me, and asking how many actually manage to quit using them. I showed him the setup and even demonstrated it for him in the office and told him how many success stories I have seen in person or read about on here using an electronic device. I gave him some business cards to various e-cig related organizations and local shops, he seemed pretty interested in doing his own research and possibly using it as a way to help his patients quit. I'm going to follow up next time with him and see if he has in fact recommended it and how it worked out. Luckily I explained giving them a Super Micro and garbage flavored carts will be just like prescribing 1/2 the effective dose of a medicine, and recommended Ego type starter kits.

My sister has been struggling with quitting cold turkey, and she told her doctor that she needs assistance. The doctor prescribed Xyban and a cessation course. I told her that I'm down to 3-4 cigarettes a day from a PAD+, and sometimes not even that much because I enjoy vaping more. I'm not sure she would be a candidate for vaping, because she has only the very beginnings of COPD - not enough to require an inhaler or anything, but somewhat detectable on an x-ray.

I'm the kind of person who comes up with ~a lot~ of harebrained ideas, so she listened politely while I went on and on about vaping, but I don't think she's even tempted to try it, which I think is a shame - she's quit before using sheer willpower, but I think she'd be okay if she could run to an e-cig during one of her weak moments, instead of buying a pack of cigarettes. Sometimes you just want a puff, you know? You don't want a whole pack or even a whole cigarette, for that matter.

When I told her about my doctor giving the go-ahead to my vaping, she seemed surprised. I hope she'll reconsider.

All of this info makes me feel very good about my move to vaping. My body already felt good about it but it's nice to mentally approve as well.

It does feel good to get approval. I think it's the first time in years I've had a doctor approve of much of anything I do, so it was great to hear that I'm doing something right for a change. :D

My doctor, an arthritis specialist, loves the fact that I have stopped smoking and started vaping. He asked me to demo it for him in the treatment room and approves of me vaping in his office. I live in the South and the hospital here allows vaping in the rooms. I am so glad there is an alternative to smoking the stinkies. I have not have a stinkie since I started vaping and am getting great feedback from family and friends. I smoked for over thirty years and tried everything under the sun to quit, even hypnosis, Chantix, gum......
Can't tell you how great it is to not smell like smoke anymore. I quit smoking on Thanksgiving. Hallelujah!
P.S. great thread
