Okay, so it has been less than 72 hours since I received and started using my VTR, and now I am having a problem that makes it unusable. There seems to be a problem with the wheel/dial that the tank sits on (NOT the VV/VW adjusting dial on top). After installing a tank, the ohm meter does not properly detect the coil on ANY of my tanks. I use 2.2 ohm coils pretty exclusively and yet the VTR is detecting them at many different readings. I get 2.3, 2.4, 2.8, 3.3, 3.6, up to and as high as 4.8! This value does change by spinning the little wheel with the tank on it, every time I spin the wheel I get a different reading. I have tried new coils in several tanks, and I have now tried with every tank I own, all to no avail. I have contacted the vendor and they are unaware of any problem like this, they are looking into it.

Sadly the VTR is not even usable at this point. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you fix it?

I'm starting to think I should have just bought another eVic! Guess what my next post is gonna be about! :)

I did contact the vendor, but so far no love. They pointed me at a thread for cleaning the contacts under that ring, but that didn't help at all. I sure hope there is a fix for the problem, but if not, I WILL be replacing it with something reliable, possibly another eVic and possibly something else, not sure yet.

All I know right now is that I'm NOT happy about it! Vaping is the only thing that stands between me and cigarettes, I can't afford to have gear that doesn't work properly!!!

Hey OP. There is a thread here (I'd have to look for it) with several people having your problem. There is not a fix for it that's been shared & those that I've read about with the problem have had to stop using the vw setting & only use vv. Even though the ohms are screwed up the vv will still work. But if you use the vw it's obviously going to be a risk since it could kill your atty if it reads it wrong & adjusts for that ohm.

There have been posters in other vaping forums talking about the same exact problem so apparently there are a lot of units with this issue. Personally I'd send the unit back if you can unless you don't mind not have correct ohms readings & using the vw.

here's a link to the VTR thread. There might be more info on the problem here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/variable-voltage-apv-discussion/480134-itaste-vtr-5.html

Thanks Zealous, that is the conclusion I am coming to as well. The vendor pointed me at that thread (at least I think its the same one). Since I do use VW almost exclusively, I think I am going to reach out to the vendor and try a return. Can you point me at any of those other forums? I may need ammunition for returning this, it's from a vendor I have never used before, and I'm not sure how good the customer support is yet. Looks okay so far, but you just never know.

I hate to throw grease on a fire but by any chance did you purchase your VTR from HDV?

I can't post other forums' links here (I think it's against the rules). But if you google you should be able to find it. The thread I read was a coop thread & I'm not sure how many people got VTRs in that one but at least 5 of them had the same problem with their units when they got them. If I run across the thread I'll pm you.

I've been hunting for info like this since I ran across the first comment in the thread I linked you above. I was on the verge of buying one of these but after finding that comment I got worried the problem might be more common than just 1 or 2 devices. So I didn't end up getting it as a result of searching around. Really too bad though cuz I like the device a lot in theory. But not with that problem.

Who'd you get it from?

edit: oh, if you're looking for the link to the thread in this forum I posted it in my original comment

ScandaLex, no not from HDV.

Zealous, I'd rather not name names yet, giving them a chance to work this. If you are really interested, I think I might have mentioned them at order time though ... I don't remember. It was a vendor someone else pointed out in their thread. I was talking about link to the other forum, I think I have already found the one here. If you do have it, and don't mind PM'ing me with it, that would be awesome! I'm at work and won't have a lot of time to go looking until much later today.

I guess I should have looked harder before buying this thing for problems. I did do some searching but apparently not enough!

Now that I know where to look, it appears that I also have the bad button problem too. Holding it close to my ear I can hear the button buzzing when I fire it. Of course, while trying to find info, I completely blew out a coil when it went to 4.8 ohms on my 2.2 ohm coil ... GRRRRRR really unhappy with it now!

Vendor is non-responsive so far, but it just could be that I'm not patient enough. Trying to give them time to work it out, not sure how much longer I am going to last though!

I'm sorry you are having problems :(

FWIW, mine has the rattlesnake/buzzing noise, but it is VERY faint and doesn't bother me. In fact, the sound of my Protanks during a vape completely masks the sound, and I can only hear it using the 30s.....

You make want to only use your VTR on volts setting until you find a solution....

Good luck!!!

Thanks pcrdude, no VW is a deal breaker for me. I will leave it sitting while I try to get this resolved through the vendor. I could probably live with rattlesnake buzz if that were the only problem, but with the loss of VW, not going to happen! This thing is BRAND new, it should not be doing either of these things. Maybe if it had worn out over 10 or 12 months I wouldn't be so upset about it.

Sigh ... still waiting to hear back from the vendor.

Don't be too hard on yourself about not searching hard enough. It's not easy to find info sometimes. The only reason I knew about the thread here was cuz I have been stalking the forum watching for any new info about that particular item. Not everyone has time for that kind of stuff lol.

Yeah, but it's hard not to be hard on myself. I research EVERYTHING. I don't have $$ to waste, so I take extra time reading and researching to make sure I am buying what I want and I generally stay away from products with known problems ... :(

To be honest if you look for problems on the Internet you would never use any vendor or buy any product.

I would get an RMA from the vendor as soon as possible and get a new one shipped out to you.

I hope mine is OK, it's due in this week.

Too funny, but sadly very, very true! I can't get an RMA if I can't reach them! I am trying though.
