I bought my very first RTA today always used the tanks and pre built coil's and wanted to try on my own. So I bought the Zeus RTA today and I love it it's so awesome. But what is happening when I was using my tank I would vape at 60 to 65 watt's and with this I cannot go a full pull then it will hit a dry hit. So I looked online and seen that everyone was saying that need to turn the wattage down and so I have mine down to 40 watt's. just wanted to check and see if that was something that was right. And also the other thing is I guess I will have to get use to going and not using this as much like I did the tank before I guess I wanted to check and see if that I'm doing everything right.

The wattage depends heavily on the coil you are using. If it has a lot of mass, you will need higher wattage to get it working at its best. Just start low and increase slowly until you get the vape your looking for. 40w on a smaller coil made with thinner guage wire can be very similar to 80w on a larger coil made with thicker gauge wire, so finding the sweet spot for your current coils is important and not just going off of what worked for other coils you have used before.

Dry hits can come from a number of things, like from too tight of wicking, too high of wattage, and improper wick job. Each wicking material can have some quirks to them that may cause dry hits as well (for example, some can be wicked semi loosely and be fine where others may need to be wicked tighter, or some may not work well with long tails where others it may not matter as much). Best way to fix it is to play around with it and experiment with a few different techniques and see what works best for you. If you get dry hits, try less wicking material, if leaking occurs more wick will likely be needed. Some people like tight wicks in the coil, but thin out the tails. There is an art to wicking, but with a little experimenting you will get the hang of it and find what works for you.

Early this year I bought an Aromamizer plus rta. I am an experienced rda user and wrap my coils and wick myself for a couple years now. The first three builds I put in it were nice and had worked well on drippers and a mage rta I had, but had no flavor and i was getting dry hits occasionally. Got some advice and started thinning out the ends of cotton sticking out of the coil. This let more juice get to the coil itself, eliminated the dry hits and improved flavor.
As far as wattage, that can vary quite a bit from one atomizer to the next with the same exact coils... Start lower than you think you should and increase it every couple puffs until you don't like it. Higher wattage, more heat, needs more airflow.
Out of curiosity, what coil(s) are you using?

PG/VG mix can affect the wicking also. Higher VG without a thinner (PG, DW) may not wick properly.

Also, you wicking material is important. I use Rayon and rarely have wicking issues (dry hits) and I pack the coil tightly on a 2.5 ID fused clapton at .33 ohms, set to 50 to 52 watts.

It's a balancing act. The density of the wicking, airflow, wattage and juice viscosity (PG/VG ratio) are all pertinent variables in creating a successful vape.
Try loosening the wicking or using a higher PG content in your juice.

I have the Zeus. I make my coils at around .5 to .6 ohms and I vape at between 20-25 watts. Now I admit to being a bit of a wuss cause I never vape at 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 watts. Since you're just starting out with building it will take some trial and error to find your sweet spot.

Might like to read:
Efficiency. Thinner wire and higher resistance VS thick wire and lower resistance
As been said before, the wattage that works for me is usually a few watts over the lowest watt setting (where i can barely see the vape cloud on the exhale). Lower watt settings lessen the chance of burning the liquid/wick (dry hits) and generates my perceived best flavor.
After I get my Atty (coil and chamber heat up) going for awhile, I will often times turn the power down or up a few tenths of a watt or so to see if I can taste more flavor. I'm often surprised at how much better tasting the vape can be by adjusting the vape temp/wattage.

Wattage (for me) is honestly not the hugest factor in dry hits in an RTA, LOL, I am a totally wattage weenie, though. 9 times out of 10, it is TOO much wick in the tails. If I don't thin it well, and etc., I don't get the capillary action I need, and I'll get "dry spots" in the tail. Fairly full in the coil is Just Fine but too thick tails are my enemy. And yes, airflow and coil type totally matter, and juice matters, but I have been able to wick RTAs at super close to max VG (I am PG sensitive) without incident. I find things even easier now that I use a PG variant, but at the moment I have a Siren V2 that is giving me hassles at an all powerful 9.5 watts. I know it's my tails. My airflow is wide open, my liquid is close to 50/50.

It's my tails, I've set it aside to deal with later.

You don't mention the wire gauge or coil parameters or whether you wrapped them yourself or used pre-wrapped and cut coils.

What kind of wire (stainless, kanthal, nichrome, etc)?

What gauge is the wire?

Single, Clapton, twisted, fused?

What inside diameter is the coil?

How many wraps are there?
