I started using a SJMY silicone bottle in my VT Inbox yesterday. By the third bottle the flavor was horrendous! I was immediately transported back to a summer day in 1972, when I lit my Star Trek Enterprise model of fire. The smell and taste of styrene plastic stuck with me for days. The juice I'm using is a standard RY4 @ 5mg nicotine. If anyone else has experienced this, please share your thoughts. I had a slight issue with the hard plastic OEM bottles, but nothing like this.

Use salt & pepper when you eat them. I also find a good red wine pairs nicely.

Seriously though, no haven't had any issues with the Lost Vape, Vandy Vape, or dotmod bottles I have. Not saying it's not possible, just hasn't happened to me.

Edit: There are hcigar VT silicone bottles now. Ibe done the same mod you did, found it a pain. Just an FYI in case you weren't aware. They're pricy.

That taste is payback for burning your model of the Enterprise.
I would think the how many hundred dollars would he be able to sell that model kit today for if he hadn’t burned it would be payment, but karma is a tricky thing.

I boiled all of the silicone bottles that I ordered... 5 x Therion + 2 x VT Inbox. I boiled them in vinegar water, rinsed, boiled in water with bicarb, rinsed, washed in soap and water, then a final rinse. Dig this... All of the bottles smell identical, except for the one used with the VT Inbox. After all this, it still as a wonderful RY4 + hazelnut/caramel notes!

What this proves, is that the silicone used to make these bottles will not resist permeation. Smelling or tasting equals the same thing... Consumption. It's like a fart... If you can smell a fart, you are literally inhaling particular feces matter. If you can taste a fart, you're eating particulate feces matter. No difference here... Silicone smell/taste means you're consuming particulate silicone matter.

No feces.

A typical fart is composed of about 59 percent nitrogen, 21 percent hydrogen, 9 percent carbon dioxide, 7 percent methane and 4 percent oxygen. Only about one percent of a fart contains hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans, which contain sulfur, and the sulfur is what makes farts stink.

I'm adding this because it needs to be said.

If you can taste a fart, you need to back up. I'm 47 going on 48, and have never tasted a fart.

I'm quite proud of that.

I've also never tasted silicone from my bottles.

Bottom-line is this... High quality food grade silicone (once sterilized) should have no smell! Even after cleaning the bottles, there is a definite chemical smell present. I'm going to let them air-out for a few days, and maybe that will take care of it. If I experience the plastic taste after that, into the trash they go.

Health tip: If your toothbrush is exposed vs enclosed in a cabinet or case, you're brushing your teeth with feces.

Wish I didn't click that link.

My toothbrush stays in a case in my room. I take it to the bathroom to brush.

Here on food grade silicone

What is Silicone and is it Toxic? | The Soft Landing®
Silicone has quickly become a household name in the fall-out of toxic plastics. Its starring role begins right away as we introduce it to our babies from the day they're born. It's been touted as inert and versatile, but just what is silicone and is it toxic?

We decided to give it a thorough background check. In the end, our research leads us to believe that food grade silicone used outside the body for food contact is chemically inert, stable, won’t leach into food, or off-gas. And Health Canada confirms what we’ve found: silicone does not react with food or drinks or produce any hazardous fumes.
  • Be sure to choose dishes made from 100% food grade silicone. Fillers can compromise the quality and durability of silicone.
  • Confirm that all colorants used are not BPA-based and that lead testing has been done, especially for brightly colored products.
  • Don’t be fooled by thermoplasticized rubber (TPR) dishes. They look and feel much the same, but TPR isn’t as durable and doesn’t tolerate high heat like silicone does. Products like these measuring cups made from TPR often have a rigid plastic skeleton and may warp when exposed to heat.
  • Be aware that phosphate-free dishwashing detergents may cause silicone dishes to end up with water spots or hold onto certain smells/tastes. It’s no big deal, just add some white vinegar or a non-toxic rinse aid like Ecover to your wash cycle.

I've gone through two bottles of liquid since washing the bottles, and the taste is fine. I'll let it sit overnight and continue to use tomorrow. The exterior of the bottles smell quite good actually. They have a sort-of strawberry odor to them. I think the odd odor is coming from the stainless steel collar, not the silicone. As long as I don't get the plastic taste in the vapor, I'll be good to go.
