I just started the whole DIY juice thing, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've been experimenting with different ratios and percentages, but I really don't want to drain all my supplies through trial and error. I guess that's just something that's going to happen...

My total flavor percentage has been around 15%, but I'm considering going higher to about 20-25%. I'm curious, what is your total flavor percentage when all is said and done? I'm sure this varies depending on what you make (tobacco, fruit, etc.), so if that is the case please tell me the differences!

edit: I am currently using TFA

Everyone has a different view on this. You can take the same exact flavor and everyone you ask will give you a different percentage they use. Some like stronger flavors than others so you will find lots of differences. It also depends on which flavors you are using. I have some TFA that I use 15-20% but then I have some Inawera flavors that only need a few drops per 10ml. Lots of variables.

Good luck and continue to have fun with it.

For TFA I have used as little as 4% (Black Honey Tobacco) to as high as 20-21% for some complex recipes (6-7 ingredients). As LD says tastes vary, some people like stronger flavors, some weaker (personal taste) and add that to the fact that some flavors are quite a bit stronger than others, you will get a wide range of percentages. Good luck in your DIY! :vapor:

Steve

yeah my concern is that I went too high because I heard that going too high can produce muted flavor or harsh chemically flavors. but theres no way that a total of 15% is high enough for that to happen right? that sounds crazy to me... I think I probably accidentally threw in too much nic on this last batch.

I guess I'll just have to keep playing with it... at least I picked up an Octopus RDA today to taste my blends... using a ProTank to sample is a huge pain!

One bit of advice- mix your test batches with no nic. That way, if the juice is no good you haven't wasted the most expensive ingredient. :) I feel that it gives me a little more room to adjust the flavor without the nic as well.

Take good notes too. There is nothing worse than finding your perfect juice only to figure out that you can't duplicate it!

TFA flavors I usually use at 5-10%, but they are a bit hit-and-miss for my tastes.

Lorann I usually like, and at 5-10%.

Capellas almost always 10%.

A quick experiment to see if you may have overflavored is to take a ml of your mix and mix it with a ml of PG/VG and try it
(Or a 1/2ml of each). That's what I would do if I was unsure. Good luck!

I have been mixing cigar / tobacco flavored juice.

The total flavoring that I have been using is 17% of the total volume of the finished juice ... Then add another 2% of Ethyl Maltol ... So, I guess you could say it's then 19%

Of the 50ml of finished juice, 9.5ml of it would be some sort of flavoring ... the rest (40.5ml) is unflavored Nicotine PG and Glycerin mix.

I personally look at the % charge of the TFA but normally start a bit lower and work my way up to what I am looking for. So far I have been luck and only had to toss one that I just couldn't vape. It is a lot of fun playing around with the flavors. Hope you have as much fun as I do.

I've gotten so I just love the gourmet and super concentrated flavors from Vaping Zone. The are a bunch stronger so you use just a tiny bit and to me it seems more economical if you know what I mean. Been really pleased with all the flavors I have tried.

Happy mixing. :)

so you're saying take 1ml of my flavor(s) and mix it with 1ml pg/vg? wouldn't that make the flavoring 50% of the total? or make the mix as usual including pg/vg and add 1ml pg/vg after the taste test?

Take the juice that you have mixed that you think you may have added too much flavor, take 1 ml of that juice and add 1 ml of PG or VG. You will be cutting the % of flavoring in half. (if it was 20% it is now 10%) Then you can tell if the first batch had too much flavoring.

Thanks Tidegirl, that's exactly what I meant. :)
