i started out taking kinda fast drags that wan't working for me. so now i take slow long drags. i'm curious about what you guys do
5 secs for me, it varies I would imagine, when I first started I tried to treat ecigs like cigs, didn't work out.
Think of it like a slightly longer drag then a reg cig.
Long slow drag, 5-7 seconds for the most part. Sometimes I'll pull it into my mouth first (then possibility of smoke rings / french inhale haha) or just direct to my lungs, varies pretty much randomly, whatever I'm feeling per puff.
i tried direct inhale to the lungs, didn't work lol i had a coughing fit lol
I try to pull at the rate the vapor is being produced. Not faster not slower. This of course will vary depending on juice delivery systems e.g. attys, cartos, clearos etc.
Give it a little more time. Your lungs may still be adjusting to the vape rather than the smoke.
I had the same problem when I first tried direct, but now it's no prob.
"Pull" meaning, drag or shall I say "suck". It is not exactly the same as inhaling.
it's not that bad inhaling, it's the exhale that makes me cough. what will taking a slow long drag and than holding it in do?
What I noticed was the difference in the amount of vapor, which seems to be much more when directly inhaling.
It never seemed to be the inhale that was irritating, but - like you said - the exhale, which seemed very irritating.
That irritation has since gone away and I don't have any problems with the direct method now.
When I hold the vapor in longer, it seems to absorb and dissipate causing the exhale to be much lighter with much less visible vapor. However, in the beginning, it was just as irritating.
Just my observations, more experienced members may be able to elaborate further.
I'm experimenting with direct-inhaling and it's working well for me, giving better taste and seemingly more vapor.
The first time I tried it however, was about a month after getting my first ecig. I was on the freeway, trying to get some good vapor and throat hit out of my little 510 with its standard atomizer and cart full of JC Tennessee Cured. I thought, some of this vapor must be condensing inside my mouth so I'm not inhaling all of it. Well, I'll try inhaling straight into my lungs...
OMG! Harsh:Burnain
HACK! HACK! HACK!
HACK! HACK! HACK!
Probably should have pulled over at that point, but couldn't see clearly through the tears in my eyes. Just held the car straight until my vision cleared. Whew! "I'm never gonna do that again!"
But now I am. The difference is, now I hold my lips loosely around the drip tip and take in air along with the vapor. This dilutes the incoming hit enough to prevent harshness.
Why direct-inhale? The taste is better, at least with the tobacco liquids. Exhaling though my nose, I can sense more of the vapor's aroma and detect elements that are faint or absent when mouth-inhaling. It gives an added dimension to the taste and provides more satisfaction.
So give it a cautious try, you might enjoy it.
Just not while you're driving.
