Sometime it just happens. I had that experience with the very popular Kayfun lite. Its so simple, I watched videos. It even came built for me as it was a gift.
The KFL and me just never got along. Maybe I happened to get a bad one? It was always 50/50. One build would give me dry hits constantly unless I gave it a prime puff or it would leak all over and gurgle.
I tried everything in all the threads ( there were/ are lots of them) I had experience with a few RTAs. My all time favorite was the GG Odysseus and much more complicated to build, but never had problems from day one.
I gave up.... Take a rest .... watch a few how to's on YouTube.
One question.... A lot of these new subtanks are geared for thicker liquids. Big cloud people usually use all VG for the added density. If your liquid is thinner you might need to adjust the wick size so it doesnt flow so fast. Its hard sometimes to get the right amount of wick material. If you use too much dry hits, if not enough wick it will burn and taste bad too because you end up with spaces between the coils and you end up vaping dry coils.
I gave my KFL a real long rest and built it again, and for the first few tanks it was great, I was in love. So much so I bought a second one... But dang it if it didnt start happening again. SOld them.
I hope it works out for you, but maybe its just not a good match.
