I own a variable voltage PV, which is a Lava Tube/Torpedo VV, but I ordered it while I was still waiting for my 1st e-cig to get there, because I had started to read a few negative reviews about the Ego-T I was waiting for, so I ordered the Torpedo VVV. But since I was sooo new to vaping, I also ordered low resistance cartos and a low resistance dual coil 6ml tank to go with the Torpedo, then I figured out those low resistance attys and cartos werent good for higher voltages, and the 6ml tank is terrible because it completely mutes the flavor of whatever I vape!

So I still dont really have the right hardware to support my Torpedo at this point, although I am still waiting on a Vivi Nova with a couple higher resistance coils(2.4 and 2.8ohm), and I'd like to try higher voltages with those higher resistance coils, and I need to get another higher resistance carto or atty with maybe 3.0 ohms of resistance.

But I am wondering what the advantages are going to be with higher voltage vaping? I assumed that it meant bigger hits, less hard sucking on lower voltage devices to get a decent sized hit, etc. Is that accurate? Is that why people switch to higher voltage or variable voltage devices, for better hits etc.?

What should I expect from my higher voltage pv once I get higher resistance cartos, coils, etc?

The biggest advantage to what you are using is that you can turn the voltage down.

The end product of Ohms Law is "power" (measured in Watts). You will find that you like vaping at a somewhat specific power level. Once you know what that power level is, you can simply plug that wattage along with the resistance of the heads you use into this Ohm's Law Calculator , and it will tell you the proper voltage to use.

However the type of head you are using needs to be factored in. You will find that top coils (like what are in the newer clearos) run hotter than bottom coils (like cartomizers), so you will want a lower wattage level with top coil heads.

thanks for posting that Ohm's Law Calculator! So cool!

also, higher amps which is achieved by higher volts and the same watts, theoretically leads to better battery life.

for example, 6 volts with 4 ohms is roughly the same watts as 3.7 volts at 1.5 ohms, but because the amperage drain is lower on 6 volts with 4 ohms, you will have longer battery life.

I think the Big Advantage is you can turn Up the Voltage. Or you can turn it Down. That and the Voltage you select Stays the Same.

Some of e-Liquids taste best at 3.6 volts. Some Taste best at 4.2 volts. And they Both Taste Best when the Voltage Doesn't fall off as the Battery Drains.

also, higher amps which is achieved by higher volts and the same watts, theoretically leads to better battery life.

for example, 6 volts with 4 ohms is roughly the same watts as 3.7 volts at 1.5 ohms, but because the amperage drain is lower on 6 volts with 4 ohms, you will have longer battery life.

    +1, I love my vv

Variable voltage will simply allow you to play around with power metrics.

You seem like a relatively new vaper. And you seem to be making a lot of purchases and trying to try out everything. As someone who's done all that, I'd like to caution you to slow down a bit, lol. I mean hey it's your money, but the best thing you can do for yourself at this point is get knowledge and make a particular device work for you. An ego can be used very cheaply. Figure out cartomizer refilling, cleaning, etc., and in a few weeks or months once you have a solid knowledge base, then jump into vv.

You mean lower amps leads to better battery life.
    6 volts with 4 ohms = 9 watts @ 1.5 amps
    3.7 volts at 1.5 ohms = 9 watts @ 2.5 amps

The biggest advantage with the VV I found was with dripping. You can get a massive hit with an atty set with higher voltage. Some flavors taste better at certain voltage and being able to regulate that is what is very nice. I love using a 3.5 atty with the volts at 4.8 or so and the vapor is off the charts! I also ordered a VV right away when I started vaping for the stronger hit at times when the urge to smoke was very bad. It worked wonders!
