Weird tasting atomizers?

Howdy, I'm new here, and it's good to be here!

With that said, I'm having a bit of a problem, and I'm trying not to go buy a pack because of it.

I ordered three new 302 atomizers since I only had one, I didn't want it to go out and be left fighting to not buy a pack. It's ironic, because now I'm in that situation from buying the new ones, lol.

I got my atomizers and decided to try one. I put it in, refilled my liquid, dropped a couple drops straight onto the wick, and upon inhaling I tasted a pretty foul taste. I don't know how to describe it, but it isn't good. It overpowers the flavors of every liquid I've tried.

I read it may be the primer they use at the factory and that boiling would solve the issue. I boiled all my atomizers for five minutes, let them cool, blew through them and rinsed thoroughly.

The taste persists. And the weirdest part is after I tried the new atomizers, my original atomizer began tasting the same. Even after boiling, the original still tastes weird, just like the new ones.

I'm a bit upset that this has happened. The taste is bearable to the point that I can get my nicotine in, but the flavor completely bums me out.

What can I do, and why do they taste so foul?

I'll let more experienced vapers advice about getting rid of the taste. But I can tell you those attys need minimum 24 hrs. of air drying, thread side up.

I will also offer up menthol, and mint based juices will usually clear out lasting flavors still on the atty.

New atomizers need to be primed and broken in first.

To quote Dave P:

Before I even try a new atty, I blow it out by blowing through the threaded end until nothing more drips onto the towel. The primer is a clear liquid that keeps down oxidation on the atty parts during storage and shipment. You have to get that out and re-prime the atty with two or three drops of E-juice.

Drip a couple of drops, try it, add another... If you flood it, unscrew it and blow through the threaded side onto a paper towel. After you blow out a drop or two on the towel, put it back together and try it. Priming is an art mastered quickly and you'll figure it out after a couple of tries.

Make sure your cart filler ( the cotton looking polyfill on the end) is touching the atty bridge (the metal mesh loop in the atty). You should see a dent in the filler when you pull the cart out and look at the filler. You might have to pull it out close to the end of the cart to make contact.

When a particularly rough flavor gets stuck in the atty (tried one cola flavor that would not go away) I have found putting a bit of unflavored Vegetable Glycerin on the atomizer does wonders for clearing it out. You can find that at whole foods, some cvs pharmacies, and some grocery stores. just take a bit and thin it with water to the thickness of your e-liquid. (it comes pretty thick. you can use it undiluted, but its easier to handle at the thinner consistency)

Other people recommend the cleaning and the dry burns and such, but more often then not i have ended up killing attys like that.

Additionally, on a fresh atty with primer and all it is possible to get rid of the primer flavor completely by removing the wick strands. This is only something to do if you are dripping only, it will make the cartridges fail to work. Perhaps there is something on the wick which is behaving oddly, though you mentioned it seeming to spread to the other atty.

Based on the spread, I would assume it is the liquid you are using. Some people especially early on have off days, where flavors all seem to go to heck. If you have one, try swapping out to another flavor for a while, then come back to this one.

I did all of the suggested steps, and the flavor did get a little better. Now though, the flavor gets bad again after only a few puffs on fresh liquid.

Also, I have tried almost every flavor I have. The stronger the flavor, the less of a bad taste I get. My strongest is French Toast and it's almost bearable. I've tried both of my tobacco flavors, French Toast, Cheesecake, Peanut Butter and Snickerdoodle. I always made sure to clean the cart filler well, and to clear the atty as much as possible before filling.

Maybe I'm over thinking and this will go away with time. But what concerns me is I'm using my original atomizer, which has always worked and tasted fine. I don't understand how the new atomizers 'contaminated' the old one.

Any other ideas I could try?

Are you taking slow drags and letting the atty cool a tiny bit between drags? Maybe you are taking drags too quickly for the cartridge to properly wick onto the atty so you are getting an empty atty taste? Try putting a drop or two of juice straight on the atty, does that still taste horrible?

Interesting. I don't know much about the 302 atty let me say upfront.
OK so - have you tried an ejuice from a different vendor - from the names of the ones you listed it seems they all from the same vendor (a good vendor though I should add).
I'm wondering if something has happened to the liquids themselves as this has happened in your old 'good 'ole' atty.

Are you using the same cart? I was just doing some reading here yesterday about attys, and someone mentioned that the nasty taste can get into the air flow vents on the side of the cart...and make everything taste nasty. You can try a new cart or clean out the one you were using....

I'm really new to 510s though, just got mine, which is why I was reading like crazy yesterday trying to figure the thing out lol

And yes, I have liquids from two vendors. ElectroNicStix and VaporBomb, and both vendors give me the same issue, leading me to believe it's hardware related.

I will try cleaning the cart out and see if that helps.

If you have been dripping, then obviously the problem is the attie or the juice.

you can find out if it is the juice by dripping straight VG if you have it.
If the bad taste doesn't change,
You may want to clean your atties with hot water and some kind of dispersant, dish liquid will work. I let mine sit today for 5 minutes, swishing it around. Then rinse well. dry overnight if you can.

Did you get enough juice down into the atomizer AFTER cleaning it?

In my experience, a completely clean atomizer can take around 6 or 7 drops of juice, and needs at least 5 drops of juice to get ready for action. For comparison, an atomizer I have been vaping on that starts to get that burnt taste needs another 2 or 3 drops only. Any more than that and you could flood it.

The thing is, there is a large mesh wrap that surrounds the coil pot under the bridge. It holds a lot of juice, and needs to get filled up for the atomizer to work properly and to avoid the burnt taste.

EDIT: Your mileage may vary, depending on the size of the drops from your dropper bottle.

I got the bad taste out of the old, good atomizer. MMmmm!!! I have been letting the new ones sit thread side up since about 5pm yesterday. I plan on trying them again here in a little bit.

If it tastes kind of like you lit the wrong end of a cigarette, it's probably the primer. I wasn't aware about the primer and used both my attys without blowing them out. Once you do that, boiling in water may not be enough. I boiled mine in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) (I brought them to a boil several times in the microwave, then let them cool in the microwave to avoid flammable vapors), rinsed with water and let them dry overnight. The next day, one was fine and the other had a lingering foul taste. After a little bit of use it was much better.

I`m thinking that your old atty just has the "used" broken in taste to it. Now, you cleaned them all, and forgot how the old one tasted when you 1st used it. For me a clean atty takes a little while to taste and perform the way I`m used to.
